Ch. 6 Samael

NO!” I shouted into the darkness. What am I going to do now? I ran a hand through my hair before taking both hands and rubbing them down my face. I growl in frustration. I guess I’ll call Shayla and tell her what happened, I think just before taking my phone out of my back pocket. Tapping my thumb on the witch’s name, I hit send and listen as the line rings. On the fourth ring I hear, “hello, Samael? This is quite an unexpected call. How may I help you?”

“Well, for starters, the pure soul you thought was living in South Carolina is an angel and not a human soul. So, any chance you can conjure up any more information on the pure human soul? And secondly, how did you not see the angel?” My voice sounds snippy, and I know it’s because I’m aggravated but I don’t give a flying fuck at the moment. She laughs loudly into the receiver, and I feel my anger getting ready to boil over. “My dear reaper, I never specified that the pure soul was in that state. What I said is, there is a soul in South Carolina that can help you find the soul you are looking for.” As she tells me this, I try to recall past conversations we had to remember her wording. Realizing she is right, I mutter ‘shit’ and then begrudgingly bid her farewell.

Taking a seat upon my blood red leather couch, I let Shayla’s words roll around in my head thinking about Cassie in between those thoughts. Maybe Cassie was supposed to lead me towards the pure soul. If that’s the case, then I need to figure out a way to talk with her and plead for her assistance in finding the soul I need. Unfortunately, I’m not able to get in contact with her for nearly a week because of having to gather the deceased souls within the human realm.

As soon as I have a free moment, I whip my cell out of my pocket and call Rim. To my surprise, Rim answers my call. “Dude, where are you? I’ve searched every realm I could think of. Hell’s bells, I even snuck into Hell in search of you. Are you okay?”

I’m beyond shocked to hear concern in his voice. “Yo, man. I’m wicked sorry about everything. Apparently, I misunderstood what Shayla was saying about finding the pure soul in South Carolina. Crazy, right!”

“Could you say that again?” Rim asks, laughing at the same time. “Would you like to meet in person, and you can give me a detailed account of the conversation that had occurred between you two?”

“That sounds like a plan. Want to meet me at that corner café in the human world and get a coffee?” As wild as it sounds, I’m crossing my fingers that he will agree to meet me there because I am craving one of those coffee’s I had the privilege of tasting in the past when I ‘wasn’t’ stalking Cassie.

“Yeah man, that sounds great. I’ve been dying to get one of those Mocha drinks they serve. What time/day would you like to meet up?”

Contemplating for a moment I suggest the next day around ten in the morning. After he agrees, I disconnect the line and leave to check on a couple of jobs that are going to need attention quite soon.

Just as the numbers flip from 9a.m. to 10a.m. on my phone, I open the door to the coffee shop and see Rim standing near the counter looking as though he had just finished ordering his drink because the barista was handing him coins for the purchase. He glances my way as I stroll up to him and I grin. “Hey! What kind of coffee did you end up ordering? I was thinking of trying the same thing.” Rim smiles and tells the barista to make me the same kind of coffee as him. Once we’ve each got a drink in hand, we find and claim an empty booth towards the back of the little shop.

“Alright man, I’m all ears for what Shayla had told you.” Rim says after taking a sip of his drink.

Nodding my head, I take a sip of mine and am pleasantly happy for having gotten it. “Okay so in a sense, I was right. Cassie is the key to finding my pure soul but she herself isn’t the soul, obviously. The amulets worked on her because of her angel’s soul.”

“Okay, is that exactly what Shayla said to you?” Shaking my head, no, I recount every single word to him so that he knows how and what she said. “I do have a very important question though and I hope I’m going about it the proper way this time around. Do you think Cassie can forgive me and would she be willing to help me locate the soul?”

Humming for a second, Rim gives the only answer I think he can give; “I cannot answer for her. Knowing her as I do, I feel she would help you, but I don’t know that for sure. I will give her a call and see what she says. As soon as I have an answer I’ll send you a message, okay.”

Thanking him, we part ways and I jump realms so that I can get ready for my jobs that need done for the day.

Anxiously I look at my phone. I’m tapping the screen about every thirty seconds or so waiting for a text to pop up or for the phone to ring with Rim on the other end of it. What could be taking him so long? It shouldn’t be that hard to approach Cassie and ask her for assistance. There’s been a dozen times where I nearly give in and just call him instead of waiting for him to reach out to me. Of course, I stop myself and stuff it back in my pocket, but the temptation is very high.

It is exactly two hours later when my phone finally starts buzzing and I swipe at it so quickly that at first, I’m not able to open my screen. Sighing, I run my thumb over the screen a bit slower and am open to open it after which I click the phone and say; “hello! Hey Rim. Thought you’d never call. Tell me you’ve got some good news for me?”

“Ha. You know it dude! Cassie said if you want to meet her at my place tomorrow night, she’d be willing to listen to what you have to say.”

“Sweet. I’ll be there with bells on!” I say excitedly. I’m astounded that Cassie has agreed but ecstatic too. After the line disconnected, I realized he hadn’t given a time frame for me to come over, so I sent him a message to which he suggested around 8 o’clock.
