Pyre Academy had finally reopened after the recent holidays. Ashe had been moved ahead a year, since she had been moved back in Wynd Academy. Ariel was a final year student and would be working out in the field more often. Dex and Roisin were now second year students.

The bell rang to signal the end of the first day, and Roisin and Dex exited class.

"I couldn't concentrate on a thing in there, I'm so used to being on edge" Dex sighed, leaning against the wall in the corridor. Roisin stood in front of him and rubbed his arms.

"We'll get used to it" Roisin smiled.

A tall brutish looking boy marched over to the pair and looked at both Roisin and Dex.

"You must be Pyre's favourite new students" He smirked. "I don't like teachers pets..."

"Don't care" Roisin shrugged.

"Leave it Ros" Dex sighed.

"No, I'm not having some lanky piece of shit tell me what to do aft-" Roisin began. The boy pushed Roisin backwards, Roisin's eyes turned red.

"Ros! Stop!" Dex said, jumping in between her and the boy.

Roisin grunted and her eyes faded back to their normal colour.

"Yeah, listen to your bunny boyfriend" The boy laughed, flicking Dex's ear, Dex span and roundhouse kicked the boy in the stomach. The boy fell over in pain, Roisin walked over and kicked him in the stomach.

"Stop right there!" An angry female voice shouted from the opposite end of the corridor. A tall slender woman, a teacher, with dark frizzy hair marched up to Dex and Roisin.

"What are you doing, attacking my boy?" The woman asked.

"He started it" Roisin frowned.

"And I see you finished it, I should have guessed it'd be the two Ishtallian's causing trouble" The woman snarled.

"Fuck off" Dex grunted. "Didn't come halfway across the world just to be talked to like this by some stuck up teacher" He shouted, as he punched the wall and marched off.

"Dex!" Roisin shouted, as she gave chase.

"Typical Ishtall behaviour" The woman shrugged, her badge read 'Mabyl Iryn'.

Roisin caught up with Dex in the courtyard, where he was stood angrily kicking the ground. She walked over and put her arms around him, and rested her head on his shoulder.

"Sorry" He sighed.

"What for?" Roisin asked.

"Losing it back there" Dex frowned.

"Hey, I did too" Roisin smiled.

Dex smiled back and kissed Roisin.

"Hey you two!" A male students voice called out.

"Huh?" Roisin and Dex said in unison, looking over to the student.

"That was pretty cool what you did back there, Ryece has needed his ass kicking for so long" The student laughed.

"Uh, yeah... it seems so" Dex chuckled, scratching his head.

"I'm Weslye, but you can call me Wes, nice to meet you both!" The student smiled, introducing himself.

"Hi, I'm Roisin and this is Dex, we just came here from Wynd Academy" Roisin smiled.

"Huh, Wynd? Didn't that..." Wes began.

"Yeah, we were out of town at the time, had to come here on foot" Dex explained.

"Hmm, Wes, have you seen any other newish students. Logan, Yana and Hannah? They should have started here just before summer" Roisin asked.

Wes rubbed his chin and thought. He couldn't recall anyone by those names starting recently.

"I don't think I have, no, they friends of yours?" Wes asked.

Skylar Pyre came out of the main entrance and made a beeline toward Dex and Roisin.

"Uh oh..." Dex sighed.

"What are you two playing at, you've only been here a day and you've already sent a student to the infirmary!" Skylar yelled.

"It wasn't that bad..." Roisin shrugged.

"Maybe not for you two, but Reyce is just a regular student, he's not had the experience that you both have had" Skylar sighed.

"Sorry" Roisin frowned. "It's hard adjusting to life here, we've been on the road so long, we've gotten used to having to stand up for ourselves whenever there is a threat" She continued.

"I understand, Ms. Luna, just... please try" Skylar smiled softly.

"I will, I'm sorry Mrs. Pyre" Roisin smiled.

"As am I" Dex nodded.

"I saw the whole thing, Mrs. Pyre, Recye did push Roisin first, Rosie was just defending herself" Wes interrupted.

"Roisin" Roisin corrected.

"Hmm, still, watch yourselves, Roisin and Dex" Skylar said, as she turned and left.

"Thanks" Roisin smiled at Wes.

"No problem!" Wes smiled. "Say, you guys wanna go to the city and get some food?" He asked.

"Sure, I think we could both do with a chance to unwind" Roisin nodded, and looked at Dex.

"Yeah, I'm up for it too" Dex smiled.

The three made their way to the cable car platform.

"So, what's Ishtall like?" Wes asked.

"Cooler than this place" Roisin chuckled.

"Yeah, it does get warm here with the whole volcano thing" Wes smiled.

"So, Wes, what is your weapon of choice, in battle?" Dex asked.

"Mine is my gloves, I can pack a fair punch with them" Wes replied.

"Huh, don't get many people using their hands in battle, that's pretty neat" Dex complimented Wes.

"Yeah, it can take the enemy by surprised" Wes laughed. "So what about you two?" He asked.

"I got two mini crossbows that appear on my arm, and from those sword blades can spring out" Roisin said excitedly.

"Nice, three weapons in one" Wes smiled.

"Mine's just a simple spear which can turn into various types of lances" Dex replied.

"Can't go wrong with a spear" Wes nodded.

The three headed off into the city to have dinner, talking away til the late hours of the night.
