I knew that no matter what I did I had to get the amulet off before tomorrow or I would have no hope.

Hours past by and I just sat watching her. She moved about but her hand still clenched on to the amulet. Her reasons for holding that were not because of what she said she took it as a comforting object. Was it to help her remember me? She moved again I looked at her hand the way she held it. I stood up and walked over to her. She was limp, her hand unclenched. This was my chance. I slowly reached out for the amulet and I touched it. An electrical power shot at me. I winced but ignored it. The amulet was stronger than I thought it was. I sighed. I reached out again and this time I took hold of the chain. I felt a slight surge but not as much as I thought I would I moved the chain so the amulet would move from her and but as I watched Katsi I realised I knew this wouldn’t work. I tried again though. I moved it more out of her hand and I looked at her face. I pulled it but Katsi’s eyes bolted open. You could see the green shining in the darkness. I was in for it now.

My eyes bolted open and I saw Zev leaning over me. I knew exactly what he was doing. I took hold of him before he could pull away and I pulled over to the side of me. I rolled with him and landed on top of him straddling him. His hand had fallen from my amulet and so it was still safe around my neck. I could see his eyes looking up at me, intent on getting the amulet but he knew I was intent on keeping it.

“Give it to me!” Zev almost shouted at me. I shook my head.

“No, you haven’t given me a reason to give it you, no reason to actually trust you and your history lesson.” I told him. He growled and used his hips to knock me over and then he lay on top of me pinning me to the bed.

“I don’t need to. As your prince you should follow my orders!” He told me. I shook my head.

“No, you are no prince, just a spoilt brat.” I told him. He was so immature. He growled at me and he took both my hands about my head and pinned them there with one hand. When I realised what he was doing I started to thrash about.

He put more pressure on my body keeping me in place. My breathing was harsh and I was exhausted. Zev just looked at me with those intense eyes.

“I hate your eyes.” I told him.

“No you don’t.” he said to me. I was finding it hard to breath. His close proximity made me want to give in to him. Then he chuckled. I frowned up at him. What was he laughing about? “You know you look delicious, I wonder what would happen if I kissed you?” he asked. I glared at him. He wasn’t going to kiss me. Never. I tried thrashing again but it didn’t work. “That is sexy, try again.” He said. I growled at him but he chuckled.

He was amused by this. Yes the situation was interesting, the position was interesting, but I didn’t even like him. He was an asshole. I growled and he wagged his finger at me saying “tut, tut, tut.” I growled again at him. My frustration was what he wanted. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. He wasn’t going to win today. With all my might I yanked my hands from his and I pushed him over. I wanted to get away but Zev pulled me with him. I straddled him again. He just grinned up at me. Zev purposefully caught my eyes with his. My breath hitched at his eyes. They were blue, ice blue. I had never really noticed before. It made me shiver but I didn’t look away.

Zev smirked up at me. “Take the amulet off.” He ordered me. I shook my head. I wasn’t going to do it. He had to be kidding me.

“No,” I told him.

“Katsi,” he warned. I just held his gaze and it was a matter of who would back down first. I blinked and growled. This wasn’t going to work I thought after a couple of minutes. I hauled myself off of Zev and he sat up. My stomach flipped but I ignored it.

“I had your eyes, they are too determined.” I told him.

“So are yours,” He retaliated at me. I growled and he growled back but he wasn’t trying any more. He laughed and shrugged. “It your funeral, night,” He said. I frowned. He was giving up? I watch him closely but he closed it his eyes and I knew he was soon asleep. I huffed and sat on the floor. Asshole.

I closed my eyes and I grinned to myself. She was falling for it. I heard her fall to the floor in a huff. Our little tumble was fun, it took everything I had to not pin her down and kiss her. I knew she wasn’t her self. The amulet was starting to act. By tonight I would be able to get it off her. There was only one way to get it off her but there was another way to save her. Would she take the bait though?

He wasn’t sleeping. I heard him chuckle. This was making me mad. I sat there. He sat up and looked down at me.

“Do you love me?” he asked me. I looked at him wide eyed. Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FɪndNøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Excuse me?” I asked still stunned at him.

“Do you love me?” he asked again. I shook my head slowly.

“No, why would I? You ruined my life. You don’t shine.” I told him. He nodded and sat back.

“Too bad,” he said loud enough for me to hear him. I frowned and go to my feet. He was planning something but I couldn’t resist the temptation.

“Why do you ask?” I asked him.

“Oh, no reason. Was just curious.” He told me. I frowned. I turned my back from him and I looked down at the amulet. Looking at it I knew that there was something wrong but holding it felt right, like I was meant to hold it.

“Zev?” I asked. He made a sound to acknowledge me. “Explain to me what it feels like for you to where this?” he took a deep breath.

“To me, it feels heavy. To be me it feels like I am carrying the weight of the demon world on my shoulders.” He told me.

“Then why do you were it?” I asked.

“Because it is my duty, what about you?” he asked. I smiled.

“I feel happy, light as a feather, tired though like I have no energy.” I knew he would be nodding at my words.

“Don’t you want to get rid of it? To give it back to me, let only one person deal with it.” He asked.

“Well, don’t you?” I retaliated back.

“Katsi, I am the lord of the guard, it is my duty to wear the amulet, it my duty to push past it, you shouldn’t have to deal with its evilness as well. I still feel it you know. I might be used to it but I still feel it.” I looked out the window. We were both suffering. I wanted to keep it, it was mine but knowing that he was suffering as well made it hard. I glanced over at the bed, the sparkle was back. I frowned. I shook my head, not now, I thought.

I watched her back as I told her what I felt when I wore the amulet. To me it was draining but I was so used to it now, it didn’t affect me but it was heavy. I knew it, I couldn’t help that. There was so much past to it that it carried it along with it.

“Explain to me again why I need to take this off.” She asked. I sighed. I got up off the bed and walked over to her. I placed my hand on her shoulder and leant down the her ear.

“Because I don’t want to lose you, numb skull.” I told her. Her hands reached up to the amulet but then she paused. She was shaking. I span her around and my eyes widened. It was too soon, this wasn’t meant to happen until at least tonight. It was way too early. The morning sun was just rising and Katsi couldn’t control the amulet any more.

Her eyes were rolling back, she looked possessed. This was even meant to happen. This was something strange. It was unknown to me. I growled and picked her up by the wait. I put her on the bed as she convulsed into fits. I needed to keep calm. I reached forward with out thinking. I tried to take hold of the amulet but it was hot. The metal was turning red with the heat. I growled and took hold of it nonetheless. The heat had to not bother me. I had to fight it. When I tried to pull the amulet something like a force hit me. I was thrown back with great power. My back hit the wall and I hit the ground. I got to my feet and I tried again but to no avail. I was thrown across the room again.

I stumbled to my feet this time. I was tired and exhausted. The amulet was strong and there wasn’t much I could do to stop what was happening. There was only one method to stop this madness and that was to killer her. I took hold of the dagger that I carried with me.

I watched as she shook the bed. Her eyes were glassy and clouded. I could still see the green. They were looking at me. I could see how desperate she was. She knew she was wrong and she wanted my help. Did I really have to kill her? She knew what I was thinking. She nodded and her eyes pleaded to stop the madness. I walked over to her and she looked up at me. She was fighting, she was fighting the thing trying to crawl inside. Her body was still moving but much more still.

“Please,” I heard her say in such a silent tone. I rose the dagger to just above her. Was I really going to kill the woman I loved?
