Chapter 7

TESSA’S POV

The events of the day had left me with more questions and suspicions than answers.

What if Adrian actually knew about it? What would Will gain by separating us apart? Da mn it! It was becoming frustrating.

The wail of my child snapped me out of my reverie and I quickly swooped him up from the crib before he woke the remaining two up.

“Shhhh little one” I cooked gently cradling him in my arms, his cries reduced to whimpers and he fell asleep in my arms.

My head felt like a rollercoaster and I felt dizzy as I placed him back gently into the crib and went outside into the small shed beside the house where Gabe usually stayed to prepare herbs.

The sun dipped below the h orizon, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange, a sense of tranquility descended upon the forest, the air was filled with soft rustles of leaves and birds chirping quietly in the distance. The earthly scent of pine mingled with the aroma of fallen leaves filled the air with a comforting embrace.

I had never truly appreciated the serene environment since I got here but this was a time of quiet reflection, to pause and appreciate the beauty of the land before darkness enveloped it all.

I shut my weary eyes in silent consternation letting the silence take hold of me when I heard a thump from the shed snapping me out of my daze. Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Walking silently into the shed, I found Gabe grinding some flowers together on the Stony slab. I was used to this sight after living with him for so long, he was really Good at his job judging that he was called upon by many packs in need of his medical assistance and I often sat with him, feeling content with just watching him do his job.

He cleaned his sweat with the edge of the shirt he was wearing and smiled at me, beckoning me over.

“How are they?” He asked, his eyes darting to the mushed flowers he was scooping into a bowl.

I shrugged and sat on a low chair. My wolf howled quietly and I sensed why–wolfsbane.

Crinkling my eyebrows, I looked at Gabe confused as to why a werewolf medic would be dealing with wolfsbane. It sounded absurd and my curious nature got the better of me

“You have wolfsbane here, right?” I asked.

He smiled

“Tessa, you’re a wolf. It’d be weird if you didn’t notice, of course. Don’t be scared, it’s simply for an experiment” He said raising a glass jar with a wolfsbane in it.

I shrinked away from it instinctively – my wolf kept howling but I ignored it.

“What experiment?” I asked

“I’m trying out Moon bloom, the Starflame pack says they need it because they are under constant attacks by rogue wolves at night”

I raise an eye up.

“What’s moonbloom?” I ask feeling a bit stu pid.

Gabe expression gives me that “just how stu pid are you” kinda feeling and I want to crawl back into the ground and hide.

“You’ve been with me for so long-” he paused and pointed a stained nail to me.

Chapter 7

“Do you even pay attention to what I do?” He asked

@/1%

I give him a wide toothed smile that just tells him exactly what he wants to hear – No, no I don’t pay attention, I’m usually brooding over my life while staring at him.

He takes a deep breath and shakes his head.

“Come closer and watch, all this should come in handy one day” he said beckoning me over.

Grudgingly, I get up and move over to him watching him as he picks out several flowers while explaining to me – oh goddess, let his explanation stick in my filtering head.

Gabe knelt beside a small fire, surrounded by an array of dried herbs and potions. With the skill of a seasoned healer, he selected each ingredient with reverence, his hands moving with a fluid grace as he measured and mixed them together.

The first ingredient,” Gabe began, his voice low and resonant, “is comfrey, known for its remarkable ability to mend even the most grievous of wounds. It carries within it the essence of regeneration, soothing inflamed tissues and encouraging the body’s natural healing process.”

Next, he reached for a vial of arnica, its golden hue shimmering in the firelight. “Arnica,” he continued, “possesses the power to ease pain and reduce swelling, making it invaluable in treating injuries sustained in battles with rival packs. Its presence in this concoction ensures swift relief for even the most battered and bruised of werewolves.”

Gabe’s gaze softened as he turned his attention to a bundle of dried chamomile flowers. “Chamomile,” he murmured, “brings a sense of calm and tranquility, both to the body and the mind. Its delicate aroma soothes frayed nerves and eases tension, offering solace to those who bear the weight of their burdens.”

Finally, he added a handful of fragrant lavender blossoms to the mixture, their scent filling the air with a heady sweetness. “Lavender,” he explained, “is a beacon of serenity in a world filled with chaos. It lulls the restless soul to sleep, granting respite from the trials of the day and nurturing the spirit with its gentle embrace.”

With each ingredient carefully blended together, Gabe’s potion took on a life of its own, pulsing with the combined energy of healing and renewal. As he poured the finished mixture into vials, ready to be administered to those in need, a sense of quiet satisfaction settled over him. For in these simple herbs lay the power to heal, to comfort, and to restore hope to even the most wounded of souls.

Wow, the entire speech was so beautiful that it just felt re hea rsed. Either way, I was mesmerized by the beauty of the process and I found myself itching to learn more.

“I want to learn more” I found myself saying.

He smiled and closed a jar open next to him.

“About time”
