When I woke up, the digital clock on my bedside table showed that it’s already half past ten in the morning. It past my waking time. But since I slept very late last night, I didn’t really care.

I stretched and turned to face Sigmund. He was curling up on the sofa by the window with a blanket over his body. His eyes were closed. The sound of his breathing told me that he was sleeping.

'Perfect!' I thought with a smirk.

Throwing back the covers, I carefully leapt out of bed, and began to tiptoe over to the walk-in closet. Every now and again, I glanced over my shoulder to check if Sigmund was still asleep. Fortunately, he didn’t even stir.

Quickly, I took my pyjamas off and changed into a pair of grey trousers and pink shirt. I didn’t bother having a shower first for I was afraid the noise would awake Sigmund.

Exiting the walk-in closet, I crept towards the door, and opened it carefully, trying not to wake Sigmund up.

It was very fortunate for me that the guards who were normally posted outside my bedroom door weren’t in their usual spots. They all must be sleeping by now considering vampires sleep by day and wake by night.

I looked around the hallways. When I was sure the coast was clear, I slipped out of my bedroom and shut the door behind me.

Before the others were awake, I hurriedly sneaked out of the palace, and headed straight to the garage.

I inspected every car that was parked in this garage. My luck was in when I found a car with a key which was still in the ignition. Therefore, I didn’t have to hot-wire the car— not that I knew how to do it anyway.

I pulled the door open and hopped into the driver’s seat. After buckling my seatbelt, I started the engine.

Yes, even though I was under age, but I knew how to drive. Marlon Sinclair, my adopted father had taught me and my sister, Marirosa, how to drive in order that we would have no difficulty in getting our driving licences after we graduate from high school later.

After driving through the thick forest for one hour, finally I reached the nearest city. Fifteen minutes later, I arrived in front of the café where I met Ivan, Randolph, and Alpha Adolph a few days ago.

Ivan told me that they would wait for me here till the sunset every day. But they apparently didn’t came here today. It seemed that I had no choice but to come to their house. Luckily, I memorized the way to their house when Ivan drove me home at that time. So I thought I could get there without difficulty.

I breathed a sigh of relief when the werewolves’ house came into view after one-and-a-half-hour drive. Pulling the car into their driveway, I unfastened my seatbelt and got out of the car. After that, I walked towards the front door and knocked at it.

“Wait a minute!” Someone shouted from inside the house.

A moment later, Randolph opened the door.

“Rosanne?” He gasped. My sudden arrival apparently took him by surprise.

“Hi Randolph,” I said with a grin.

“Who’s coming, Randolph?” Ivan asked as he was making his way to the front door.

“Why did I smell—” he stopped abruptly when his eyes landed on me.

“Rosanne?” he beamed.

“Ivan!” I approached him and wrapped my arms around him.

He hugged me back and whispered, “I missed you.”

His words startled me. But I couldn’t lie that my feeling was mutual. So I replied, “I missed you too.”

“Rosanne, what brings you here?” inquired Alpha Adolph Wolfgang who just came and joined us at the doorstep.

“I— I— I ran away from the vampire kingdom,” I replied with a stutter.

Randolph gaped. “What?! You ran away?”

I nodded. “Yes. I don’t know where to go, so I decided to come here to ask for your help.”

“You’ve made a right decision, Rosanne. You’re always welcome here,” Alpha Adolph Wolfgang assured me.

“Thank you,” I said.

“How did you get here?” Ivan asked worriedly.

“I came here by car. I stole the car from the palace. I have memorized the way here when you brought me here for the first time, so I had no difficulty in getting here,” I elaborated. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Find_Nøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Come on in! You must be tired after a long drive,” Alpha Adolph said.

“Okay,” I responded.

We were about to enter the house, but Randolph’s question held us back. “Who the hell are they?”

I turned around and found many hooded people emerging from the trees. From their pale complexion, I immediately knew that they were all vampires. But how in the world could these vampires come out in broad daylight?

Suddenly, I remembered Sigmund said that “The older the vampires, the more they get used to the sun.” So I guessed they were elder vampires. That’s why they were tolerant of the sun.

More vampires came out of their hiding places and joined their allies. This house was now completely surrounded by the vampires. We only had a slim chance of escaping now.

Ivan pushed me behind his back, trying to cover me with his muscular body. Scared, I clutched at his arm tightly.

Randolph’s eyes blazed with fury. I gasped when I noticed that his canines and nails lengthened. It seemed that he was going to shift into his wolf form.

I have never seen a werewolf shift before, and to be honest, I felt anxious and a little bit frightened.

Alpha Adolph Wolfgang touched his son on the shoulder and shook his head in disapproval.

Randolph clenched his fists to try to control his emotions.

Alpha Wolfgang moved forward and barked questions, “What the hell are you doing here? What do you want from us?”

None of those vampires answered the alpha’s question. Instead, they parted, and in stepped King Bellamy with Sigmund in tow. To my surprise, Prince Maximilian, King Ignatius, and Jasper also turned up here.

I felt betrayed. I should have known that I couldn’t escape the vampires’ clutches easily. Apparently, they had set a trap for me so that I could lead them to the werewolves’ den.

“Long time no see, Son-in-law,” King Bellamy said with a sneer in his voice.

'Wait! Did he say son-in-law?' I asked myself in disbelief.

'Since King Bellamy only had one daughter, when he mentioned son-in-law, it would only mean my father,' I thought.

'So my father is here right now? He is really alive.' My heart leapt at the fact.

'But where is he? And the most important is, who is he?' I wondered.

I examined the sea of faces in front of me. There’s no way that my father was among those vampires. So if I left the vampires off the list, there would only three people remain. The werewolves.

I was sure that my father was among these three werewolves. But I didn’t know which one he was.

I stared at Randolph. He looked in his early twenties. In fact, maybe he’s just a few years older than me. So it’s impossible that he’s my father.

I turned my gaze at Ivan. He seemed to be in his late twenties or early thirties utmost. So he couldn’t be my father either. Unless he married to my mother in his teens.

Thus, did it mean that my real father was Alpha Adolph Wolfgang? Because he was the only one who was old enough to have a daughter of my age.
