Chapter 25

Carrie

The day ran smoothly, vamp hour was as busy as it normally was for a Saturday night. Something had them all energized and excited. Which had me worried.

As the night went on, Deacon’s obsession with my neck grew. He was constantly kissing it and stroking it. It wasn’t until one of his fangs grazed it that I realized he had not fed since the night before he left.

“Do you need to feed?” I whispered to him. None of the donors were sitting at the bar, they were all occupied elsewhere.

“It seems so. I haven’t gone this long without feeding from you in over two months. It’s been even longer since I fed you. And with the scent in the room… I feel like a druggy going through withdrawals.”

I rubbed my lips together and looked around the room cautiously. “Do you need to feed, now? Or are you alright to wait a few more hours?”

Deacon was heading into a trance. He didn’t even hear me. He just stood at my side, his fingers caressing my neck.

“You’re going to need to feed him now, darling.” I looked up and saw Deacon’s friend, Lou, standing across the bar from us. “How long has it been since he fed?”

“Um. A little over two days, I think. I thought you all could go longer?”

He tilted his head side to side. “Typically, it depends on what our bodies are used to. How often does he usually feed?”

“Every night.”

Lou looked Deacon over. “Either you feed that boy now, or he is going to cave to his desires soon. If he caves, he will not have the control to stop. Which would kill both of you.” Lou laid two twenties on the counter and grabbed a donor on her way back to the bar.

“I can wait, angel. Don’t let him scare you. My kind aren’t like theirs, remember? I’m just enjoying your scent and the smoothness of your skin.”

Ya huh, he totally sounded in control right now. And nothing like a creepy psychopath.

“Feed, Deacon. Please. Take what you need.”

His eyes refocused, the glow receding, and he looked at me. “I thought you didn’t want me to feed in public.”

“You need it.” I bit my lower lip, like I was confessing a sin. I kind of was. “I missed the feel of your teeth last night, Deacon. Please?”

Deacon looked around the room, no one was watching. I knew he could still feel my trepidation. Deacon didn’t know how to feed without doing other things. He hated it.

Two things I swore I would never do in public.

You know, kind of like I swore I would never be with more than one man, and certainly not at the same time.

A grin slid over his face, the kind that said he had a plan I was going to both love and hate. He kissed my neck and slowly made his way down my chest, between the shirt that only covered the bare necessities, and down my waist.

He knelt on the floor, moving inside the small alcove that held the water pipes for the bar sink. I shivered when his lips met my thighs. I had to bite my tongue when I felt his fangs slowly sinking into my thigh. His fingers took position a little higher than his teeth. The resulting feeling was both terrifying and spectacular.

Lou winked at me, as he released his donor. He knew very well what was going on behind the bar. They could all probably smell both my panic from them noticing, and my pleasure. I stopped being able to control my expressions, and let my head fall back.

I felt the intent rolling off Deacon, he did that on purpose. I felt his tongue sealing my thigh right after, immediately followed by going somewhere else.

He came up a few minutes later, his eyes back to normal, the wicked grin still in place.

“Feel better?” I asked sarcastically.

He kissed me and laughed. “Much. I should be asking you the same thing. That was…I don’t even know how to describe it. Your fear of being caught, mixed with your desires, it was intoxicating. I almost didn’t want to stop. Then when you caved to the feeling…”

He kissed me again. I could taste my blood still on his lips, among other things from me.

I didn’t get it. His blood was addictive to me, it was sweet, and easily the best thing I’d ever had. My blood, on the other hand, tasted like blood. He laughed at the grimace on my face when I tasted it.

The way he was looking at me, his eyes roving up and down my body had me scowling at him. His intent was shouting at me. I lifted a finger and pointed it at him.

“No. Not happening again. This was a one-time only deal.” I spun away and practically stomped off.

He followed me, begging like a puppy.

“Come on, angel. You can’t lie to me. I know you enjoyed it just as much as I did.”

I picked up a bucket and a cloth and went to a table that needed to be cleared. “I never said I didn’t. I just said it wasn’t happening again.”

Deacon stood behind me, sliding his hands on my waist seductively, leaning in to nibble my ear.

“Why not? I can feel how much you want to. You learned how good things were with Colton. You know this can be too. Just let your guard down, angel.”

I frowned. I helped keep him from losing control one way, just to swing him in a whole other direction. I turned in his arms and glared at him. It didn’t faze him in the least bit.

Deacon bent down and started kissing my neck. I knee’d him in the nuts. He dropped like a rock, laughing, and wheezing at the same time. The few vamps around us groaned louder than he had. I just stepped around my mate and walked off. It was nice to know that vampires were still sensitive there too. Possibly more so since they were almost always at least at half-mast.

By the time they had all left, Deacon was walking back over to me with an apologetic look on his face. “I’m sorry, angel. You were right, I got a little out of control.” I lifted a questioning eyebrow. “Yes, only a little. I backed off, didn’t I?”

“Fine.” I threw the dirty towel in the sink and turned off the lights.

I heard the sound of the cellar opening and closing, then all the power went off. Deacon was behind me again before I even made it to the stairs. He stopped me on the third step.

“Angel, come on. Please talk to me. I get that I pushed, that I let your blood get the better of me, but what is the big deal, really?”

I folded my arms and stared at him. “Why do you always have to keep pushing me? Why do you have to keep trying to change who I am? First with feeding me in my sleep, and you feeding from me. Which is ironic since you won’t let anyone else feed from an unwilling donor. Then you and Colton gang up on me when you already knew I was extra sensitive and would be unable to say no properly. And now this? Why, Deacon? Why can’t you be happy with who I already am?”

I tried to step back as he came forward, but I tripped over the next step, his arms caught me before I could fall on my butt. Stupid heels.

“I was never trying to change who you are, Carrie. I love you exactly as you are. I love your innocence. I love your purity, your spunk, the fire in you. I love your heart and how you care about everyone, whether they be vampire, human, or witch. I’m sorry if my actions have made it seem like I was trying to change you. I just want to make you happy. I want to share things from my life with you. You know I just wanted to protect you in the beginning, and yeah, I got a little selfish.” He held my hand against his chest. “I feel what you feel. I feel you wanting something but too afraid to take it. I knew Colton would make you happy. And he adds another layer of protection for you. I could sense, and even taste, how you felt tonight. My mind was lost to what I could give you down there. But I promise, I have never, nor will I ever, try to change who you are.”

“No more pushing on the public thing?”

He looked like he swallowed a raw egg. “I will wait for you to show me that you want it next time. How about that?”

“That’s not going to happen.” I smirked.

He leaned forward enough that I could feel his breath on my face. “We’ll see.” He kissed me softly before leading me up the stairs. “Just out of curiosity, what do you have against it?”

“Some things should just be done in private. They are between you and me… and Colton. I don’t want anyone else seeing any part of me. You’re lucky I ever agreed to wear this outfit in the first place.”

“But I love you in these clothes. I love seeing how perfect my mate is and knowing that no one else can see what treasures lie in there. I see your point though. What if I keep you covered for the whole time? Blocking their view of you?”

“No. It’s not happening.”

I walked into the bedroom and began to shimmy out of my skirt, letting it lay on my feet. I unwrapped the shirt from my head, then let it fall on top of my skirt. I didn’t even have time to turn around before I felt my mate behind me. Every glorious inch of him.

We were lying peacefully in bed, having finished who knows how many rounds, a little later. I swear, his blood was making me nearly as bad as them. Always waiting and ready at a moment’s notice. My body was still burning from the inside. I enjoyed lying there in the silence, feeling the liquid parts of him cool. It was one of my favorite parts. Even after he vacated the premises, he was still there. A gentle reminder.

Only something was different this time. One small spark was heating up again. It was almost as if he was still there, still releasing. I moaned and my eyes rolled back.

“Angel?” Deacon started to laugh at me. “What’s going on? I can feel you, it’s like you are still lost in the… why is it building?” He wasn’t laughing now.

I moaned out a scream and rolled to my back. “Your… stuff. It’s moving. Oh, my. I can feel it going… higher. Deacon!”

I was a little scared, but mostly enjoying it. It was like a never-ending tunnel of ecstasy. The torturous part was not being able to go over that wondrous edge.

“What’s going on?” I half pleaded - half moaned.

Deacon’s hands rubbed gently over my stomach, like he was searching for it. I moved his hand to roughly the right spot. His hand being that close made me whimper with need.

“I think my seed is trying to latch onto your eggs. I’ve never heard of anyone feeling it before. But then, most of our stories were lost. We need to help it. I just don’t know what to do.”

“Help, yes, help. I need you, now.” My back arched. I was enjoying this way too much. “Deacon!” I moaned, or maybe it was a whimper.

A moment later he was back where all this started. And it was exactly what I needed. I wouldn’t let him stop, not even when he was nearing the end.

After a half hour of not being able to stop, my body started heating up, like I had a fever. “Blood, I need your blood, and mine, take mine. I need… I don’t know...” I lifted my head to talk to him, but dropped it back again, as the need kept building.

My body wasn’t strong enough on its own, but his blood had been making me stronger over the last few months. I didn’t know how I knew. I just knew that I needed more of it. And I needed it now, or my body would never be able to accept his seed.

Thankfully, I didn’t have to explain any of that to him, he could feel it with me. It was just like the moment we sealed our souls together. He tried to pull away after a few minutes, I felt his worry, but I bit down on his wrist and held his head in place. I could feel his desire, his intent to slow down. I both bit his wrist and gripped his hair harder. He growled and picked up speed again.

I finally let him go when I was on the verge of passing out. The blood trade had him emptying out over and over again, he barely had time to take a breath before climaxing again. I tapped his shoulder after he finally began to slow and he literally fell to my side, both of us passing out.

I woke up hours later to a cool cloth on my head. “You’re burning up. How do you feel?”

“I don’t know. Last night was weird, but also extremely awesome.”

“For a moment, I thought I was going to kill you. Why didn’t you let me stop?”

I kissed the palm resting on my cheek before picking it up and holding it close to my heart. He sat on the edge of the bed next to me.

“I don’t know. I just knew I needed more from you and for you to take more from me.”

Deacon laid a hand on my stomach. “You feel different today. I can’t place it. Your smell has changed as well. Do you think it worked? Do you think my seed is attached to you?” There was no way to miss the hope lacing his words. Or the fear that was nearly its equal. He had wanted this for so long. And I wanted to give it to him, something that no one else had been able to do.

“It was sure trying its hardest last night. I feel something, something warm. Like there is still a small piece of you in there. This is so weird. Do any of the stories talk about this?”

“No. At least not that I know of. What about your stories?”

I shook my head. “No, the only one we have about vampire children, is the one where your mom died after you were born. I don’t know how my ancestors found out so much. Why are you scared? I thought you wanted a child, an heir?”

“I do. I was obsessed with it for a time. But I don’t want to lose you. More than half of the humans died during the second trimester. Half of those survivors died during childbirth.” I felt the crack as well as heard it in his voice. “I can’t lose you. When I bedded females with the purpose of trying for an heir before, I didn’t care whether they lived or died. I just wanted to try, for my people. But now, I’d rather we stagnate then lose you.”

I sat up and wrapped my arms around his neck. “I love you so much. We will find a way through this. I have a feeling there hasn’t been anyone like us in a very long time. We can talk to other vampires, do research. You said, as your fated mate, your blood can heal me. Maybe that was why we needed to do that last night. Deacon, you have been giving me blood every night for two months. How many vampires did that in the past? My cells are stronger than those of a normal human, even than a normal witch. If I get weaker, I will feed off you.”

He nodded, but his worry and fear did not fade.
