I woke up with a really bad headache. I raised my hand to touch my throbbing head and looked around my surrounding. I was now lying in the bed in my bedroom.

'What happened?' I asked myself while pulling myself into an upright position.

I tried to recall what had happened to me. The last thing I remembered was I tried to commit suicide by jumping out of my bedroom window. But I pulled back at the last minute. However, I lost balance and fell. I screamed for help. Sigmund came to my rescue. But before Sigmund could save me, I fell onto the ground and everything went black.

'I think it’s impossible to survive after I fell from such a great height. But how am I still alive now?' I wondered in bewilderment.

Apart from the headache, I didn’t feel any pain in other parts of my body. It seemed that I didn’t have any broken bones either. And when I threw back the covers, I also didn’t see any cuts or grazes in my arms and legs.

'How could I survive without a scratch? It’s as if that I have never fallen from such a great height,' I thought confusedly.

“Ah you’re finally awake,” someone said.

I turned my head to the direction of the voice and found Sigmund standing in the doorway. He approached me and stood beside my bed.

“How are you feeling?” He inquired.

“My head hurts, but besides that, I’m fine,” I answered.

“Good!” He exclaimed.

“Now, I want you explain to me what happened the other night! Why were you hanging outside your window like that?” he demanded.

“I...I...,” I hesitated whether I should tell him the truth or not. But I knew it’s no use lying to him because sooner or later he would surely figure it out. So I decided to be honest with him. “I intended to jump out of the window, but I—”

Before I could finish my sentence, Sigmund reprimanded me, “Are you out of your tiny mind, Princess? Why did you jump out of the window like that? You know, you could have died if it’s not for King Bellamy who saved your life.”

“Wait! King Bellamy saved me?” I asked in astonishment.

“Yes, King Bellamy gave you a few drops of his blood. That’s why you’re still alive now,” he explained.

'I don’t understand. King Bellamy wants to kill me and makes me as a human sacrifice, right? But why did he save my life? He must be planning something. But I won’t fall for his trick easily,' I thought.

“He should have let me die. Why bother saving my life when at the end he only wants to kill me again?” I grumbled.

“What are you talking about?” Sigmund queried. Confusion was written all over his face. But I knew for sure that it was only an act.

“Don’t act dumb! I have known what you’re up to on my seventeen birthday. You’re going to sacrifice me on that night, right?” I accused.

Sigmund burst out laughing. “Sacrifice you? Who’s been putting such ridiculous idea into your head?”

'Ridiculous? So the idea of me being killed as a sacrifice is really funny for them?' I thought angrily.

I was about to give him a retort, but Sigmund cut me in, “Wait! Don’t tell me! I think I already knew who has told you the ridiculous idea. You must hear it from the werewolves, right?”

“Yes, the werewolves have revealed your evil plan to me,” I admitted.

“Look! Whatever they have told you, it’s not true, okay?” Sigmund tried to convince me.

His statement angered me. “So you accused them of lying?

“I didn’t accuse them; they indeed lied to you, Princess,” he refuted.

“No, you’re the one who told me lies, not them,” I insisted.

“We have never told you lies, okay? What’s the point of lying to you?” he inquired.

“The point is so that you can sacrifice me without me knowing anything about it,” I replied confidently.

Sigmund sighed. “Oh please! Can you stop mentioning about the sacrifice? That’s silly idea! Besides, why do you think we want to sacrifice you?”

“You want to sacrifice me for your immortality, right?” I said.

Sigmund chuckled. “Oh very funny! Vampires are immortal. So we don’t need to sacrifice you for our immortality.”

“If vampires were immortal, how could my mother die?” I asked fiercely.

My question clearly took Sigmund by surprise. There was a long pause before he finally answered, “Okay, maybe vampires aren’t really immortal because we still can die. But if we are careful, we can live for a very long time. That’s the same as immortal, right?”

“But it doesn’t change the fact that you’re trying to sacrifice me,” I scoffed.

“How many times do I have to tell you that we have no intention to sacrifice you?” he yelled frustratedly.

“If you don’t intend to sacrifice me, then what do you want to do to me on my seventeenth birthday?” I queried.

He replied, “You have known that on that day we want you to marry Prince Maximilian.”

“But why does it have to be done on my seventeenth birthday, why not on another day?” I demanded.

He explained, “Because exactly on your seventeenth birthday, your vampire power will be active. So it will be the best time for you to marry Prince Maximilian and—”

“And then what?” I butted in, “You’re gonna transform me into a full-vampire?”

Before Sigmund had a chance to answer, I interrupted again, “I wasn’t born yesterday, you know. I know that because I am a half-blood vampire, you can never turn me into a full vampire.”

“Okay, you’re right. We can’t turn a half-blood vampire into a full-vampire,” he admitted, “But just because we can’t transform you in to a full-vampire it doesn’t mean that we are going to sacrifice you.”

'I hate to admit it, but he's right. I don’t have any proof that they’re going to kill me as a sacrifice,' I thought.

'I don’t know who to trust right now. Shall I trust Sigmund who said that the vampires had no intention to sacrifice me? Or shall I trust my father and the werewolves who told me about the sacrifice that the vampires are planning?' I asked myself.

'I think it’s no way that my father lied to me. But it’s also not impossible that Sigmund told me the truth. Before I find out who the true liar is, I’d better not to trust anyone now,' I decided.

“Whether you’re going to sacrifice me or not, I don’t want to marry Maximilian in my seventeenth birthday,” I emphasized.

“You don’t have much choice, Princess. Since Princess Claribelle is dead, you become the only heir to the throne. But because you’re a half-blood vampire, you can’t be a vampire queen unless you marry a royal pureblood vampire. That’s why King Bellamy insists that you must marry Prince Maximilian, so you can be a vampire queen and rule beside him,” Sigmund elaborated.

“But I don’t want to be a vampire queen. I just want to be an ordinary human,” I protested.

“The fact is you’re not a human; you’re a half-blood vampire, remember?” Sigmund reminded me.

I knew I would never win the argument with Sigmund. That’s why I decided to cease it soon.

“Enough! I don’t want to argue with you anymore, Sigmund. I am tired. I want to take a rest now.” I lay back down on the bed and pulled the covers up to my neck.

“You’re right. You’d better get some rest now because you have a big day ahead of you tomorrow,” Sigmund said.

I furrowed my eyebrows. “What’s wrong with tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow is your wedding day. Do you forget it?” Sigmund replied.

I sat up, startled. “What? My wedding? But it’s supposed to be next week, right?”

Sigmund shook his head. “No, it’s tomorrow.”

“Why did King Bellamy hasten the date of my wedding? I thought he wanted it to be held on my seventeenth birthday,” I complained.

“His Majesty didn’t hasten it. Your birthday is the day after tomorrow. So your wedding is tomorrow night,” he elaborated.

His explanation made me confused. “How could it be? I remember clearly that yesterday there was still a week left until my wedding day. But why today do you say that my wedding is tomorrow?”

“Yesterday? You mean the day you tried to jump out of the window?” he asked me back instead.

I only replied him with a nod.

“Oh it wasn’t yesterday. After you fell, you were unconscious for six days,” he said.

I gaped. “So I was out for the whole six days?”

“Yes.” Sigmund nodded his head. “You had a sever concussion and you also got several broken bones due to the fall that’s why you’re out for such a long time.”

I frowned. “Broken bones? But I don’t feel I have a broken bone now.”

“I told you it’s because King Bellamy gave you his blood. You know, vampire’s blood can heal any wound. Normally, it only needs a few hours for a vampire to heal themselves, but because you’re only a half-blood vampire it takes longer than ordinary vampires,” he explained.

“S—so my wedding is really tomorrow?” I wanted to make it sure one more time. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Yes,” Sigmund answered firmly.

I ran my hands through my hair frustratedly. 'Oh my God, what shall I do now? My wedding is tomorrow and nothing I can do to stop it.'

'If the werewolves were right about the sacrifice, I would be dead tomorrow. And even if Sigmund told me the truth that the vampires had no intention to sacrifice me, I still would be in trouble. Because it means that I will be stuck in the vampire world for the rest of my life,' I thought.

'NOOOOOO!!!' I screamed mentally.

I was pulled out of my trance when Sigmund waved his hand in front of my face.

“Are you all right, Princess? Why did you suddenly become so quiet?” he asked worriedly.

“I’m fine,” I answered before laying down on the bed again, “I’m just tired. Can you leave me alone now so that I can get some sleep?”

“Sure. I’ll be right outside if you need anything,” Sigmund said.

“Okay,” I responded as I closed my eyes.

Not long after that, I heard footsteps walking away and then the sound of the door being closed.

When I was sure I was alone in my room, I opened my eyes again.

'No matter what happens, I have to find a way to escape from here. I don’t want to be trapped in the vampire world all my life,' I decided.
