~Kyle~

I sat with Levi in my lap rocking him back and forth against the far side of the wall. His face was buried in my neck as I stared at the motionless body across the room.

What do we do?

How do we get out of this?

All I know is that I had to protect Levi; I’d do anything I had to but where do we start? I knew it was bad that we had a dead body in the living room. We had to rid of it but how; that’s when the beeping started. I frowned glancing around the room trying to locate the sound but when I glanced back at the body I realized it was coming from him. I reluctantly stood and laid Levi on the couch. I trudged over to Matt, his eyes open staring into nothing, there was no light in them what’s so every. Swallowing I knelt next to him and started to move his clothes trying to find the incessant beeping.

“What are you doing?” Levi’s voice rough from crying came from across the room.

“I keep hearing a beeping sound.” I said unbuckling his vest.

“Beeping?” Levi’s footsteps sounded behind me as he walked forward and knelt behind me a little. I opened the vest to see a small blinking screen built in on the inside of the vest. There as a green line that went round and round in circles on it.

“What is that?” I asked curiously. Levi didn’t answer me so I glanced behind my shoulder to see him staring at the thing with wide eyes. “Levi?” he opened his mouth but nothing came out.

“Levi!” I pushed causing him to blink but the moment he looked at me I felt dread seep into my body. “What?” I asked softly.

“It’s a radar.” He whispered.

I looked at it again and noticed on dot on the tiny screen and pointed to it.

“And this?” Levi shot to his feet suddenly.

“We have to go, now!” he exclaimed running down the hall. I glimpsed at the screen for a second before jumping to my feet and racing after him. He was threw on some clothes when I reached the room. I noticed he had a pillow case on the bed and was filling it up as well.

“What, what’s going on!” I cried. Levi was scaring the hell out of me at the way he was acting like this.

“We have to leave Kyle, get a pillow case and fill it with anything you might need and hurry!” he rushed around and I did as he said without another word. We stuffed the bags full of clothes and hurriedly zipped them up and I followed him as he ran down the hall. He snatched up his car keys but froze when he came into the living room. He turned to me and thrust his bag and keys in my arms.

“Take these to my car” he ordered as he turned to Matt slowly before grabbing his arms and dragging him towards the bedroom. I quickly found Levi’s car and threw the bags in the backseat quickly running back inside. Levi was dashed out of the bedroom when I came in.

“Let’s go, give me the keys.” I threw them to him as he rushed out the door. I saw Lakota coming stand beside me, I have forgot about him though all the commotion.

“Go with Levi” I told him and he ran out to follow him. I sighed glancing around the living room for a second and turned to leave before I spotted my yellow envelope on the table and snatched it up. I couldn’t forget that. I raced out to Levi’s car as he had it running and revving it. The moment my butt touched the seat he peeled out onto the streets. Lakota whimpered as he was jarred into the backseat.

“Can you please tell me what is happening now?!” I exclaimed grabbing at the door handle as I was forced back in the seat. I snatched the seatbelt and hastily buckled myself in.

“That thing in Matt’s vest was called a radar tracker, if we stayed there any longer we would have had very unwelcome guest banging in our door.” Levi explained his eyes mainly on the road as he swerved to and fro.

“Ok so what now, where are we going?” I huffed all out of air.

“I don’t know” his voice broke and I snapped my head to look at him. He was scanning the area around us and in the review mirror constantly but I could see the turmoil in his eyes surfacing. I was trying to think of anywhere we can go I didn’t know the city well enough to choose a place to stay; the only one I knew of was…

“Go to Pope’s” I suddenly said. I knew he might help us, he had warned me that people would try and kill me for what I was. Levi glanced at me with a sneer.

“Why the hell would I go there” he growled.

“He can probably help us, it’s not like we have any other options here.” I snapped. Levi was silent for a while before he cursed under his breath and made a very sharp turn. Lakota yelp once again as he slammed into the side of the car this time. I grimaced glancing back at him, he look pissed.

The morning light was filling the sky and shining through Levi’s windshield as we raced down the empty streets. I realized that neither Levi or I had slept at all, everything was so hectic and crazy, and to think it all started because of me. I stared out the window to see us driving through a woodland type area, nothing but trees.

Levi finally slowed his car turning into a dirt road, pulling up to a giant house. The house was hidden well in the dense forest that it would have be very hard for just any one to find. Levi stepped slowly out of the car and he was suddenly swarmed by huge wolves. I gasped shrinking back in my seat as I stared out the window.

They were huge, these wolves head were almost up to Levi’ chest. He turned to me and jerked his head for me to get out. My heart was beating as I gradually opened the car door and stepped out on the dirt road. The rocks crunched under my feet as I walked beside Levi, Lakota right behind me baring his teeth at anyone who moved close to me.

“Where’s Pope?” Levi asked but no one moved. Levi cupped his hands to his mouth,

“Pope!” he yelled causing the surrounding wolves to growl and snarl at us. I jerked back in fright as they lurched forward in warning.

Gratefully I heard the front door open as Pope finally made an appearance. He scanned over both me and Levi and a smile spread on his face.

“Well, well, well, I said come visit ‘sometime’ not the next day Kyle” Pope snickered as he walked down his porch stepped. We were both distraught and I could feel Levis distress and hysteria coming on again and all my fear of the wolves around us disappeared.

“We need your help” I said feeling a strength I didn’t know I had at the moment.

“Oh, and what would that be.” He asked coming to stand in front of me. I glanced at Levi who was starting to shake.

“Remember what I told you last night” I said to him and he nodded.

“Of course”

“Well that guy I told you about in the restaurant… he came at me with a gun this morning” I rushed out. Pope’s smiled dropped from his face as it took on a serious expression.

“A gun” he repeated and I nodded. “Where is he now?” he demanded looking around for a threat, he wouldn’t find one.

“He’s… dead” I stuttered, I saw Levi flinched at my words.

“Well what do you need me for, to stash the body?” he frowned. I shook my head,

“He had on some beeping vest, and when I checked it I seen what Levi called a radar tracker or something like that.” Pope snapped his head to Levi and glared at him.

“Was he a-” Levi nodded.

“Yes, he was a hunter” his voice broke and Pope cured. He looked at the wolves and ordered them to scout the area.

“Come inside” he demanded and ushered us inside.

We walked into a large spacious living room with immaculately waxed tile floors, the sun shone it to make the yellowish colored tile shine like gold. There was a giant flat screen next to a stone fireplace. The enormous open kitchen could be seen from the living room as we walked in. The walls were made up of large wooden logs, long tan leather couches and a dark recliner sat in the middle of the room angled at the TV.

I saw a couple of people lounging on the couches and floors watching a game on the television. But the moment we walked in they shot to their feet practically standing at attention.

“Alpha” they all said. He waved them off with his hand.

“I need the room” and with that they all nodded and left quickly.

Levi stood close to me as we stood in front of the couch; Pope watched them all leave before looking back at me.

“Alright, tell me everything.” He said. I heard Levi shrieked in anger,

“There isn’t much to tell Pope! He was a damn hunter and now they’ll know who I am when they find his dead body IN MY APARTMENT!” he exclaimed. I reached out placing a calming hand on his shoulder and he settled down. He turned into me suddenly buried his face in my neck holding me close and there was nothing I could do but wrap him in my arms. He was so warm but his body was shaking like a leaf and my heart went out to him.

Pope sighed causing me to looking up at him,

“Alright I’ve got to make a few calls for reinforcements and then we can take these hunters down, there on my territory anyway.”

“No!” Levi yelled jerking away from me and stared wide eyed at Pope. “I will not be responsible for more deaths.” He was shaking his head vigorously and began to pace. “This is my fault, I just- I just need to get out of here” I frowned grabbing his arm so he could face me.

“What are you say?” a sort of panic was leaking into me from his words.

“I’m saying that I need to get in my car and drive far away from here. Somewhere that they won’t find me.” he said.

“Your not going alone Levi, I’m with you on whatever you decide.” He shook his head.

“No, they don’t know about you Kyle, they don’t know who you are but me they’ll know who I am when they go through my stuff. It’s better if you go back to Portland, back to the Blue Moon Pack you’ll be safe there. Your family will protect you.” I felt like he was ripping me apart with every word. Something inside me was whining and clawing to get out, to keep Levi close and I agreed, there was no way I was leaving him.

‘Not again’ something said and I paused in shock. Blinking I shook it off and gripped his shoulders in my hands so he could look at me.

“We are sticking together, plus if Matt thought I was the only one that was a monster wouldn’t that mean the rest of them know too? They will be looking for me as well.” I tried to reason. Pope intervened then.

“He’s rights Levi; Matt would have informed them before his mission and they all will be search for Kyle thinking he was the one who did this.” I nodded desperately trying to make him see that I was not going to be separated from him. I somehow deep inside knew what it felt like and I wasn’t going to go through it again.

Levi’s eyes were shining as he furrowed his brows at me with unease before sighing in defeat.

“Fine, but we must hurry. We have to leave LA today” he stressed.

“Ok but where are we going.” I asked questionably.

“What’s going on?!” a voice sounded and I spun around to see a blonde woman standing on the bottom of a stair case.

“Lola?” Levi said in confusion.

“Levi?” she walked across to us to stand by Pope who sighed.

“What are you doing down here I told you to stay” he growled in annoyance.

“Do I look like a f*cking dog to you Pope, no that’s you.” she snapped. Pope glared at her his eyes seeping to that creepy gold color.

“What the hell are you doing here Lola!” Levi exclaimed and she shrugged.

“I’ve been stuck with mister fluffy tail over here all morning.” she pointed her thumb at Pope.

“You know about us?” Levi was in total awe.

“Yeah, it turns out I’m fluffy tails mate, whatever that is.” Lola grumbled.

“Well if you would just listen for once in your life then maybe you wouldn’t be have these learning problems.” Pope growled.

“Maybe I don’t want to hear it” she snapped back. Lola shook her head and turned back to us. “Anyway what’s this I hear about a hunter, you killed him? Who was it?” I watched Levi’s eyes saddened at the mention of Matt. Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Matt was the hunter, he would have killed me if it weren’t for Levi” I quickly said so Levi wouldn’t have to say anything. Lola gasped cupping her mouth with a cry. Instantly Pope consoled her, holding her to him tightly.

“No” she cried.

It was silent for a while as I stood awkwardly waiting for Levi to make a move knowing I would be right behind him every step of the way.

“Alright, it’s dangerous for us to stay here any longer so we’re going to go” Levi whispered shakily. Pope nodded,

“I understand, good luck you guys” the whole atmosphere was so melancholy it weighed on me hard knowing it was twice as hard for Levi.

Levi and I rushed out of the house with Pope and Lola behind us; I opened the door for Lakota who had stayed outside and quickly he jumped in the back.

“Levi” Pope called as Levi was just about to close his car door. “Here” he handed him a wad of money.

“I know it’s not much but it will help you for a while k” Levi hesitated before taking it.

“Thank you” he muttered staring down at the hand with the money.

“Just go” Pope ushered. Lola rushed forward and hugged Levi tightly.

“Be careful and watch your back” she cried softly.

“I will” and with a sad smile he started the engine and tore out of the drive way, out of the forest and onto the road. Buildings and people were all a blur as we rushed out of town, out of the city, away from the life we knew and into a life of the unknown, on the run.
