There wasn’t much I could do in this huge bedroom and I was getting bored. No matter what happened, I had to figure out a way to escape from this place or else I would end up being crazy. But how could I do that?

It was impossible to jump out of the window considering this bedroom was on the top floor. So the only way to escape was through the door. I knew it might be pointless, but it’s worth a try.

I made my way towards the door and banged on it repeatedly. “Lupita, anybody, are you there? Please open the door!”

There was no answer.

I pounded at the door again, this time was louder. “Please open the door!”

“I am sorry, My Lady, we can’t open this door,” Lupita replied from the other side of the door.

“Can’t you open this door for a moment? I need your help here,” I said.

“I am sorry, My Lady, we can’t,” Lupita said regretfully. Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ Find_Nøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Please...!” I pleaded.

There was a silence for a moment, and finally the door flew open.

“What can I help you, My Lady?” Lupita asked.

“I need you to help me open this door. That’s it,” I said as stepping out of my room.

However, two guards stood in front of the door, blocking my way.

“Move!” I ordered but they didn’t budge.

“I said move!” I repeated, gritting my teeth.

“Princess, Lord Sigmund has told you that you’re not allowed to step out of this room, hasn’t he?” one of the guards said.

“Not allow me to step out of this room, huh?” I smirked.

“Okay, as his wish. I won’t step out of this room. But can you move up a little please?” I requested.

The guards looked at each other confusedly.

“Please!” I begged.

The guards lastly moved aside.

I took a few steps backwards and then I ran out of the room, passing the guards.

“Sigmund only said that you must not let me step out of my room. But he never says I can’t run out of my room, right?” I mocked them while chuckling.

But my victory didn’t last long since I was abruptly bumped into someone’s chest. I looked up and found that it was another guard.

The guard in front of me grabbed my arm and dragged me into my bedroom again.

“I’m sorry, Your Highness, but you’re not allowed to leave your room,” he said.

“Shush!” I put my index finger to his lips. “Who is the princess here?”

“I’m sorry?” he looked confused.

“I am asking you, who is the princess here?” I repeated my question.

“You are, Your Highness,” he replied.

“Okay, then you shut up and listen to my words! I want to get out of this room now and all of you can’t stop me. Get it?” I said firmly.

Lupita said, “But His Majesty told us—”

“Since he isn’t here,” I interrupted, “so you must follow my order because I am your princess, understand?”

“But Princess, we are—”

“If you disobey me, I will report you to Grand—I mean to the King. And let’s just see what will happen next!” I bluffed.

They looked at each other and lastly exchanged a meaningful nod.

“Okay, Your Highness, you may leave now,” said one of the guards.

“Good!” I exclaimed.

I walked out of the room. Annoyingly, the guards and Lupita followed me.

I spun around and asked them angrily. “Why are you following me?”

“It’s the procedure, Your Highness,” answered one of the guards.

“I don’t like being followed around. So just stay here, okay?” I ordered.

“But Your Highness—”

“I’ll be right back. I promise,” I butted in, “All of you must wait for me here! It’s an order from your princess, get it?”

“All right, Princess. But please don’t go too far!” said Lupita.

“Don’t worry! I just want to look around this palace,” I said with a fake smile.

Without waiting for their response, I walked away quickly.

I strolled along the hallway, looking for a way to escape from this place.

“Princess Mirabelle?” Out of the blue, someone yelled my new name.

I glanced over my shoulder and saw Sigmund walking towards me.

“Oh no!” I murmured.

I turned to the left and quickened my pace.

“Princess Mirabelle, wait!” Sigmund called after me.

I ignored him and kept walking.

“Mirabelle,” he screamed.

I quickened my steps again.

“Mirabelle, stop walking!” he sounded angry.

I didn’t look back and continued walking.

“Mirabelle.” Sigmund, who managed to keep up with me, caught my arm and spun me around to face him.

“Why didn’t you respond my calling, Princess?” he asked furiously.

“You called me?” I asked him back, playing innocent.

“Yes, I kept calling your name. Mirabelle, Mirabelle, but you kept walking away from me,” he explained in upset tone.

I slapped my forehead lightly. “Oh yes I forgot that it’s my name now. I am sorry. I thought you called someone else.”

“Forget it! By the way, what are you doing here?” he asked.

“I am just looking around,” I answered innocently.

“Just looking around, huh?”

“Yep!”

All of a sudden, he twisted my arm, causing me to whimper in pain.

“Liar! I know you’re trying to escape,” he said.

“I am not trying to escape. Now get off me! You’re hurting me,” I said.

He let go of my arm and glared at me. “Who has given you permission to leave your room?”

“This is my home too. I don’t need permission to do anything in my own home.”

“No, it isn’t your home but the king’s.”

“But you said the king is my grandfather, so I—”

“Shut up!” he cut me off. “Let’s go back to your room now!” He grabbed my hand.

“Fine.” I shook him off. “I’ll return to my room. But now let me walk around this place first.”

“No!”he stated coldly. “Come on!” he snatched my arm and yanked me forward.

“Okay, okay. Just get off me! I can walk by myself.”

He ignored me and dragged me along with him.

“Who has allowed Princess Mirabelle to leave her room?” Sigmund furiously asked the guards and Lupita as soon as we reached in front of my bedroom.

All of the guards and Lupita bowed their heads down regretfully.

A guard moved forward and answered him, “I am sorry, My Lord. We have tried to forbid her to leave, but Princess Mirabelle insisted—”

“Enough!” he interrupted, “If this happens again, I will give all of you a punishment that you can’t even imagine.”

All of the guards and Lupita looked terrified.

“Now you.” He turned to me. “Let’s go inside!”

Sigmund pulled me into the bedroom and then threw me on to the bed.

“Have you forgotten what the king had told you yesterday? He said you’re not allowed to leave your bedroom without the king’s permission. Then why did you break the rule?” he reprimanded me.

“It’s not my fault. You’ve been locking me up in this room for days and I felt bored. So I just wanted to look around this place. What’s wrong with that?” I said.

“Enough!” he snapped at me. “I’ll forgive you this time. But next time you try to escape again, I’ll make sure you’ll get the punishment you deserve.”

“I told you I wasn’t trying to escape,” I lied.

“You’re not trying to escape but trying to run away, right?”

“I won’t try to run if you didn’t lock me up here like a prisoner.”

“You’re not a prisoner here, but you’re our princess.”

“So you, vampires, have a habit to lock up your princess in her room?”

“No, we don’t. We keep you here because you’re not very well-behaved and we can’t have you trying to escape.”

“If I am really your princess like you told me, why are you afraid that I will try escape? Why?” I demanded.

“Look!” Sigmund grabbed my shoulders. “The King just wants his granddaughter to be here. So we have to make sure that you stay here with him. If you leave this place, it will be the end of our lives. I hope you’ll cooperate with us.”

“Why do I have to do what he wants? I am not even his granddaughter,” I said.

“Yes, you are,” he insisted.

“No, I am not,” I refuted, “Do you believe that I am a half-blood vampire? That’s ridiculous! If I am indeed a half-blood vampire, then where are my fangs? Why don’t I get burnt by the sun? I am not even afraid of garlic, silver, or whatever it is that you’re afraid of. Then it explains that I am an ordinary human, right?”

Ignoring my words, Sigmund said coldly, “I have some errands to run now, but I’ll be back later. You’d better not to try to escape again or I have no choice but to chain you to the bed.”

Before I could give a response, Sigmund slammed out of my bedroom.

’Why did Sigmund always foil my escape attempt?' I ran my fingers through my hair frustratedly.

'It seems that I have to try another way to escape from here,' I thought.
