Royal Meets Rogue
Chapter 11: The Intruder

Athena

“So I was thinking that we could go to a movie?” Hecate said unsurely as she grabbed the box of Cheerios. “I remember you telling me you weren’t allowed to watch movies and I want you to be able to experience more things.”

“I would love too.” I smiled. “When did you want to go?”

“What about tomorrow night? It’s bring your own bucket night.”

“Yes!” I exclaimed excitedly.

“Sweet.” She laughed. “Did you want to see a scary movie or a comedy? Or something else?”

I placed my head on my chin and thought about it for a second.

I wonder what types of movies she likes. I don’t want to make her sit through a movie that she might enjoy.

“Well from the little that I’ve seen, I really do enjoy horror movies. But I’m willing to watch whatever sounds good.” I said.

“I am so glad you said that.” She laughed. “I love horror movies too. It’s hard finding someone else who enjoys them just as much as I do.”

Oh, thank the Lord Almighty!

I sighed in relief. “I’m not much for romantic movies.”

“I’ll tell you a secret.” She laughed as she leaned in closer. “I’m not either.”

I went to go say something, but a loud crash cut me off.

“What was that?” I asked as I looked over at Hecate.

“I-I don’t know.” She mumbled. “Maybe it was a deer that got into the greenhouse.”

She stood up and I quickly followed her.

“Wait.” I said quickly as I grabbed her arm.

“Do you smell something?” She asked.

I growled lowly and made a disgusted face. “Rogue.”

Hecate’s facial expression turned dark. “Stay here.”

She ran up the stairs and I heard her start to rummage around for something. She came back downstairs after a couple of minutes holding a gun.

“Silver bullets.” She explained as she saw my confused face.

“Ohh.” I drawled out.

“Go grab a potion and drink it.”

“We won’t have time.” I told her. “If it’s a rogue, we need to take care of that. I’ll be fine.”

“Fine, stay close.” She said quietly as she grabbed the handle. “I don’t want you to get hurt.”

Don’t have to tell me twice.

‘Are you ready?’ I asked Artemis.

‘You know it.’ She growled back.

Hecate turned around and gave me the look.

I nodded, telling her I was ready, and she slowly turned the door handle.

She whipped the door open and raised her shotgun.

Hecate carefully stepped outside and scanned the area.

“It smells like they are by the garage.” I said as I pointed over in that area.

As we carefully made our way over there, a man came out from behind a tree. We all screamed as he looked at us.

“Dude!” He yelled as he clutched his heart. “Warn a guy next time, would you?”

“Speak for yourself!” I yelled back as I tried to control my breathing. “You should really learn to announce yourself better.”

“And this is my land!” Hecate defended. “I don’t need to announce myself.”

The man just rolled his eyes, before he gave me a look.

I gulped as I watched him studying me.

‘You should have drunk the potion. I think it’s starting to wear off.’

‘Yeah, I would say so.’ I agreed as he gave me a small growl.

He cleared his throat and looked away. He must think that Hecate is a human and doesn’t know about werewolves.

“Oh, honey.” Hecate laughed as she clutched her gun harder. “I know you’re a rogue.”

The man looked shocked. “H-How?”

“Long story.” She shrugged before raising her gun. “Now give me one damn good reason I shouldn’t blow your brains out for stepping foot on my land.”

The man gasped as Hecate shoved the gun right up against his nose. “I-I.”

“You what?” Hecate asked threateningly before applying more pressure to his nose.

“I-I’m just passing t-through! Honest!” He stammered with his hands up in the air. “I-It’s the one place h-he doesn’t come.”

“Who?” I asked as I looked at Hecate.

“No one.” She said quickly.

“Y-You don’t know?” The man asked as his eyes darted to me.

“Who?” I asked again.

Hecate sighed and lowered her gun. “Fine. But hurry up and get out of here.”

“Who!” I yelled getting annoyed.

Why is no one answering me?

“How do you not know?” The guy asked rubbing his nose. “He’s only the-”

“Biggest hunter in the area.” Hecate growled out as she glared at the man before turning back to me. “I didn’t want to tell you because I didn’t want you to worry.”

“You could have just told me.” I said.

Hecate sighed. “I know. But I told you I was going to keep you safe and I intend to do that.”

“Right.” The man said unsurely as he looked between us both. “Well anyway. It was nice meeting you two, but I’m going to get going.”

“You better do that.” Hecate spat as she looked at him.

“I’m going. Don’t worry.” He said harshly as he turned around and ran.

“Great. Now I got rogues on my land.” Hecate mumbled to herself. “I have to take care of something.”

“Okay?” I said questionably as we walked back into the house.

I watched Hecate glare at her phone before picking it up, dial a number, and walk upstairs.

‘What was that about?’ Artemis asked.

I jumped as she slammed her door.

‘I don’t know.’ I mumbled as I stared at the stairwell. ‘Why didn’t she tell me?’

‘She did say that she wanted to keep you safe. So maybe she was worried about what would happen if she told you.’

‘I get that, but still. Wouldn’t you want to warn someone about a hunter that lives in the area? Especially if that person you are protecting is a werewolf.’

‘But you could argue that telling you could have been more dangerous.’

‘How so?’ I asked. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

‘If she would have told you, you might now have left the house which would make it very suspicious. Also, your guard would be up and you would be constantly looking over your shoulder making that very suspicious as well. So without her telling you, you freely left the house and you looked very relaxed as if you really are human. If the hunter ever did see you, they would have thought that you were just a normal human being because you weren’t so paranoid.’ Artemis explained.

‘I hate when you’re right.’ I growled.

‘You might have told me that once or twice.’ She laughed.

I rolled my eyes but stopped once I saw Hecate walk back down the stairs.

“Everything okay?” I asked.

“Yes.” She smiled. “I just had to talk to a friend.”

I nodded. “Sounds good. But it’s pretty late, so I think I’m going to hit the hay.”

“That sounds like a pretty good idea to me.” Hecate laughed as she let out a yawn. “I’m about to fall asleep.”

“Good night.” I smiled as I walked past her and went up the stairs.

I think tomorrow I’m going to do a little research and see if I can find this hunter.

“What do you mean he got away?” I growled as Jason instantly dropped his head.

“I-I’m sorry my King.” He apologized with a shaking voice.

“You had one job!”

“I know sir.” He sighed. “We had his scent, but then we lost it.”

I growled in annoyance as my phone started to ring.

“Fine. Just go find him.” I snapped.

“Yes, my King.” He bowed before running out of my office.

“Hello?” I asked as I rubbed my forehead.

“Wow. What a lovely tone to be greeted with.” Her voice laughed.

I chuckled. “I’m sorry.”

“I was calling to let you know that I had a lovely visitor about ten minutes ago.”

“Who?” I asked confused.

“Don’t know his name. He was a rogue.”

I growled as I slammed my fist on the desk. “Of course.”

“I’m guessing you’ve been having some trouble with them?”

“You could say that.” I mumbled. “They have been breaking through my patrol and I don’t know how.”

“You’re the Alpha King aren’t you? Isn’t it your job to know?” She asked laughing.

“Why are you always so sassy?” I laughed as I leaned back in my chair.

“Someone has to keep you on your toes.”

“Gee thanks.” I scoffed.

“You are quite welcome.”

“But really, thank you for the information Hecate.” I said sincerely. “Maybe I can come down tomorrow and we can talk.”

“No!” She yelled quickly. A little too quickly.

“What? Why?” I asked confused.

“Um I-I won’t be home.”

“Then I can just come over another time.”

“That won’t work either.”

“Are you okay?” I asked worriedly. “Did something happen?”

“No. I just have to take a trip and I won’t be home for a while.”

“Oh?” I hummed. “Well safe travels.”

“Thank you.” She said quietly.

‘Why do I get the feeling she’s lying?’ Zeus asked.

“Where are you going?” I asked.

“Out of town.”

“Where?” I pressed.

“Personal business.”

“Do you have a date?”

“That is none of your business!” She laughed.

“Ooh la la.” I teased. “Get it Hecate.”

“Oh hush it.” She laughed harder.

“Well have fun and be safe.”

“Don’t worry. I will be.”

“Good.” I smiled. “I’ll talk to you later.”

“Bye dear.”

I pulled the phone away from my ear and ended the call.

‘He better be nice to her.’ Zeus growled.

‘Oh trust me. I’m going to be meeting this guy whether she likes it or not.’

‘Good.’ Zeus said. ‘Can we scare him?’

‘Not too bad.’ I joked.

‘Works for me.’ Zeus laughed.
