We walked through many turns and hallways with Sigmund followed closely behind us. Our steps came to a halt in front of a double oak door.

Sigmund came forward and opened the double doors. He held the door open and stood aside to let us pass. After the three of us entered the room, Sigmund shut the doors behind him.

I looked around the room. At the either side of the wall were displayed various paintings of people. It seemed that those were the pictures of the former kings and queens, royal family members, and the ancestors of this kingdom.

King Bellamy led me to one of the paintings at the corner of the room. “Look at that picture!” He pointed to a portrait of a beautiful young woman hung on the wall.

When I stared at the painting before me, I was like looking at my own reflection. The young woman in the picture was very similar to me. Her brown hair, her brown eyes, her sharpnose, her lips, her posture, everything was precisely the same with me. The only difference between us was the woman in this picture looked a little older than me.

“It is the proof that I am your grandfather,” he told me.

I frowned in puzzlement. “How can my picture prove that you’re my grandfather?”

“It’s not yours but your mother’s,” he rebutted.

“My mother’s?” I was startled.

“Definitely!” he exclaimed.

I burst out laughing after hearing his response.

“What are you laughing at?” he asked confusedly.

“Sorry, I can’t help it,” I apologized while kept chuckling.

When my laugher finally had died down, I said, “Okay. Let me confirm it again. You said this is a picture of my mother’s?”

“Yes,” the king replied.

I laughed again. “Do you think I’ll be fooled that easy? It can’t be my mother’s picture. Even a child can tell that it is a picture of mine in the older version.” sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FɪndNøvel.ɴᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

The vampire king looked upset with my remarks. “How can I have your picture when we even have never met before?”

“That’s as easy as pie. First, you stalked me, then you took my pictures. Or you can download my pictures on my social media accounts. That’s the easiest method. After that, you edited my face in the older version of mine,” I presumed.

“I don’t understand what you’re talking about, Mirabelle. But if you don’t believe the proof I showed you, then how do you think I can prove that I am your biological grandfather?” he asked me.

“DNA test,” I answered after pondering it for a few seconds, “It’s one of the most accurate ways to prove that we’re related by blood. If the result is 99.99 percent positively match, I will believe that you’re indeed my grandfather. Although it cannot be fully trusted since the result can also be counterfeited. But at least, we should have a try, right?”

“All right,” he agreed, “We are going to do a DNA test if you want it. But I still have another proof that you can’t deny.”

I folded my arms across my chest. “Okay, what is it?”

“Here it is!” He pointed to the locket I was wearing.

I frowned. “My locket?”

He nodded briefly. “Yes.”

King Bellamy suddenly spun me around. He unclasped my locket and unexpectedly opened it.

“How did you do that?” I wondered, “I’ve tried a million times to open it, but it still can’t be opened.”

“This locket uses magic. It will be opened only with blood,” he explained.

“Oh,” that’s all I could mutter.

“Look at the picture in this locket!” The king showed me the picture inside my locket. “It is the same as the woman in the picture hanging in the wall, isn’t it?”

I gasped when I realized those pictures were very similar. “Yeah, they look exactly the same. But how could it be?”

“I told you it’s your mother’s picture. This locket belonged to my wife. She gave it to our daughter, Princess Claribelle, when she decided to study in the human world a few decades ago. My wife had a witch to put magic in the locket so that it can conceal our daughter’s vampire scent. After you were born, your mother deliberately gave it to you in order that nobody could figure out that you’re a half-blood vampire,” he explained.

I shook my head in disbelief. “No, it’s impossible.”

King Bellamy touched my shoulder gently. “I know it’s hard for you to digest this information. So I’ll give you some times to mull it over, Mirabelle.”

After saying that to me, he turned to Sigmund and ordered him, “Sigmund, take Princess Mirabelle to her room now!”

“All right, Your Majesty,” Sigmund said while bowing his head slightly to his king.

He then approached me and held my arm. “Let’s go, Princess!”

I shook Sigmund off angrily. “Look! Even if I mull it over and over again, I will never believe a word you said. You can’t be my grandfather. You will never be—” Before I could complete my sentence, Sigmund covered my mouth with his hand.

“We’re first, your majesty,” he told his king.

Sigmund’s right hand kept covering my mouth while his left arm wrapped around my hip. After that, he hoisted me up and dragged my screaming and kicking body out of the room.
