Chapter 21 

Five

“I’m so proud of you for having made a friend,” Logan is grinning at me from my bed. I’m trying to focus on studying, but it’s sort of hard with him hanging around my room like a walking and talking shadow.

“I did,” I sigh and turn around in my chair. Logan gives me an innocent look, but that won’t work on me. Not today. I really have to study, and he is ruining it for me. “Do you have to be in my room while I’m trying to study? It’s kind of distracting.”

“Am I really that distracting?” there is silent laughter in his eyes as if he is getting a kick out of teasing me.

“Mhm…”

“Yet you’re still not giving me your attention. That means that I have to try even harder to

get it.”

My eyes narrow when he tugs at the bottom of his T–shirt as if wanting to rip it off his

toned body. But even though I’m annoyed with the handsome Alpha werewolf, part of me

wants to see him naked–gah, stupid, stupid brain.

I have to keep my self–control.

I growl at Logan, but it comes out half–hearted. “D–don’t you fucking dare,” I warn him, hoping to come off as tough even though there is a waver in my voice. “I’m not in the

mood for you trying to seduce me.”

“I’m not trying to seduce you.”

“Lies.”

“Am not.”

“Then why were you pretending to undress?”

“Cuz it’s hot in here.”

“Another lie!” I point an accusing finger at him. “It’s not hot in here, and you’re just bored,

so you’re doing everything in your power to try and distract me.”

A chuckle leaves his lips, and then he rolls around so that he is lying on top of his stomach on my bed, grabbing my pillow to rest his elbows on it.

“Can’t you study later?”

“Logan…” I groan. “Seriously, I’m not in the mood for this.”

“Hmm, then what are you in the mood for? A movie? We should try and get to know each other now that Eric isn’t around to stop us. And, if you gave me a chance, you would see

that I’m actually the charming one in the family.”

Since I’m in a bad mood, I mutter, “More like the annoying one in the family…”

“Hey! That’s mean!” Logan laughs and throws a pillow at me. Not hard. I barely even feel

the compact, but it’s enough to make me irritated enough to stand up from my chair.

“You’ve done it now!” I shout and attack him, throwing my whole body at Logan, who laughs even harder when I land on top of him.

He is big with gleaming eyes and bugling muscles, but I’m not afraid. My fingers dig into

his sides, and then I tickle him to make him squirm underneath me. When he starts

struggling, it feels like I’m riding a mechanical bull at a rodeo.

“Get off me!” Logan says between laughter. “This is assault! Please, someone, help me!”

“Muahaha!” I mock him. “I got you now!”

His face pales. “No!”

“Yes!” I hiss. “You’re mine!” I say and tickle his sides even harder with my fingertips sinking into his hot flesh and muscles.

He is hard, and it’s sort of turning me on touching him, but I try to repress that and focus

on delivering him pain. The bastard gotta pay for distracting me from my studies!

“Take this!” I shout, prompting more wiggling out of the mountain of a man that is

underneath me.

“Fuck, that almost hurts!” Logan shouts while laughing so hard that there is slight panic in his voice. He is trying so hard not to use too much force with me, but that’s his downfall. Underestimating me won’t get him far.

“Good!” I smirk down at him. “If it hurts, that means I’m winning!”

Logan laughs at my words, amused but also so very ticklish. I’m straddling his perfect body, and while we both know he could easily turn this around since he is much stronger than me, he is letting me be on top, probably to humor me.

But that doesn’t make me show him any mercy!!

“I’m going to tickle you until you die!” I threaten him. “Here comes my special attack!”

I use all of my fingers and dig into his sides, causing Logan to cry actual tears. “Your fingers are so bony! Fuck…okay, okay…I surrender! Please have mercy!”

I grin down at him, proud of myself for having defeated someone twice my size. “Good, I knew you would come to the realization that you could never defeat me. Now, accept me

as your overlord and beg me to stop tickling you. I’m in a good, so maybe I will show you

mercy.”

“That so?”

“Uh–huh.”

Logan’s dimples show in his smile before he turns the tides and rolls out of my grip faster than I can react. He releases me for only a second before he attacks me, spinning me around so fast that I’m down on my back. I look up, and he cocks his head to the side.

“I’m in a good mood,” Logan says in a tone that mimics the one that I used only moments

before. “So if you beg, maybe I will show you some mercy.”

I bite my lower lip and struggle against his hold, wiggling my hand and trying to kick my legs to get out of his grip. Logan doesn’t budge an inch. He simply moves his free hand to the button of my jeans and undoes it with one quick flick.

I don’t answer, and his devilish lips quirk up higher on his beautiful face.

“Yeah, I got ahead of myself,” Logan scratches the back of his neck with a frown. “I’m sorry. I just see you, and I get super excited because we are mates, and then, because I’m just a big and dumb idiot, I think it’s okay to touch you.”

“Thank you. The scar and branding given to me when I didn’t have a wolf is one of my biggest insecurities. I don’t like being entirely naked, but with you and Eric and I’ve felt…pretty. I haven’t even noticed when you guys touched me there, haven’t given it one thought. But every morning when I look in the mirror, I feel…ugly.”

“You shouldn’t feel ugly. Skin is just skin.”

“Easy for you to say,” I hand him a glare. “You and Eric have flawless skin, and it’s so annoying. It’s like I’m dating two models that do advertising for a skincare company.”

He chuckles. “I do look pretty good, don’t I?”

“Oh my god, the arrogance!” I laugh. “I can’t believe you!”

“I’m not being arrogant; I’m being honest,” Logan’s eyes brighten with pride. “It’s true that I’m very handsome and popular with the ladies.”

I roll my eyes. “You don’t say…”

Logan snorts. “So grumpy…” He lies down in my bed and pats the area beside him. “Anyway, you wanted to bond so… Do you want to come here?”

I lie down and watch his face. “Okay, I’m here. Now what?”

“Now we bond,” he gives me a look that I can’t read. Something glimmers in his eyes, and I’m baffled when I realize it’s vulnerability. “Did you know that I was very insecure when I

was younger?”

I blink. “Uhh…are you making that up because you’ve always been the future Alpha of your pack. That made you popular. Everyone wanted to impress you and Eric and…” I life grimace at the pain of remembering. “You were bullies. You thrived on making my

hell.”

Logan looks torn and reaches out his hand to take mine in his, squeezing. “I’m sorry for the pain we caused, and I know it’s not an excuse, but I think part of the reason why I bullied you is because I was an insecure prick.”

“Are you making that up?”

Logan gently caresses my cheek. “I’m not lying, pretty girl. I constantly felt like I had to make our father happy. He is…special.”

I meet his eyes. “He beats you and Eric, doesn’t he?”

Logan looks flabbergasted by my question. I almost don’t believe he is going to answer me. I don’t think he is used to being put on the spot. Most people don’t ask their Alpha personal questions, but since I’m his mate, his face softens, and he relents.

“He does,” he confirms in an unhappy tone. “And while Eric and I know we could take him since we are bigger than him, we don’t… We respect our father too much to beat him to a pulp. It’s also very physiological, you know? We fear him despite him being weaker than

us because he has beaten us ever since we were kids.”

“It shouldn’t be that way…” I stroke his arm, and Logan releases an unhappy chuckle.

“I can’t believe you’re the one comforting me when your childhood was even worse than mine,” he smiles faintly. “What is worse is that I’m the cause of that.”

My lips curl. “The past can be forgiven, but that means you have to work harder to earn it.”

He grins. “Working hard is exactly my intention.”
