Chapter Nineteen: Everything is Revealed

My subconscious replayed the events at the car the first day we had been together. Fucking him had made my life brighter. I had fallen in love with him so deeply that everything else pales in comparison to the peace I felt when I was in his arms.

“Babe…”

He tapped my hand softly, and I drifted back to the present. My hands were too tight around his neck. I had been so lost in my fear of losing him that I nearly strangled him.

“What’s on your mind, darling?” Evans whispered in my ears; I could perceive the thin smell of the coffee we had earlier.

“Nothing, I just have a lot on my mind,” I replied, squeezing his fingers that were in front of me.

“What’s on your mind, dear? You have that look,” he asked again.

“What look?”

“The one that brings the lines to your face.”

I turned toward him.

“Why do you avoid telling me about your family or about your personal life? You’ve known me for months now, and you know almost everything about me, but I can’t say the same for you.

I looked into his eyes. He tried to avoid mine, and it hurt me that he would want to do that. Furiously,

I sat upwards on the bed, folding my arms across my breasts. “I’d tell you all about it later.”

He tried to hold me.

“That’s what you always say, Evans.” I replied, looking at him. My chest felt tightened as I was still

furious.

“This conversation is pointless; I’m going to bed.”

Oh, that’s what you have to say to me? Look, I’m trying to trust you here.“”

“Trying to? So all this while I’ve just been a puppet for you?”

“It’s not like that, Evans; you know what I mean.”

“C’mon Regina, you would not want to ruin the beautiful night that we just shared. Let’s not end it like this.”

“Well, you started it.”

With those words, I adjusted, putting a blanket over my head as I prepared to go to sleep, leaving Evans by himself, sitting in the dark. By dawn, I got all dressed and headed out, ignoring every apology that he had to make.

“Why the long face, Regina? Yesterday you left here all grining, and now you haven’t said a worsh since you returned. What happened?”

“We had the best time, but I don’t know why he wouldn’t want to tell me about his family”

“I thought he did.”

“Well, not in the way that I want,”

“Have you tried talking to him about it

“You think I haven’t? He just keeps looking for excuses not to tell me. I think he is hiding something. Maybe he doesn’t love me enough to want to let me know about them. I knew this was a mistake”

“You need to calm down, Regina; I think you are overthinking this.”

“I have known him for six months now; is that not enough time?”

“But you have refused to become a thing with him; maybe that’s why he still feels insecure about it”

“Why are you giving excuses to him anyway? I thought you were on my side.”

“I am on your side. But we have to be realistic about things. Maybe he could be going through a lot.”

“At least he should have mentioned it to me.”

“Well, why were you being jiggled at his place? Something great happened.”

“What happened?”

“You have more points now than Thomas. Technically, everyone likes you.”

“Wow, let me see.” I took a quick glance at the page, which stretched my lips in a smile.

“Something to lighten my mood. This is good. Angela, this is good. I think I have a shot at this.”

“Yes, you do.”

The next day started as soon as I got to work, but as I walked down the hallway, I couldn’t help but notice the stares from the people who walked past me. It felt like their gaze penetrated through my. skin; most of them chuckled as they saw me pass by.

I did not wait to exchange pleasantries with the lady at the counter as I hastened into my office. Leaning behind the door.

“What could be wrong?” I thought to myself, and just then I heard a knock on the door. It would be Jane bringing the files in, and so I sat upright, forcing out a smile as she walked in, but she did not have her usual morning glow as she walked in

“Good morning, ma’am; these are the files to be worked on today. You have a meeting by noon with the people for Kinks Company.

She dropped the document as she was about to leave. I looked at her face for an expression, maybe

something I would work with; that would explain why the rest of the staff had a long face as I walked in all morning, but there she was in a mood that had no meaning; I just couldn’t place it, and the more she walked away, the more my curlosity got to It’s peak. I needed to know that after all, still their boss

“Jane,” I called out, and she turned towards me.

“Yes, ma’am.”

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“I’m so sorry.”

Her apology didn’t just catch up, and I became even more inquisitive.

“What’s going on? What are you sorry for?”

“The video,”

“What video?”

“Have you seen this, ma’am? It’s all over the internet.”

Jane showed me her phone as a video played on the screen.

I took the phone and watched closely, keenly staring.

of me.

I’m so sorry, ma’am.”

“How did this… How did this get out? Who filmed this?”

Tears fell freely from my eyes from within my tightened chest. I could not believe what I was looking at. It explained a lot now–everyone’s behavior as I walked down the hallway.

“This is not good. This is not good at all.”

“I’m so sorry,” she kept on saying.  S~ᴇaʀᴄh the Find_Nøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Stop saying that! Did you do this?”

“No, of course not, ma’am.”

“Then stop apologizing; it’s pissing me off!” I snapped.

“Who did this? How did this get out?” My hands trembled, and I dropped the phone on the desk.

“It came in as an email; we all saw it this morning when we came to work.”

“Where is my laptop?” I searched around for it.

“Get me a laptop this minute!”

“We have tried to bring it down, but whoever uploaded this sure is using very advanced technology.”

“Get me professional tech personnel right now!”

“Yes, ma’am.”

As she left, my mind drifted into thoughts on who would have done this. Thomas was my first suspect, but how could he have gotten access to Evans abode? He desperately wanted the mayor’s position, and then Evans came to mind.

“No, it can’t be him. I shouldn’t. My heart won’t take it.” I wiped tears from my eyes.

Just then, my phone rang. It was Thomas.

“Oh God!”
