Chapter 8

Michalei felt like an ass, just watching Kira walk away. He could tell that she was mad at him. He felt like she had a good reason to be. He was there for her since she walked into the academy and he liked being with her. Pulling away like he did was wrong. But orders from masters could not be ignored. He had to let her go. It wasn’t going to be easy either. With a defeated sigh he went back into the court yard and contemplated the decision in silence.

Kira made her way back to her room. She grabbed her long black trench coat and slipped it on. She picked up her sun glasses and put them on top of her head and then made her way down the hall to the portal archway. She put the sunglasses on as the portal opened with a flash of bright light. She stepped through and instantly she was home.

Kira’s heels echoed off the stone floor as she made her way through the castle. She headed to the throne room certain that she would find her father there. She was right but he wasn’t alone. There was a tall man with pure silver hair sitting with him. Their conversation ended as she stood in the center of the room.

She bowed in respect before speaking, “Hello papa.”

“Kira,” Sephiroth replied as he stood and opened his arms. “I’m glad you’re home.”

“Me too papa.” She replied as she hugged him tight.

“Look at you!” He exclaimed. “A proper lady of the academy. Your mother would be so proud of you.”

“Thank you papa.” She blushed.

“I wasn’t expecting you until supper. I’ve got to finish this meeting.” Sephiroth replied.

“That’s ok papa. I can find something to keep me occupied until supper.” She smiled.

“Alright,” He smiled and hugged her again. “I’ll see you in a bit.”

“Ok papa.” She bowed. “Sir,” She nodded at the other man.

When he nodded back Kira walked quickly away. She knew right where she wanted to be and was thankful for the opportunity. Once she was outside. She took off running through the field. Her swords swung against her legs as she kicked up dirt. She stopped in front of the stable doors and looked around eagerly.

“Hello Kira,” She heard from behind.

“Ein,” She smiled and turned around.

He stood there holding a bale of hay. “You look good.”

“Thanks, feels weird though.” She blushed.

“I bet.” He chuckled and threw the hay on the pile in the barn.

“We got cheated out of our ride the other day.” She said as he continued to clean. “I have a few hours before I have to be back if you want to do it now.”

“I wish I could.” He replied. “I’ve got too much to do though. I need to muck out the stables, feed and water the horses, and bring up more hay for the stalls. It’s going to be hours before I’m free.”

“No it won’t.” She winked.

A gust of wind blew past Ein. Before he had the chance to blink everything he said he had to do was finished. Kira had even saddled the horses. She turned to him with a smile.

“Banned from using it at the academy, but I still got it.” She giggled.

“Yes, you do.” He laughed. “Now we got time for you to tell me all about it.”

Ein led the horses out of the barn. Kira climbed up in the saddle adjusting her swords so they wouldn’t get caught. Once he was in his saddle he gave the horse a tap and led them down the woodland path. It opened up into a small clearing near a creek bed where they tethered up the horses to a tree and sat listening to the water.

“So, what’s it like at the academy?” He asked.

“It’s horrible. I swear everyone there hates me. I constantly have to fight like hell to prove myself.” She complained.

“I think that’s the whole point of the place.” He laughed. “I know someone that was a master there a long time ago. He said the harder you work the more freedom they give back to you.” He replied.

“Really?” She asked.

“Really,” He replied. “I’ll bet once you get good enough you’ll be able to come home every day for a few hours at least.”

“So we could go riding again sometime?” She asked with a smile.

“Yeah, I’d like that. I really wanted the chance to get to know you.” He said.

“Me too,” She sighed. “I was so mad at papa when he shipped me off without a chance to tell you I even had to go.” She pouted.

“Um, ok. I grew up in the orchard south of Avalon. How about you?” She asked.

“I’m not from Avalon. I’m in servitude to it from my home realm of Credos. So, please don’t tell your father we’re hanging out. He might deport me.” Ein begged.

“I’d never tell him. He’d ban me from everything and have me locked away for the rest of my life. He has trust issues.” She replied.

“Kind of sucks to be us don’t it.” He laughed. “If my father knew where I was right now he’d have me beaten and confined to the Earth realm.”

“Crap, what time is it?” She realized looking at the sky. “Oh no, I’m going to be late. I got to go Ein.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to keep you so long.” He apologized.

“I’m sorry I didn’t have more time to give you.” She countered.

Ein leaned over and pressed his lips gently against Kira’s lips. It felt as if fire was being poured through her veins. Her whole body tingled. When he pulled away he noticed a bed of white lilies had sprung up around them.

“I like your magic.” He blushed.

“I like yours too.” She blushed.

“Go,” He said. “I’ll see you again.”

“Good bye Ein.” She smiled threw herself upon the horse.
