Chapter 9

I pick her up and hold her tightly to me as I rush down the stairs and out the door. I am sprinting to the hospital, trying my best to not jostle her around too much. When I reach the hospital, I burst through the doors, bypassing the woman at the desk and take her straight to a patient room. Several nurses followed me in, a perk of being the alpha I suppose, and waste no time tending to her. My heart drops when they unwrap her and her wounds become visible. The fluorescent lighting makes them look even worse than they had at the apartments building. As they begin cleaning the wound, she lets out a pained whimper and my feet move of their own volition to the head of the bed. I lean forward and brush some loose strands of hair out of her face.

“Hey, you are going to be okay. I know it hurts, but it will only be for a short while. You were so damn brave. Just hold on.” Her eyes open just enough for me to see a hint of the beautiful deep blue.

“Danny?” I can feel waves of fear flowing off of her so I take her hand tightly in mine and pull it to my chest.

“Danny and the baby are doing fine. Rose and Edmund will be ok too. I can’t say the same about the two rogues you beat the shit out of.” Her lip pulls up ever so slightly and I can’t expressed how much that small gesture provides me with relief.

“Alpha, we are going to need to clear the room so we can get this stitched up.” A small whimper slips past her lips and my wolf growls in response.

“You can do it while I am here. I am not leaving her.” I don’t understand why my wolf is being so protective of her, but I am certainly not going to fight him on it since I don’t want to leave her either. The whole time they are stitching her wounds closed, I am staring at her and wondering how I had ever thought she would be capable of bringing harm to my pack. In the short time she has been here, she has brought so many people in my pack happiness. She has been selfless, kind and proven repeatedly that she belongs here. The nurses finish with the stitches and bandages then cover her with a sheet.

“Alpha, we really should clean her up.” I look at the nurse, holding a wet cloth in one hand and a bowl of warm water in the other.

“I’ll do it.” I take the items from her, ignoring the look of shock she is giving me, and begin gently wiping away the dried blood from her beautiful pale skin. I am almost finished cleaning her face when her eyes open, a startled expression gripping her delicate features.

“What are you doing?” I smile and shake my head at her.

“You are covered in a mixture of your blood and rogue blood. I was hoping to have you cleaned up before you woke. How are you feeling?” She attempts to sit up, but the effort proves too painful. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Like I got into a fight with a meat grinder.” I chuckle while wiping more blood off her face.

“No meat grinder, just two rogues.” Her face grows serious and her eyes become dark.

“Were they trying to take Danny and Toby?” I set the cloth in the bowl, place them on the metal tray and take a seat on the edge of her bed, pulling her hand into mine.

“I honestly don’t know, but that is how it looked. It is something we will need to look into.” I can feel how exhausted she is as I set her hand back on the bed. “Why don’t you get some rest. I will let your aunt know you are here.”

“Can you check on Rose and Edmund for me? I need to know that they are okay.” Her concern for them is overwhelming and I find that I have nodded in agreement without so much as thinking of it, as though my body is willing to agree to whatever is necessary to put her at ease.

“Yes, I will.” I turn to leave, but stop when her door swings open as The doctor walks in, his eyes focusing on the papers on the clipboard in his hand.

“Ms. Delante, my name is Dr. Morrow. I need to ask you some questions.” I do not miss the hesitation and strain in his voice, leaving me to wonder what could be on those papers that has him in such an unsettled state. His eyes slowly lift from the contents of the clipboard and quickly widen when he notices me.

“Ask away doc.” His eyes flash to the white haired she-wolf then back to me.

“I am not sure you want an audience for this. The questions are of a …personal nature.” The emphasis on the word personal tells me it is likely best if I leave.

“I will check on Rose and her mate. I can come back and check on you after I take care of a few things.” She nods her head softly and gives me a faint smile. I turn and quickly exit the room so that the doctor can ask her his questions and I can do what I promised her I would before seeking out her aunt. After checking in with Rose, I hurry to Sandy’s house to let her know what is going on with Nadia, but she is much too intoxicated for it to fully register. I am on my third round of explaining everything to her when I feel someone open the pack link and it is flooded with emotions of panic and fear before the words travel through.

‘Alpha, we need Sandy Velross brought here immediately.’

‘What’s going on?’

‘Ms. Delante coded. We were able to revive and stabilize her, but she is hanging on by a thread that is quickly fraying.’

‘I will be there as fast as I can. Sandy is…in a bad way.’

‘It doesn’t matter, alpha. Just get her here!’

The link closes and I look deep in Sandy’s eyes, sending out wave after wave of my alpha aura. The intensity works to sober her up some as she now stares at me in confusion.
