Chapter Fourteen: A Visit to what was once home 

As days drew closer, my chances of winning the election drew slim as funds went dry. Although we shared the money and the business, I was made to handle the Real Estate companies as well as hotel management while Thomas oversaw the overall affairs of the companies I handled and also handled the Tech and Oil companies. Since he was made to head everything, he had higher connections to people of calibers and statues and he handled most of the funds leaving me at his mercy, years ago it wasn’t a burden but now, it was all I could think about and so I needed to pay him a visit and maybe talk some sense into him. 

It has been more than a month since I moved out and my home didn’t feel like home to me anymore. It was like a strange fortress without a leader. New faces posing as house staff lurked the house, without poise and decorum every inch of what I used to call home had been defiled by the pollution of bitter emotions. As I walked into the apartment a cool sensation rushed to my face. The sight of the dinning table brought the Thanksgiving memory back. I stood at the same spot Jayden had been when he walked in all brave. I had missed him so dearly and hoped he would call me soon. 

The lavender with a tinted coffee smelled faintly as a new aromatic odor filled the house. I could hardly recognize the living room as most of my floral printed wallpapers had been replaced with a much plain one. 

“Who could have such a bland taste?” 

It was certainly not Thomas as we had particularly picked the designs of the wallpaper ourselves. Catherine walked out of the kitchen with my favorite watershed apron on a lingerie, holding a plate of dripping pancakes. Just then Thomas walked out in the most hilarious look I had ever seen him on leather panties and a fetish bondage collar with restraints. They were clearly in some mood but I was not in the position to give them space. I needed to talk to Thomas. 

“What are you doing here? He froze on seeing me. 

“This is still my house and I have the keys. Please go put some clothes on, we need to talk.” 

Thomas mumbled some words I could not get hold of. 

“I think I would need to change the locks.” 

“And why the fuck will you do that?” 

“After you betrayed me and went against me as my opponent, letting you into this house unannounced is risky. You are a rival and that should not happen.” 

“Whatever, I just want to talk to you and I’ll be out of here. It doesn’t even feel like home anymore. But please go put some clothes on, the both of you.” I instructed. Soon they both arrived with bathrobes on, I wondered why I would have to talk to Thomas with Catherine around. 

“Send her away Thomas, I need to talk to you.” Catherine settled on holding on to Thomas. 

“Please darling, let me hear what she has to say. I promise it will be quick.” She eyed me walking

“I see, I wonder why the council let this happen. It is against the rules of contesting. I wonder how many beds you had to lay on to get such strings pulled to make you a contestant.” 

“Think all you want Thomas but you will have to agree to the fact that they saw I was a better match. But sadly, they still need the people to decide. You know I would win this, that is why you blocked my access to funds. I wonder how the people will feel when they know that.” 

“You can’t do that because you know it will also be bad for you.”

I had not expected that as I watched the diamond ring in her finger, not too long after I removed.

“Oh I see, just a few weeks after our separation and you are already handing her one. I hope you find what you want. 

“I am all that Thomas wants. Young, vibrant, energetic unlike you. You know he complains about you all the time.”

“Save me the details. He tells me every time too. Congratulations Thomas. And for the record, the floral design is an awful choice for the walls of a living room, this exquisite, but too bad you wouldn’t know that.” 

Thomas had vehemently refused to let me have access to money as I was dying of need. A billionaire’s almost ex wife who had no money, such irony. And so I was left with no other choice than to do what I should have done a long time ago.
