Psychic Enchantress
44. Summoned

Mason’s POV

With Shira dead and Jake missing, everybody went into depress mode. Chloe would start to cry out of the blue and Theo would comfort her. Cynthia as usual, kept her emotions on the low but Evan seemed to know that she too was hurting so he was always there to comfort her. They’d been close to Shira since last year when we had the movie night. Its like Shira became Chloe’s second sister so I knew her death would affect Chloe to the max.

I was of course keeping my emotions hidden. I really don’t want anyone pitying me. I wasn’t close to Shira but I cared about her because she was Xayla’s best friend. Now that she’s dead, I don’t know how Xayla’s going to handle it.

“Do you think Xayla knows Shira is dead?” I asked her grandmother.

We were in the basement setting up the area for the arrival of Davilla. Kalina had a vision that she would be coming to the house.

“Yes she does. She sees everything. That’s why we need her here so we can talk to her.” Kalina answered with a polite smile.

Its 8:00pm on a Saturday and no sign of Davilla. Gran had made this potion so she could knock out Davilla and speak to Xayla instead. I really hope it works.

“Is Jake still alive?” I questioned, a bit nervous about the answer that I’ll receive. Jake and I have had our ups and downs but he’s been like a brother to me for so long, I can’t imagine my life without him in it.

“Davilla seemed to like him so I doubt she’s going to kill him. What she wants from him is for him to become her servant. From what I’ve heard, Jake has a good heart so I don’t think he’ll fall at her feet. After all, she killed his girlfriend.” Kalina explained to me. Her eyes holding a look of sympathy.

“Hmm” I hummed in response.

I’m really getting tired of this Davilla thing. Both mentally and physically. I’ve had many nightmares about Davilla and she taking over Xayla’s body over and over again. I feel so powerless knowing there’s nothing I can do to help. I was suppose to be there for her. I was suppose to protect her from everything. Now there’s a possibility that I will never see her again.

“Mason?” I heard some calling me but I was too occupied with my thoughts about Xayla that I couldn’t bother to answer them.

I’m absolutely drained right now. I feel like i’m reliving my mother’s death. Its not like Xayla is dead but from what I saw and heard, she’s close to it and I can’t lose her. I’m really worried that I might fall into a deep depression. I would have to admit myself into a mental asylum because i’m afraid I might hurt myself.

Xayla, please come back to me. I can’t live without you.

“Mason?” The person hollered. I snapped my head around to to the sound of the voice and I saw Kalina with a tense posture at the top of the stairs.

I stood up balling my both my hands in a fist.

“She’s here.”

~~~
The haunted witch threw Kalina across the living room and knocked her out before turning to me.
“Missed me?” Davilla grinned.
“Where’s Jake!” My voice boomed.
We were currently standing in the hall way that led to the basement. I just had to lure her there where Xayla’s grandmother was, with the potion.
Her grin disappeared immediately. “You didn’t answer me.”
She glided the short distance between us and stood in front of me. She looked even more haunted than before.
“Did you miss me!?” Her echoed.
I wince at how loud she was. “I do miss you.” I answered truthfully. I missed seeing Xayla’s face even though she didn’t look like herself.
Davilla smiled at me. “Its good to hear, but i’m afraid i’m going to have to kill you.”
I took two immediate steps back to where the basement’s door was and she followed me, gliding closer to me.
“Nooo!” Davilla screamed but her voice didn’t sound as evil. It sounded innocent. It sounded like Xayla’s.
“Xayla?” I asked hopeful.
“Shut up Lil girl.” Davilla grumbled. Its like she was talking to herself. It was creepy.
While she was distracted I took two more steps back towards the door. Just one more step and I’ll be inside.
Davilla whipped her head in my direction in control of her body again. Its comforting to know that Xayla was still in there even after all that.
“Now I’m really going to kill you. I was just joking before but Xayla here annoyed me and gave me a headache. I hate having headaches. So now you die!” She screamed before lunging at me.
I took another step back and opened the door, stepping aside so she fell to the ground instead of on me.
She rolled down the twelve layers of stairs.
I rushed down the steps following her. She tried getting up but it was a struggle. That’s when Xayla’s grandmother appeared with the tube that held black liquid, in her hand.
“In a deep sleep ye shall be, remembering not what I hide from thee. Magic work let this be, Let this spell work for me.” She chanted pouring the black liquid in the air, holding it there with telekinetic energy. She then guided it to where Davilla was, who was almost on her feet. The black liquid filled her nostrils, eyes and mouth. Gran dropped her hand and so did Davilla. She fell to the ground, falling into a deep sleep.
I walked over cautiously to where Davilla layed. Yup. Definitely asleep. “What next?”
“Lift her up and use the chains I have to retain her in the chair.” Gran ordered.
I did as told and I felt my heart rate increase. Probably because I finally had Xayla in my arms again. Even though she’s not conscious and not in her right mind. It felt right though.
I tied the chains around her multiple times then securing it with a lock.
“Hey did you trap Davilla?” I heard Kalina ask from the top of the stairs.
“Yes she is restrained.” Xayla’s grandmother answered, while gazing into a thick old looking book. “Will you get down here.”
“Oh.” Kalina came walking down with her hand to the back of her head. Probably rubbing the spot that got hit by the window frame.
I was preoccupied looking at Xayla’s body in a deep slumber. After three agonizing months, we finally caught her. I’m happy about that but I just wanted to get rid of Davilla so that Xayla can look like herself again and come back to me.
I stooped down to face her hanging head. “Xayla, if you can hear me, just know that we’re going to help you get out of there and I...love you.” I whispered. I looked at her with hopeful eyes waiting for a response but then I remembered that her body is in a deep slumber. I sighed and got up, walking over to where her grandmother stood with book in her hand.
“So what’s next?” I asked the question again.
“I’m going to cast a summoning spell to summon Xayla so that I can talk to her about defeating Davilla.” She looked up at me. “Everything’s going to be okay child. I know you love my granddaughter genuinely and that’s why I allowed you being here all this time to help.”
I gave a slight sad nod.
“And after all of this is over, you need to sleep. I can see the bags under your eyes.” Kalina added, staring over at me.
I chuckled a bit at that. Sleep. Yeah right. I won’t be doing much sleep. When Xayla’s back, I’ll keep my eyes on her 24/7.
“Xayla won’t like that and you know.” Kalina read my mind and replied.
“Yeah” I muttered. “Worth the try.” I gave a small smile.
“Okay so I’ve found the perfect spell to cast.” Xayla’s grandmother announced, before walking over to where Xayla’s body sat. I followed her but I kept a distance giving her space to do her magic.
She closed her eyes, took a deep breath in and exhaled.
“Guardians of the Spirit realm, hear and guide my plea.
When the witching hour rings true, bring my loved one, Xayla to me.
Other souls who hear my call are not welcome in this place.
Only the one known as Xayla may enter sacred space.”
I looked at Xayla for any response but nothing. I turn my gaze to her grandmother and her eyes remained close. I looked at Kalina behind me for a clue as to if it was working or not.
She mouthed wait to me.
I looked back at Xayla’s grandmother and her eyes were open. She was looking at something to where Xayla’s body was.
I turned my gaze there and I saw a ghostly figure standing behind Xayla’s body.
That beautiful tiny ghostly figure, I could recognize anywhere I go.
“Hi.” Xayla smiled, a sad smile.
