Sasha

Age 10

A loud clap of thunder rattles my window waking me up. Which sucks, I had just fallen asleep. Today my parents took me to a carnival for my tenth birthday. It was the best day of my life. I ate too many sugary foods according to my mom and I got to ride my very first roller-coaster.

But Mom was right. It was too much sugar and now I doubt I can fall back asleep. I decide to go check on my parents. Entering Dad's office I see them both. Dad clicks away on his computer and Mom is beside him pretending to be interested. Dad is a computer analyst while Mom is some sort of botanist. Neither mix together.

Soon as I enter the room our house security alarm goes off ringing loudly. My first thought is intruders. Who would break into our house? Mom and Dad exchange a worried look and hurry me into their closet. The closet had been turned into a safe room but I'm not sure why. Still, I wonder if all families have safe rooms or just us.

As I hide inside my dad kisses my forehead and tells me not to leave no matter what. My mom hugs me and tells me she loves me and to be brave. I am ten and so confused. Why aren't they joining me? Who is here? Within seconds of my parents closing the door, they entered.

"Mom? Dad?" I pout.

Then I hear it, a blood-curdling scream. Looking through the peek hole I see my parents face down on the floor covered in blood. A scream comes out and I quickly cover my mouth as tears roll down my cheeks.

I try to study their faces through the small hole in the wall. The faces of the people who killed my parents. The people who made me an orphan. The woman sniffs the air and then turns her head in my direction. My heart starts to race. Did she hear me? But that’s when I see another side of the woman.

Her eyes are red like her long curly hair and worse of all she has fangs. Long fangs covered in blood, She's a monster. A monster I never knew was real, a vampire.
