26. The Biggest Jerk of All Time

At The Olsens Mansion.

Grandpa Jeffrey waited until the doctor left before he picked up his cane and grabbed Zach, who was near him.

“Ah! Grandpa, Ouch!” Zach wailed. ” Grandpa, wait – Ah! What did I do wrong?”

“You don’t know what you did wrong?” Grandpa Jeffrey beat him harder. “Why did you endanger Heidi’s life?”

“Dad, is it Zach’s fault?” Beatrice spoke up, stepping between the old man and her son. “Isn’t Heidi an adult? Zach didn’t force her to attend the party.”

“You!” Grandpa Jeffrey looked displeased.

“Mum, stop worsening matters,” Zach whispered to her. “Yeah, I feel guilty for inviting Heidi, but it’s her scumbag ex-husband’s fault.”

“Shut up! You know Heidi’s condition, why would you let her fall inside the pool?”

“Grandpa!”

Heidi, who was unconscious on the bed, opened her eyes from the commotion.

She gasped for breath and shuffled up, her wide eyes darting across the room.

Grandpa Jeffrey pushed Zach aside and sat beside her.

“How do you feel now, Heidi? Tell Grandpa where is paining you.”

Grandpa Jeffrey pulled her into a hug, his voice filled with guilt. “I’ve warned you not to mingle with your silly cousin, Zach. Now see what has happened.”

“Grandpa, I said I’m sorry.” Zach pursed his lips. “I didn’t intend for that to happen-”

“Will saying sorry reverse the time and stop Heidi from falling into the water? Why are you irresponsible- I heard you invited that boy, her ex-husband!”

Grandpa Jeffrey’s anger hit the ceiling.

Ten years ago, Heidi had been brought back home from school with this strange illness.

She not only lost her ability to swim, she was even scared to go near the pool.

None of the family members saw that coming, and to this day, they didn’t know what caused it.

Despite Grandpa Jeffrey looking hard into the matter and even threatening the school staff, none admitted to knowing what happened.

“Grandpa, please calm down. I’m fine,” Heidi said softly, ignoring her headache.

“Are you sure you’re fine? Don’t worry, Grandpa will get justice for you.”

Hearing Grandpa Jeffrey’s words, Heidi was moved to tears. “Just let it go, Grandpa. Don’t let it bother you, your health matters.”

“But promise me you’ll never go near that boy again.”

Heidi pursed her lips and looked down. Her jewelry was still in Lucas’s hands. The man had also haunted her life.

How would she be okay if she didn’t seek justice for herself?

“Uhm, Grandpa. I won’t.”

“Good girl.” Grandpa Jeffrey left, dragging Zach out of the room with him.

Beatrice saw no reason to remain standing there, feeling greatly offended that Grandpa Jeffrey pinned all the blame on her son.

“Heidi, I know that look.” Regina was standing in a corner all this time. “Why are you so stubborn? Will you not leave that guy alone? Is he the only man on earth?”

“Mum, he has my jewelry,” Heidi murmured, pulling her legs to support her chin. “I promised Grandpa Winston to keep that jewelry forever. I have to get it back.”

“You!” Her mother glared at her. “Are you now beyond saving, Heidi? Why won’t you stay away from that family?”

“But the jewelry-”

“The jewelry doesn’t matter. You almost lost your life for goodness sake!” Her mother came forward and flicked her on the forehead, hoping it would make her come back to her senses.

“Ouch! Mum, it hurts.” Heidi pouted, using that opportunity to hug her mother. “If you’re worried that I still love Lucas, to hell with him! He pushed me inside the pool and I’m never gonna forgive him.”

“Haven’t you said similar things in the past? Remember that time you broke your leg in college. You promised never to go near him.”

“That is different now. Won’t you have faith in me, Mum!?” Heidi whined, acting spoiled.

Regina had long lost faith in her daughter since the day Heidi started high school.

Other kids returned home and spoke about their first experiences, but the first thing she mentioned was, “Mum, Dad, I’ve found my true love.” 1

A series of events happened after that. Heidi literally became obsessed with that guy from the Harrisons Household, even calling out his name in her sleep.

Rumors had it that he was as cold as the ice mountain and crushed everyone that crossed his path.

Regina and her husband didn’t want their daughter to marry someone like him. Only Grandpa Jeffrey supported Heidi.

Well, Heidi promised that she’d win his affection no matter what, making a bet to hide her identity so he would fall for the normal girl she was.
