Chapter 1- Bittersweet

I ruffle out my dark blonde hair and examine myself. I push a few strands down and slam my locker shut. In my peripheral vision. I notice Justin, Lola, and Noah hanging out in the corner. I gather speed towards them then leap on Justin.

"Ah!" I giggle hanging over him Lola laughs along too. Noah is awkwardly silent, hes always been like that. Even though I knew how he would act. Part of me wished it was because of something else. I untangle my arms from his neck and land safely on the ground. I turn to face Lola and Noah,

"Sup girl!" She smiles, I respond with a smile and look over to Noah.

"Hey Han." He says sweetly. By that one phrase, my heart feels like it's fluttering. I turn away from him before I get lost in his gorgeous eyes. I mentally roll my eyes at myself. Just thinking about him makes me all giddy.

"Ugh, I can't wait till summer is here! I'm so sick of school!" Lola vents. I giggle,

"I mean I don't see the point to hate it." Justin shrugs.

"BECAUSE YOU DON'T DO SHIT!" Lola shoves him on the shoulder lightly. Or what appears to be lightly to her. Justin massages his shoulder.

"I guess you have a point." He says negligently. Noah just shakes his head.

"I'm with you Lola, I can't wait to be able to sleep in for months." I beam.

"And be able to go to the beach!"

"Hell yeah!" I add.

"Whoohoo! let's plan a day!" Justin cheers.

"Nope! It's just going to be me and Hannah." She walks over and hugs me. We squeal.

"Oh, come on!" Noah looks eager to join in, but he remains silent. With another stoic smile.

"NO! All you're going to do is drool over girls! Then you'll chase them around and ditch us!"

"That hurts Lola, I would never ditch you guys over some random chick."He says while put his hand on his heart.

"You've done it before," I add. Noah lets out a small laugh.

"We can all go, I swear I won't ditch you guys... this time. We can even invite Lacey." Wait! What?

"Hmm, she would be a good replacement when you take off on us," Lola adds while rolling her eyes. At the beach, with lacey... There's no way in hell!

"Justin you're such a perv!" I smack his arm and glare at him.

"Ow! What was that for?" He looks out me puzzled. I cross my arms and give him my most sassy voice.

"You would love to have Lacey over wouldn't you?" Lola's eyes widen when she gets my memo. She gasps,

"How dare you! She's taken!"

"Wrong move, man." Noah adds. sigh, what did I expect he would add something when it's about her. Lola creeps up to him,

"It's not what you think I swear!" He holds up his hands. I know what he really meant, but It's for the best that they don't know. There's no way I can handle her being around!

"Like hell it is!" She holds her fist high Ring! Next thing you know Lola is chasing him down through the hallway. I laugh so hard I have a coughing fit. As I head to class, Noah walks beside me. Argh! These damn butterflies!

"How long will you think he'll survive?" He jokes.

"A minute if he's lucky."

"No worries." He brushes his wavy bangs back. He always does that when he's nervous. We stand there in the awkward silence. Shit, he looks down maybe I can cheer him up. I blurt out the first thing that comes into my head.

"Hey! Maybe we can plan something... just the two of us." AH! Why did I say that!

"Yeah maybe." He smiles. "We can go see a movie, are you scared of scary movies?" Holy shit! EEEEEEEE! No! Bad idea, no... I mean we're just going as friends, it's not like it's a date... shit, he's still waiting for me to answer! Think, think!

"Why are you assuming that is because I'm a girl?" I tease Shit, that's not what I meant.

"No..." His tone is questionable. Ugh, me and my idiotic mouth!

"I mean, like... is it an anti-feminist thing?" NOOOOO! What the hell is wrong with me? NOOOOOO! AHHHH!

"We can talk about it some other time." He awkwardly smiles.

"Mhm." He walks past me, I internally sigh... can the ground just swallow me whole that way I can be erased from existence. Why? Why! I sulk all the way to my seat and bury my head in my shoulders. I just want to put a bag over my head out of all the things Hannah? Really? You picked the worst topic with a guy of all history! Sigh, I hate Noah he always has that affect me. I can flirt with every other guy and ask them out with no hiccups. But with him, I stumble on phrases words and sometimes I can't speak! There're times where says hi to me where I can't say it back! I just smile and wave like a weirdo! I hear someone shuffle their seat next to me. I pull my head out from my shoulders and look to see who is occupying the seat next to me. Justin gives me on his famous winks. I roll my eyes, I don't know why I bothered looking up he sits here every day. Some part of me thought it would be someone different. I bet he's thinking, "that's the last time I make small talk with her." Argh, I wish I could kick myself.

"What's with the long face?" Despite Justin being the huge player and goofball. He's very good at reading people, especially me, he's the person who can see if you're lying without even knowing you well enough. Since Justin and I knew each other longer, he's able to tell right when I'm feeling sad or angry. That, and his ability to read people.

"I just forgot that I have a test today and probably will fail." I groan.

"Which class?" He asks suspiciously.

"Chem." I blurt. Hopefully that's convincing, even though I trust Justin with my life. I've never told him how I feel about Noah... It's not like I can say, "I like a guy in our group so it be nice if you didn't tell anyone and kept it on the low."

"Lola has the same class as you right?"

"Yeah." I answer weirdly. Where is he going with this?

"She has mentioned nothing about a test." Strike one!

"Maybe she forgot like me! I won't be alone!" I say making myself sound giddy.

"She has a planner she writes in every day, every second-" Strike two!

"Maybe she forgot to write it down!" I say aggravated. He gives me a "we'll see," Look.

"Lola!" he whispers.

"What!" She's still pissed and annoyed at him for earlier.

"Do you have a chem test today?"

"Hmm... no it's next week."He looks back at me,

"Oh! Looks like I'll have more time to study!" I playoff. He glares at me, otherwise but convinced. I love Justin but sometimes he's a pain trying to decipher everything about me! Especially about Noah! After I tune out most of the classes majority of the day, lunch has finally arrived! Usually, I would make some effort to talk with them. But I'm in a mood today. I take my seat in our usual spot. The whole gang is there I purposely take a big bite of my burger. That way I won't be able to speak when Justin starts his "cut the shit face" Lola talks about her goal of finally getting a boyfriend. Justin teases her about her being too ugly. She smacks him twice while Noah bursts out laughing. I smile here and there but keep munching on tasteless food. I dip my fry into a swirl of ketchup when I look up. I see platinum blonde hair hanging down from Noah's shoulder. I look even more up and see Lacey,

"Hey, honeybun." She says sweetly, a big smile grows across his face. My stomach churns in disgust.

"What are you doing here?" He says while holding her wrists.

"Just hear to check on you." She smiles all giddy. "Hey guys."

"Hey Lacey." Lola smiles, Lacey takes her seat next to Noah ruffling his hair.

"Looking good Lacey," Justin adds. Lola kicks him under the table. "Ow! She knows I'm kidding!" He smiles at her.

"It's all right Lola he needs the practice." She waves her hand. Noah chuckles smugly.

"What does that mean?" Justin says defensively.

"I'm kidding!" She says back, she greets me with a smile. I do my best to give her a sweet smile. Noah wraps his arm over her. I keep my eyes down, trying not to focus on them.

"So, what's going on?" Lola leans in with curiosity.

"Well, I just got out of Ap calc so I have a break period and I figured why not go visit you guys along with Noah?" Her shoulders rise along with her giddy remarks.

"Yeah, right!" Lola teases. "You're just here for Noah aren't you?" She gives her a smug smile.

"Okay maybe... but you guys are a bonus!" She shrugs.

"Wow, you hear that Lola?" Justin turns her head towards her, She nods her head.

"Okay, Okay I see how it is." They all laugh in unison, "But if it was me I'd do the same too."

"So, what's up with you Han?" Shit! Everyone's eyes are on me.

"Oh, nothing much." I shrug. They all turn their attention back to Lacey, the next half hour I tune out Lola fawning over them telling them how cute they are as a couple. The bell rings and well all go our separate ways. I only have two classes left after lunch, the rest of the day I'm zoned out and annoyed at everything. The final bell rings and I head to my locker I slam it shut without grabbing any textbooks. I'm not in the homework mood,

"What's up?" I say with my giddy voice

"You were quiet at lunch?" Ugh, not this again!

"I was just hungry." My phone vibrates I take the opportunity to avoid Justin. I look at the message and read,

"Hannah hang tight I'm picking you up a later today." I groan.

"Hey Justin, can you give me a ride?"

"Sure."

"Thanks." I head in the car with him, the engine

starts and we drive off.
