Secret Lure of a Cat Demon
Walking is a B****

When I woke, I didn’t open my eyes. I was afraid to. Night mares were something I had frequently. They were sometimes so real that I didn’t know whether I had gone back in time or not. I took a deep breath. The constant pain on my stomach became worse. I now knew where I was and what had happened. I smiled. He was nice to me, I thought. I opened my eyes and sat up. Something hit my leg. I froze. I looked behind me. Zev lay asleep with out a top, his arm draped over me. Was there something I had forgotten? I didn’t think there had. I smiled and lay back down. I turned to face Zev, my stomach twitching in pain. The bleeding had stopped now. Maybe I wouldn’t need a medic after all. I smiled. I pulled my hand up and placed my index finger on Zev’s nose. I pressed on it. He didn’t move. It normally worked on others.

Then I spotted his ear, so I took hold of it and pulled as hard as I could. He eyes pinged open full of annoyance.

“Good morning” He closed his eyes again and I sighed. I snuggled in closer to him. I’m not sure why. I sort of enjoyed being like this. He growled and I leant back and winked. “What is wrong? Too close for comfort? I think that went out last night don’t you think?” I said. He frowned at me. He had a worse memory than mine. He didn’t move or say anything but then suddenly after a couple minutes of thinking about it, he jumped back out of range.

“How?” he questioned. I shrugged. He growled at me and I just smiled. “This never happened okay? Nothing between us has changed, alright” I nodded.

“If you say so” I muttered. I wanted to giggle. He was embarrassed. I found I quite cosy if I did say my self. Zev stamped out the last of the embers that were left from the fire then looked at me.

“Can you walk?” he questioned. I glared him.

“Can I walk? What a stupid question. Of course I can walk” I got to my feet and stretched. It hurt a little and I knew what had healed had just split again. I rolled my eyes away from Zev. I tried not to wince as I strode forwards.

We took it slow as I insisted on it, if we walked too fast I would have ripped out Zev’s heart. He walked behind me. He didn’t want to walk up front thinking I might fall behind. He wanted to get as fast as possible so we could get me checked out. According to him, he was responsible for me and my health. I quite rightly think my health is mine, not his.

It took us a couple more hours to get back to the fort. The doors were open and people were waiting there for us. By that time I was nearly keeling over in pain. My hand was on my tummy and when I took it away it was covered in blood. I looked at my top. It was darker than it was this morning. I looked at Zev and smiled. I showed him my hand.

“Walking, it is a bugger” I told him and I fell to the floor. Before I knew it I was on a bed comfortable, people were talking fast, looking at me, talking to me. They were trying to keep me awake. I felt bad, I was reckless and I didn’t think of other packs out there. Zev would get it, and I would be here longer than I really wanted.

Everything was a bit of a blur. I didn’t know what they were doing. I saw bright lights, that I guessed, were the infirmary. They were pretty lights. I giggled and I blacked out.

I woke up a lot later. It was dark. I sat up wincing in pain. I wasn’t in my bed, and everything seemed white. From that I knew I was in the infirmary. No one was around. I laid back down and curled up. Why did no one care? I thought. The least Zev could do was sit there waiting for me. Then I heard foot steps. I looked behind me and I saw a woman in a dress. She wore a white apron. She walked over to me and turned on the light. She then saw I was awake.

“Oh Miss Torres, you are awake, I’ll let someone know.” I nodded at her words. So no one had come to see me, how nice to know I was cared about. “How are you feeling?” the nurse asked me.

“I’m in pain, and I’m annoyed,” I told her. She just smiled.

“That’s good,” she told me. I cocked my head. I moved onto my back.

“How is that good?” I asked her. She smiled.

“Master Zev said the minute you say you are angry or annoyed you are back to normal. Given you have been asleep for two days shows you are healing well. The ointment must have knocked you out.” I blinked.

“Zev has been here?” I asked. She nodded at me.

“He hasn’t left, but I told him to eat something and get some sleep. I told him I would stay here with you.” She placed a drink on the table next to my bed and smiled. “I’ll let some one know how you are,” she told me and left. I sat there looking in front of me. Zev had been here with me all along. He told me he didn’t care, or that nothing had changed between us in the woods. Was he lying?

The nurse came back after a while, with the queen behind her. She talked to me and asked what had happened. I told her everything that I remembered. It was hard to know when you are bleeding. She seemed worried but when she left I felt alone. There was no one else there and Zev never came back after that.

Was he scared of what I might say or maybe he didn’t want to show me he cared. The lord of the guard was never meant to show much emotion towards the oposite sex, it showed weakness.

A day later, I was allowed to leave. The nurse specified I didn’t do anything strenuous other wise I would inhibit the healing process. I understood but would Zev and the rest of the people in here. As I was walking back to my room for more rest or a bath I bumped into a few people. They smiled and asked how I was. I nodded and told them I was good. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Find_Nøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Just as I rounded the corner to my room I literally bumped into someone. I nearly fell to the floor but they caught me and steadied me.

“Woah, are you OK?” A voice said. And English voice but it wasn’t like Zev’s or anyone else’s. I looked up and saw the cheeky grin of Gur. I smiled back and nodded.

“Yeah, I am OK, thank you,” I said. It was the truth. Maybe in a little pain but better.

“Have you been to see Zev?” He asked me. I shook my head.

“No, I only just got out the infirmary.” I told him. He nodded understanding. “Why?” I asked curious.

“He wants to talk to you from what I can gather. He wants to talk to you about the revamp in your training and about what happened in the woods. And-”

“You know what happened?!” I nearly screamed at him. He frowned.

“I was there.” he said. I was now very confused. “During the fight” he finished off. It then dawned on me that Zev hadn’t told him about what happened when we rested.

“Any way, he wants to talk to you, and I think you should say thank you. He never left your side until yesterday, then when you stirred he left, and never went back. I think he has been doing some serious thinking over the last couple of days.” he took my hand and kissed it. His words were soft and gentle and had meaning. They wanted me to go and help, sort out what ever was on Zev’s mind.

Gur left and I walked down the corridor. I got to my door and went to open to door but then I looked up. I looked at Zev’s door that I could just about see. What should I do? Talk to him? He didn’t even like me so why should I even bother. I sighed. I left my door and walked to his. I looked at it. There was silence and yet there was a voice beckoning me to go in. What if I did and he was naked? What if I did and he was and I stared? That would be awkward. The best thing to do would be knock. So I did.
