“You’re delusional.” Alpha Don whispered.

“I’m actually in a decent frame of mind right now.” I sat back down in my chair and took a sip of water. “But it can change at any moment, so you know…be careful.” I shrugged.

Alpha Kane sat down in his chair across from me and clasped his hands together. “Aviry, never in my years has there been a female alpha—”

“NEVER!” Alpha Don parroted. He’s an older man with a patchy white beard. His hair is balding at the top and thinning on the sides. Judging by the brown liver spots on his skin, he’s a lot older than the Alpha Kane.

“Please continue, Kane, let this girl know that you will not put up with this nonsense.” He spat.

Kane looked back at Don and continued, “It’s a big responsibility to run and control a pack. It takes years to train and become an alpha. A luna is still a great leadership position, you still—”

“As long as there is an alpha male above me, it will NEVER be good enough. You MEN have chosen to use females as pawns in a game where one of us is lucky enough to win your dirty hands. And that has cost an innocent life. These other champions you have chosen will make be great pack wives. But I will not submit to that lifestyle.”

“How did that sound, Mia?” I asked.

“Good. You sounded like me for a sec there. Make sure you add in a hint of you.” Mia chuckled.

Nixon faced me, “What about winning the competition? How can you be both an alpha and a champion? Are you saying you no longer—”

“I will continue competing like a champion. I just have a new goal to achieve.” I rolled my eyes. That’s all he seems to care about. Winning this damn competition.

“Psh, what’s the point? What man wants an alpha luna?” Alpha Sam said, stretching his arms up.

“A smart one.” I shrugged. “One who knows what fucking generation it is.” I looked at Don and looked back at Alpha Kane. “And more importantly, who I am. I will win this for myself, and then I will take charge of my new position as alpha. If you don’t like it, challenge me.”

Everyone stilled in their chairs and looked at each other. the clock on the wall tick and stocked. And the silence that fell over ther room was heavy.

“Well? Who will take a stand along with me.”Alpha Don, who was still standing, looked to Kane, and then Victor. “ Tsk, shame on you cowards. This is a female she-wolf, an inexperienced dire wolf. Do this for Derrick to win back his pride.”

Jared grabbed his crotch. “That was taken away from him by the same inexperienced she-wolf. So I’ll pass.”

Alpha Don strode to stand behind Nixon. He placed his hands on the back of his chair. “And what about Nixon, hmm? Is this the respect that you show to him? He chooses you as his—”

“THEY TOOK ME FROM MY HOME!” I shouted, pushing back from my chair. It fell to the floor, clattering on the wood floor. “I volunteered for this shit, and I’m getting paid! And as for Nixon, he already has a submissive bitch riding his shit!” I am becoming irritated with this conversation. Either accept what’s happening or fight me about it.

Nixon shot me a look of disbelief. His eyes wide and his mouth slightly open. He ran his fingers through his dark hair and shook his head.

Alpha Kane gasped and looked over to Nixon, “Is this true? Are you already mated Alpha Nixon?”

“No. I do not have a definite luna in place, and I am still unmated. Kasey and I are just…talking. It isn’t like that—”

“Yeah, sure it isn’t.” I rolled my eyes. “Don’t deny what’s really happening. Just be upfront about it. Speaking of denial, Nixon—”

Nixon shot up from his chair and covered my mouth. “Anyways, it’s late everyone. Aviry, you’ve spoken your peace.” He said to me with narrowed eyes releasing my face. I smirked and licked my lips, glaring into his blue eyes. “Let’s keep a cool head and adjourn for the night. Do you agree, Alpha Kane?”

“Agreed, but Nixon, we will talk about this luna situation soon.” Alpha Kane rose from the chair and walked to the doors. “Gentlemen…lady,” Kane said, slightly bowing to me. “We’ll gather tomorrow for the funeral. Have a good night’s rest.” He opened the doors and left, followed behind by Victor, Sam, and Xavier.

A grinning Jared slapped Nixon on the shoulder and pulled him off to the side. “Stay here.” He mouthed back to me as if I’d listen.

I turned to leave until a seething Alpha Don stopped in front of me. He looked me up and down with a scowl on his face. “I don’t know what you’re up to. But I will not let you upset the balance of—”

“Ooo, let me guess I like word games. Of the world? No umm of nature?” I crossed my arms and turned my head to the side. “Am I close—”

“Listen, girl!” Alpha Don spat.

“No! You listen, you old son of a bitch! The boys club is over, so either accept it or step the fuck back.” I stepped closer to his face, “But if you continue to piss me off, you’ll just find yourself alive in a burning casket!” I snarled.

“You are a beast!” He spat.

“The most savage of them all!” I spat back. Mia showed her face in that instance, and I could see my eyes glowing from his reflection.

Don flinched back and slowly left the room.

“That guy is going to be a problem,” Mia growled.

I stared at the door and ran my finger through my hair. “Do you want me to end him now? I was going to wait until after the competition.”

“We have other things to focus on. His fate will fall in our hands eventually. Now can we get back to Cay? That will calm us down—”

“UGGGH! Please don’t remind me.”

After losing the bet with Cay, we finished our dinner and watched classic movies, which lulled me to sleep. I woke up to Mia purring in my head and soothing vibrations on my face. I had fallen asleep on the couch, and I was lying on Cay’s chest. Judging the drool spot on his pecs and the remaining evidence on the side of my mouth. It was enough proof that I had been there for a while.

I woke up to lay in a bed, but that only lasted for a moment. The warm chocolate scent that only enhanced with each breath he took was overwhelming. I wanted to lay back down with him, but instead, I left the room to take a walk. That’s when I heard my name being spoken from this room, and I decided to see why.

I walked forward, ready to leave the room when one of Nix’s large hands landed on my shoulders. “Jared, I’ll see you in the morning. Aviry, stay, and have a drink with me.” He shoved a glass into my hand and walked the other alpha to the door, closing it behind him.

Nixon turned to face me. “What was that shit!” He whisper shouted. He snatched a glass from a small table and poured in a dark brown liquid.

“That, my dear Nix-icorn, is called change.” I took a sip of my drink and winced as I sat my ass on the table. “The takedown of male domination.” I laughed.

“This isn’t funny, Aviry. The other alphas will not allow female leadership. You’ll be an easy target for rogues, hunters, and whatever else sees you as a threat.” He threw a hand in the air and slammed the glass down. “Newsflash that’s everyone you encounter.”

“Your other challenge is finding allies and actual pack members. Besides me, maybe, who would want to work with a hot-headed dire wolf? Who will stand by you when it comes to war?”

“The same person who got me through life.” I finished the drink and set the glass down. “It had always been me against the world, but, this time I have Mia, and maybe even Cay on my side.”

“Tsk, Cay will stand by me and my choices. This mate bond we all share will not come between our brotherhood.” Nixon took the glasses and set them in a bin. “Speaking of him. Why is his scent so strong on you?”

“Mmm, that is a secret. But I’m sure you’ll understand tomorrow morning.” I stood from the table and walked over to the door and opened it. This conversation is over between the two of us.

I’m not sure where he stands in this situation. But, before I stepped out of the room I looked back to my supposed mate. “Pick a side, Nixon. Either you're with me or against me.” I left the room and shut the door behind me before he could reply back.
