I was wakened by a knock at the door. Hosting myself up into a sitting position, I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and looked around my surrounding. I frowned when I found myself sitting on the sofa in Xavier’s bedroom.

“How did I end up here? The last thing I remember is I was nodding off outside the meeting room,” I asked myself.

I noticed that Prince Xavier was nowhere to be seen. The closet and bathroom doors were wide open, so I was certain that the vampire prince wasn’t there.

“Where is Xavier going?” I wondered, “Why did he leave me alone in his bedroom? Didn’t he say that I had to stay by his side the whole time? Wait! Does it mean that my so-called punishment is over now?”

There was another knock at the door. Only then I understood that whoever outside the door asked for my permission to enter the room. Thus, I said, “Come in!”

The door opened and a maid walked in with a tray of food. I recognized her as soon as I saw her.

“You’re the maid from yesterday, right?” I wanted to make sure.

“Yes, I am,” she replied with a friendly smile as she sauntered towards me.

“Here, I brought your breakfast,” the maid said, setting a tray down on the coffee table in front of me.

“Thanks.” I gave her a grateful smile.

“You’re welcome,” she responded.

“By the way, what’s your name?” I asked.

“My name is Lucy,” she answered.

I rose to my feet and grasped her hand. “Oh Lucy, thank you very much for not sneaking on me to King Joaquin. If the king finds out, I’ll really catch it!”

Lucy shook her head. “No, Angela, I’m the one who should thank you.”

My eyebrows lifted. “Thank me? Why?”

“Because you have saved me from Mariana. If you didn’t come to help me yesterday, Mariana would have punished me harsher,” she explained.

“There’s no need to thank me, Lucy. To be honest, I did it for my own ends. You know, I hate the way Mariana always criticizes me. Moreover, she always treats people without respect even she doesn’t hesitate to use violence. So I just want to teach her a lesson,” I elaborated.

“No matter what, I still need to thank you for helping me out, Angela. Because of you, I and the others can be free from Mariana, even though it’s only for the time being. You know something? All this time, I and my friends were too frightened to fight back against Mariana. But it was very brave of you to stand up to the bully like her.”

“Well, I have my father to thank for my bravery. You know, my father always taught me not to let anyone bully me, and that I had to fight back against those bullies. He also told me to always stand up for my friends.”

“You have such a great father, Angela,” she spoke in awe.

“Thanks,” I beamed, yet my face soo fell when I remembered about what I had done to Mariana.

“But I feel bad about hurting Mariana, Lucy. I swear it was quite unintentional,” I added sadly.

“Don’t feel sorry for her! It’s not your fault, Angela. All this time, Mariana was rude to everyone at every opportunity. So I think she got her just deserts,” Lucy convinced me.

I huffed. “Yeah, maybe you’re right.”

“Once again, thank you so much, Angela. I don’t know how I can repay you for your kindnesses to me,” Lucy said gratefully.

“Actually, there’s something you can do to return the favour,” I said hesitantly.

“What can I do for you?” she queried enthusiastically.

“Are you sure you want to help me?” I wanted to make sure.

“Yes, I want to help, I really do,” she said, with absolute certitude.

“Okay. Wait a minute please!”

Without waiting for her response, I walked up to Prince Xavier’s desk. He always kept a notepad and ballpoint by the phone for messages. Therefore, I was going to use it to write a letter for Alpha Wolfgang. He was the only one who could help me now because I honestly didn’t know where my father and Randolph were at this moment. I hoped nothing had happened to them, and Dad and Randolph were able to return to Bloodrose Pack safely so that they could read my message too.

I took Xavier’s notepad and tore a sheet of paper from the notepad. Next, I grabbed the ballpoint and then scribbled a message to Alpha Wolfgang. After that, I foraged in the top drawer of the desk for some envelopes. Once I found it, I took an envelope out. I folded the paper up and slipped my letter into the envelope.

I wandered back towards Lucy and handed her my letter. “I would be grateful if you could send this letter to Bloodrose Pack.”

Lucy gave a gasp of horror. “Bloodrose Pack? Why do you want to send this letter to the werewolf’s territory?”

I began my explanation, “I’m sure you’ve heard that I was caught by the soldiers of Nightshade with my werewolf mate, right?”

Lucy nodded her head.

I went on, “My mate comes from Bloodrose Pack. That’s why I want you to deliver this letter there. I write this letter to tell my mate to pick me up as soon as possible.”

“I’m sorry, Angela, but I can’t help you send your letter to that werewolf pack. I’m afraid,” she said regretfully.

“That’s okay, Lucy. But if you can’t send this letter by yourself, do you mind helping me find someone who can deliver this letter to Bloodrose Pack?” I looked pleadingly at her.

She let out a deep sigh. “Even if you offered a very large sums of money, I think no one would be willing to deliver your letter to Bloodrose Pack.”

I frowned. “Why?”

“You know, vampires and werewolves are enemy. We detest each other on sight. So, it would be suicidal to risk going to the werewolf’s territory,” she elaborated.

I slapped my forehead lightly. “Oh yes, I forgot.” I paused before posing another question, “Is it really impossible to find someone who can smuggle out a letter to Bloodrose Pack?”

“Unfortunately, yes,” she answered ruefully.

“What am I going to do now?” I wondered aloud.

I racked my brains, trying to find out another way to send my message to Alpha Wolfgang without having to take risks with other people’s lives. After some time, an idea finally formed in my head.

“If you can’t smuggle a letter to a werewolf pack, can you send my letter to another vampire kingdom?” I enquired hopefully.

She thought for a bit before replying, “I guess I can do it.”

“OK then, please send this letter to Sigmund! He lives in the kingdom of Clanbella. Tell Sigmund it’s from Mirabelle!” I requested.

A confused look crossed her face. “Mirabelle?”

I hastened to explain, “It’s my real name.”

To be honest, I didn’t know which one my real name was—Rosangela or Mirabelle. Please remind me to ask my father about it later!

“Okay, I understand. I’m going to deliver your letter to the kingdom of Clanbella on my day off,” Lucy promised.

A smile spread across my face. “Thanks for your help, Lucy.”

Lucy smiled back. “Never mind.”

“And Lucy, I would be most grateful if you would keep this matter confidential,” I requested.

“Don’t worry! Your secret is safe with me, Angela. I will make sure that no one finds out about this,” she reassured me.

“Thanks again, Lucy.”

“Sure, anytime.”
