King Bellamy was sitting behind a desk with a neat pile of documents on the top of it.

“Hi, Grandpa!” I greeted him with a smile as I walked across the room and then sat down in the chair opposite of him.

The vampire king looked at my clothes with disapproval. But before he could give any comment, I quickly said, “Grandpa, I want to go out with Prince Maximilian. You will allow me to go with him, won’t you?”

“So you want to go to human world again?” he asked icily.

My jaw dropped. “Ho—how do you know?”

King Bellamy laughed. “I am a king, Mirabelle. I have eyes and ears everywhere.”

I gulped. 'Oh no! Did he also know that I tried to escape last night?' I thought.

His lips curved in a smirk. “Yes, I knew what you did last night. Luckily, Prince Maximilian’s bodyguard could catch you. If you managed to escape, I would make sure that the three of you would be punished severely.”

“So—so you—you’re a mind reader too?” I stuttered.

He chuckled. “I don’t have to be a mind reader to know what you’re thinking about. Everything is obvious from your face.”

I hung my head in shame. “I’m sorry, Grandpa. Please don’t punish me!”

The vampire king rose from his chair, walked around the desk, and stood before me. He lifted my chin up so I had to stare at his eyes.

“Don’t be afraid, Mirabelle!” he said, “I won’t punish you. But you have to promise me that you will never try to run away again. You’re the only family I got left. I don’t want you to leave me. Do you understand?”

I hated to make a promise that I couldn’t keep. But if I didn’t promise him, he certainly would punish me. So willy-nilly I had to lie. “Yes Grandpa, I promise I won’t do that again.”

“There’s a good girl!” He ruffled my hair affectionately.

I forced a smile.

“One more thing. I don’t like you wearing such clothes in my palace.” King Bellamy pointed to my clothes in disgust.

“But I am wearing this because I want to go to the human world, Grandpa. I have to blend into the people there,” I reasoned.

“Fine. You may wear this kind of clothes when you go to human world, but you can’t wear it in this palace. Got it?” he said firmly.

“But I don’t feel comfortable wearing those gowns, Grandpa,” I protested.

“You’ll get used to it, Mirabelle,” he said.

“But I don’t like it, Grandpa,” I insisted.

King Bellamy took a deep breath. “It seems that no one can get the better of you in an argument, Mirabelle.”

I gave him a cheeky grin.

“OK then, you may wear such clothes when you’re alone in your bedroom. But you must wear the gowns when you’re with me. That’s final. Do you understand?” the vampire king emphasized.

I reluctantly nodded my head. “Yes Grandpa, I understand.”

“Good!” he exclaimed in satisfaction.

“Hmm... Grandpa?” I said hesitantly.

“Yes?” King Bellamy asked.

“So after this, you will forbid me to go with Prince Maximilian?” I enquired apprehensively.

“No, you’re free to go with your future husband,” he replied surprisingly.

My heart lifted at his answer. “Really?”

“Yes. But remember your promise! You won’t try to escape again,” he warned me.

“Yes Grandpa, I promise. Thank you so much.” I sprang to my feet and hugged him.

What I did apparently took the vampire king by surprise. But he quickly pushed the feeling aside and hugged me back.

“One more thing,” I added, detaching our embrace, “Do you mind if Sigmund didn’t go with us? I know Sigmund said that everywhere I went; he had to go with me. But I don’t want him to come with us this time.”

He frowned. “Why don’t you want him to come with you?”

“I don’t like him,” I answered frankly, “He’s so annoying. And he can’t stop arguing with Prince Maximilian. It gives me a headache.”

“I understand, Mirabelle. But no matter what happens, Sigmund must go with you. He’s there to guarantee your safety,” King Bellamy said.

“I don’t need Sigmund to protect me, Grandpa. Prince Maximilian’s bodyguard, Jasper, will go with us. He can protect us,” I insisted.

My grandfather let out a sigh. “All right, as you wish, my granddaughter. Sigmund won’t go with you. Happy?”

“Thanks again, Grandpa. You’re the best. I love you.” I hugged him again.

He stayed silent for a moment, before he finally answered, “I love you too.”

I detached myself from our embrace and said, “Okay, I have to go now. My future husband is waiting for me.”

“Sure. Be careful, okay?” he said with a smile.

“Yes. Bye Grandpa.” I waved at him.

He waved back at me awkwardly.

I walked out of his study, shutting the door after me. And then, I rushed to front door where Prince Maximilian and Sigmund were waiting for me. Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“How is it?” Prince Maximilian asked curiously after I reached there.

“King Bellamy has allowed me to go with you, Future Husband, and he said Sigmund didn’t have to follow us,” I explained.

“That’s impossible!” Sigmund said in disbelief.

“You can ask him yourself if you don’t believe me,” I said confidently.

“Let’s go, Princess!” Prince Maximilian linked his arm to mine and we started walking out of the palace.

Jasper followed behind us.

“Fine. I’ll ask the king myself and let’s see what happens,” Sigmund shouted after us.

We didn’t heed him and chose to get into the car.

“Drive!” Prince Maximilian ordered Jasper.

Jasper nodded. He was about to start the engine, but I interjected, “Wait!”

“What’s wrong?” Prince Maximilian asked in bewilderment.

“Jasper, you can teleport, right?” I queried.

“Yes so?” Jasper looked confused.

“Why bother driving a car when you can take us there in a blink of an eye?” I said.

“Princess, we can’t teleport wherever we like. The human would be terrified if they saw us suddenly appeared in front of them,” Maximilian explained.

“You’re right. I know it’s a stupid idea. I’m sorry,” I apologized.

“Never mind,” Maximilian responded, “So can we go now?”

“Sure.” I nodded with a smile.

At last, Jasper drove the car leaving the vampire kingdom.

Sigmund’s Point of View:

From what I heard, the vampire king was in his study right now. Thus, I rushed there straight away to talk to him.

I knocked on the door to the vampire king’s study three times and waited.

“Who is it?” I King Bellamy ask from the other side of the door.

“It’s Sigmund, Your Majesty,” I answered.

“Come in!” he ordered.

I pushed the door open and walked in.

“What’s wrong, Sigmund?” King Bellamy inquired.

“I’m sorry, Your Majesty. If you didn’t mind me asking, why did you let Princess Mirabelle go without me?” I enquired.

“I did it to make my granddaughter happy, Sigmund. I want her to settle down here, so she won’t think of running away again,” King Bellamy explained.

“But Your Majesty, it is too dangerous. I’m afraid—”

“I know,” he cut me off, “That’s why you must watch them from a distance, Sigmund. I don’t trust Prince Maximilian and his bodyguard can protect my granddaughter properly.”

“Alright, Your Majesty. I’ll do that,” I said.

King Bellamy finally dismissed me.

I bowed my head and then left the room to do the king’s order.
