Secret Lure of a Cat Demon
Not So Kind After All

The minute I saw her with ‘The Bozo’ in the dining hall I nearly let all my anger go and challenged the guy. She was smiling and enjoying his company which is more that I could say for me. She never smiled for me. Was I jealous? Yes, maybe. Why? Who knew but I felt like I had to do something. She was luring me in. Her innocence, her charm, her attitude towards everything wanted me to get to know her. She didn’t know it but she played hard to get and when cats played hard to get, played the bad girl everyone noticed them. It was how they worked. It was the best way to lure in a mate. Play innocent then play hard to get.

Katsi worked in the same way.

I stared there for a little bit and then she saw me. Her eyes caught mine. The deepness of the green that I saw was immense. I nearly lost my footing. They were so beautiful. Something I couldn’t mix with. She then broke the contact and looked at the rat. They started talking again then she got up. I thought maybe she was coming over to say something but she didn’t move from her spot. Instead she lifted up her top and rat guys face filled with shock.

I was in no doubt that she had told him a lie. It would get him on her side. She hated me. I decided to leave then. I turned from the hall and walked away. I was fuming. I couldn’t understand why. I didn’t care if she found one of her own kind to screw around with. It was none of my business. I went straight to the room where Katsi and I had been studying. I sat at the desk and I started writing. I wrote notes on the history of the guild, the lord of the guards, the monarchy, everything. All the History of the demon race. I planned on giving it to her. I planned on telling that she needed to read this for I was going to test her. A shock and evil. I smiled to myself and I felt like laughing but I restrained myself.

When I finished I got up and I walked back to the hall. They were still sat there. They were still talking having a good time. How much can one talk each other about? I growled silently and stalked through the hall. Everyone sat there stopped talking and looked at me, with respect or with fear I couldn’t tell. Once I got to their table I stopped Katsi looked up at me and smiled. It was a hello smile. Not the dazzling smile she gave.

“Katsi, I realised that you can’t do any fighting and so I decided to write out all of your history lessons notes.” I dropped the booklet on the table. It it with a thud. I wrote more than I had wanted. “You will learn this and when you have tell me, you will be tested. That means that you can’t fraternise with anyone until you have so.” Her expression darkened. The guy opposite her didn’t say anything. He sensed my anger and he knew not to back chat me.

“Make me” she spat.

“Katsi, don’t start this defiance off with me.” she stood up, almost level with me.

“No, make me do this, make me listen to you.” I frowned. I picked up the writing and I took hold of her wrist. I didn’t tighten so hard as to hurt her. I couldn’t hurt her. I pulled her along. I pulled her to her room. I opened the door pushed her in and followed her.

“Now, here we can talk with out hot head staring at me. Look, you need to do this.” She crossed her arms and looked at the paper.

“Why?” she asked. A stupid question.

“Because I need you to pass on this. I need you to pass the tests, physically you are perfect” I stopped. I don’t know how she took what I said, and I don’t know what I meant when I said it. “Please, that asshole will distract you, you can become something great” I finally finished. This time speaking the truth, speaking with no anger, speaking with...

“Fine, I will do it but don’t you dare decide who I can ‘fraternise’ with and who I can’t. He is nice to me. He understands me when no one else can.” she spat. She took the paper off me and I walked off. I was still mad at her. “Zev, when can I fight again?” she asked me softly. I stopped.

“Next week if you are lucky.” I told her. I had another mission to do as I left Katsi to read through her paper. That guy was to be slaughtered by my own hands. Why? I couldn’t figure it out. I wanted him dead so much, I wanted him to leave Katsi alone. I needed him to leave her alone. For one she was my property.

“Zev?” Said a voice. “You look like you are ready to kill.” They said. It isn’t my mother or Lilith, I thought to my self. I looked towards the voice and when I saw the flowing blonde curls and mysterious blue eyes I forgot everything about Katsi and that guy. A wolf like me, this girl, was the leader of the only female wolf squad in the guard. Carol was an angel in some respect but a devil in others. She could catch someone with just a look and when she first came here I was the one she wanted. And she could still catch me, when ever she wanted.

“Hi, Carol.” I muttered. Did I want to see her now? I didn’t know. Part of me screamed to get out of there but there was something I couldn’t quite understand about Carol that always pulled me in. It was a few hours later when I woke up. It was chilly. The covers only came to my hips. I groaned and sat up. Carol lay next to me, her blonde curls falling over the sheets. Her back was facing me and I groaned again. At least I didn’t have to face my mothers wrath if I had killed someone. I looked out the window and it was dark, but I could tell it was nearing dawn. I got up and pulled my trousers on. I forgot the rest of my clothes as for one I didn’t know where they were and I couldn’t be bothered to find them. I walked out of Carols room and stalked the corridors. I don’t know where I had been going but just walking seemed to calm me down gave me time to think.

Katsi, the main problem. Bozo, the second problem. The seconds problem could be dealt with. He was under my command and if he didn’t listen, I could kick him off. Leopards, I hated them. That is where I went first, I needed to find him. I needed to talk to him, give him a warning to stay away from Katsi.

When I picked up his scent I followed it. I followed it up three flights of stairs down 6 corridors and that was before I stopped with recognition. I knew this fort inside out but I knew my corridor the most and when I stopped three corners from it I cursed. I growled and a few passer byers looked at me strangely. I stalked up the corridors and rounded the last few corners to Katsi’s door. I didn’t bother in listening or knocking, I just walked in. Katsi’s papers were over the floor, her clothes flung every where and she was led on the bed. I cocked my head ignoring the flame and embarrassment and the foolishness of it all, I walked over to the bed and pulled a blanket over Katsi. By this time I was over mad. I scanned Katsi’s body for bruises but there were none meaning she hadn’t resisted mean one of two things. She was raped in her sleep or she had sex with bozo boy. I span around and left at a near ran. I first went to Gur’s room I opened it not caring, I shook him awake and I saw a mess of black. A girl. But Gur sat up and looked at me dreary. He knew I would never wake him unless I needed his help. He nodded and got up. I leant against the wall while he dressed, explaining everything. He nodded understanding what I needed him to do.

I then left and caught the scent of Bozo Boy again. I followed it to the back where there were smaller rooms. For the people, I didn’t like. I kicked the door open and pulled Kieran out of bed. He let out a yelp of surprise but I ignored it. The commotion I had started woke everyone up and they were now following me through the corridors as I pulled Kieran out to the front of the fort. I was going to humiliate him in front of every one and he was going to feel it. I threw him to the floor and I stood there with my arms crossed. People crowed round and I saw my mother push through. She looked annoyed at me. She was still in her bed clothes.

“Zev?” She asked, gritting her teeth. Then I saw the two heads I wanted. Katsi was walking through the crowd and pushed through next to my mum. Gur was with her.

“Zev, what are you doing, you promised me.” My eyes shot at Gur, he didn’t tell her. Why? I then looked down at Kieran.

“Tell them.” I said. He smirked at me and spat at my feet. My mother gasped and so did a few others.

“You’ll never be good enough for her, she hates you.” I tried to ignore his comment. Instead I sighed and asked again.

“Tell them Kieran, instead why don’t you tell them what you did?” he started to laugh. He got to his feet, just his boxers on, and turned around. Gur tensed at the same time as I did. He took small steps towards my mother and Katsi. I started a growl in the deep of my throat. He walked up to her but made no move to do anything. He got right in Katsi’s face and she looked hurt in the eyes. By whom I wouldn’t know but she looked upset as though she knew what had happened.

“I fucked you bitch! In your fucking sleep. I fucked your pathetic ass. It wasn’t very enjoyable.” He sneered. Tears welled in Katsi’s eyes. But then instead of seeing sadness, I saw anger. I saw that she was mad. She had finally snapped, sick of being treated like trash. I had treated her like that. She let a punch go. She punched him over and over until he was leaning over. She then kneed him with all her might. He fell to the floor.

“You,” She kicked him in the stomach, “Are,” and again, “A,” and again, “Fucking asshole” and she kicked him again. “You are a sick bastard.” she pulled him to his knees and she punched him again. “I hate you!” she shouted at him and then her eyes were on me. She was angry and her eyes were like flames. Her pupils were slits. Her left eye brow rose. She was questioning, wanting to know what I had to do with all this. Did I set her up? Did I make him do it? I ignored it.

“Due to the irresponsibility and to ignoring the code of the guard you are here by stripped of your rank and banished from these parts. You either speak, see or hear a guard member, I will know” I then stepped over Kieran and pulled Katsi off by the waist. My touch was tender. I didn’t want to hurt her. She followed me with little resistance. When I passed Gur I gave him a look and he nodded. People moved out the way as I walked towards them. I pulled Katsi inside and I pulled her off to the closest room possible. We needed to talk.
