Singularity
Chapter 19

Kira yawned, stretched, and opened her eyes. It was light out beyond the curtains. As she sat up, Domascus walked in with a tea kettle and two cups on a tray. He set them down on the nightstand and poured them each a cup. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the ꜰindNʘvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“How long was I out for?” She asked.

“Most of the night,” He handed her a cup. “You must be feeling pretty drained after yesterday. A transportation spell and a protective barrier in one day can be hard on the spirit. Drink this though, it’ll help.”

“What is it?” She asked as she took a sip and made a strange face.

“It is witches root tea. Will give you some balance.” He replied.

“It’s bitter.” She complained.

“You’ll get used to the taste.” He chuckled.

“I’m sure.” She replied and climbed out of bed. “Alright enough talking, there are things I want to show you today.”

“Alright,” He smiled. “There are clothes in the closet. I’m sure something is in there that you will approve of. I’ll wait outside while you change.” He said walking across the room and closing the door between them.

Kira made her way over to the closet. She almost laughed out loud at the amount of clothes that were in there. The closet was twice the size of her entire room at the academy. She couldn’t even think of what to wear from the collection. She grabbed the outfit closest to the door. It was a deep green leather body suit. She pulled it on slipped into her boots and strapped on her weapons. She left her bracelet on the nightstand and took the dagger Domascus had left with her, putting it in the back of her weapon belt. She then slipped on the long jacket and opened the door.

“You ready?” She asked as she stepped out into the hall.

“Of course,” He replied smiling and holding out his arm.

As she placed her arm through his he asked, “What is it you would like to show me?”

“I’d like to show you how to breathe life back into the living.” She replied.

“You can do that?” He asked.

“Yes, it’s like second nature to me. Now where’s the kitchen? We have a potion to brew up.” She smiled.

“Right this way,” He pointed down the hall toward the stairs.

Kira walked arm in arm with Domascus down the hall. They descended the stairwell and passed through several more doors before they found their way into the kitchen. She made her way over to the counter and picked up a glass bowl then turned around and lit the fire.

“Why don’t you take a handful of those grapes and deseed them for me?” She asked as she filled the bowl with water and placed it on the fire.

“Alright,” He replied taking a handful and putting it on the counter.

It only took him a few minutes to cut them in half and pop the seeds out. Kira handed him a small bowl and a wooden spoon.

“Just mash those up a bit.” She said as the water started to boil.

“What exactly are we doing? He asked as he handed her the mashed grapes.

“Well, there are four key elements right?” She asked him.

“Yes,” He replied confused by the simplicity.

“Water and fire boiling makes air, that’s the first three ingredients. These grapes came from the earth so that’s the fourth.” She replied as she dumped them in.

“But what you might not know is these are no good without the fifth element. If you don’t combine your spirit to activate it, then all you have is four destructive forces.” She explained.

“Yeah, I know that part all too well.” He replied.

“Give me your hand.” She said holding hers out.

Domascus put his hand in Kira’s hand. She reached back and pulled the dagger from her belt and used it to prick his finger. A few drops of blood fell into the bowl. She let his hand go and pricked her own finger letting her blood fall in the mixture as well. He watched intensely as the water turned black while she stirred it.

“What’s all this for?” He asked again.

“Hush and grab a tea cup would you?” She said as she turned off the fire.

Domascus reached up into the cupboard and pulled down a cup and saucer. He set them on the counter and watched as Kira poured the liquid into it. Steam rose from the top of it. She gave it a gentle blow to cool it down and then picked it up.

“Now, where can we find your father?” She asked.

“In his room I’m sure. It’s up the stairs from the throne room.” He replied.

“Well come on then. Lead the way.” She urged with a smile.

Domascus found no reason to argue with Kira. He led her down the hall through the dining room and into the throne room. She carefully climbed the stairs behind him. She didn’t want to spill even a drop. As they reached the top of the stairs, he knocked three times and waited.

“Enter,” His father called out in-between a fit of coughing.

Domascus walked in first, “Father, I bring someone to you.” He stated.

“Well, what is it?” His father asked bitterly.

Kira stepped out from behind Domascus. She made her way over to the bed and carefully sat down beside him.

“Drink this sir, it will return your strength to you.” She said holding out the cup.

“You’re the pagan girl that stopped the attack on us yesterday.” He commented.

“Yes sir I am.” She replied.

“Why are you here?” He grumbled. “Come to finish off what your father started?”

“No sir. I just wish to teach your son how to give life instead of taking it away.” She replied. “Please, drink this so you may become well again.”

“You can trust her father. She’s not like the others.” Domascus replied.

“Very well, even death would be better than this.” His father admitted and drank the whole cup.

The reaction was instantaneous. Domascus marveled as his father’s muscles filled back out. His skin tightened around the muscle and all pain faded away from his body.

“Dear goddess,” His father marveled as he pushed himself up out of the bed.

“I can hardly believe it Kira.” Domascus stammered.

“I can’t believe no one ever taught you how to do it.” Kira smiled.

“Thank you child,” His father smiled.

“You are welcome sir.” She smiled back. “I shall take my leave of you. I’m sure there is much you wish to do now that life has returned to you.” She said with a bow.
