Chapter 16 

Summer guessed that Alverta was the servant who took care of Sanford. 

She answered, “Alverta has asked for leave. I’ll take care of you these days.” 

After recognizing Sanford’s origin, there was more affection in Summer’s eyes when she looked at him. 

But Sanford didn’t seem to appreciate it. 

“I don’t want to eat it! I want Alverta back!” 

In a fit of pique, Sanford left the table and sat on the sofa on the first floor, with his back to Summer. 

Summer thought, ‘He’s got a temper. Was Alick like him when he was a little boy? Oh boy! Why did I think of 

him?” 

Summer rolled her eyes in the air and took the chicken to the table. 

The dishes and soup were just cooked, emitting an attractive aroma. 

Summer stirred the fried chicken with her fork and shouted in the direction of the living room, “If you don’t want 

to eat, I’ll eat them all!” 

Without getting any response, Summer picked up her fork and began to eat. 

It was not that Summer didn’t have the patience to wait for Sanford, but that her stomach was rumbling. 

After a few minutes, she felt someone pushing the back of her chair. When she turned around, she saw the angry. eyes of Sanford. 

“Why did you eat behind me?” 

Summer was amused by his words, and answered, “What do you mean that I eat behind you? I made it myself.” 

“This is my home!”

“Do you want to eat it?”

Summer pushed the plate in Sanford’s direction when she saw that he glanced at the fried chicken out of the corner of his eye frequently. 

“I’m not going to eat junk food!” Sanford turned around. 

Summer observed his action, feeling hurt. 

She had been away from Sanford since he was born. Alick raised him with a lot of money but didn’t give him enough love. That was why Sanford became self–willed. 

She was also responsible for that. 

Summer didn’t continue to talk about this topic. She stood up and filled a bowl of principal food for Sanford, and then divided out a portion of each dish. 

Sanford was so hungry that he grabbed the spoon and took two bites. 

The fried chicken exuded a tempting fragrance, but his stubbornness prevented him from expressing his true 

will. 

The delicious chicken in front of him lost its temptation. While eating the principal food, Sanford felt inexplicably 

angry. 

Suddenly, a hand reached out to take a piece of golden and crisp fried chicken to his bowl. 

“What are you doing?” 

Sanford restrained his anger, and his tone was softened. 

With a smile on her face, Summer took the initiative to give in to stubborn Sanford. 

“You’re right. Fried chicken is junk food, but it doesn’t matter if we eat it once in a while, right? Have a try. It won’t taste good if it turns cold.” 

With a deep frown on his face, Sanford took a small bite, as if he was forced to eat. 

“Not bad,” Sanford commented.

For a while, a small plate of fried chicken was almost eaten up by Sanford.

Summer didn’t know what Sanford wanted to do, so she wiped his mouth with a napkin when he was full. 

Although Sanford was still cold to Summer, Sanford’s attitude softened a lot. At least they could stay in the same space peacefully, although they sat far away. 

Summer didn’t know much about Sanford, so she could only guess his preferences by observing. 

“Sanford, when will your father come back?” 

“I don’t know.” 

Sanford gave her a cold shoulder. Summer thought that she must ask what she wanted to know before dinner 

next time. 

“What do you usually do?” Summer asked. 

However, Sanford sat in the corner of the sofa with his eyes closed, ignoring her. 

Since she had nothing else to do, Summer asked another question. 

“Does Alverta always take care of you? She…” 

Before Summer could finish her words, she was interrupted by Sanford. 

“You are too noisy!” 

“Well, I won’t make any noise. Can you take me to an empty bedroom? I’m probably going to stay here for a few days.” 

Sanford didn’t sneer at Summer anymore. He took her to a door in front of a bedroom and returned to his bedroom next door. Summer stood there with mixed feelings. 

She wondered if the little guy knew that she had lived here for several years. 

Summer held back her emotions and pushed the door open. 

It was not as dirty and dark as she thought. The bedroom was stainless. The sunlight sprinkled on the wooden

floor through the window, warm and fresh.

The bedroom was carefully arranged, and the decoration in the room was placed exactly as she remembered. 

With mixed feelings, Summer walked around the familiar and strange bedroom. 

She opened the wardrobe and found the clothes that she had worn a few years ago. 

Summer took a quick shower and changed into pajamas. 

The comfortable surroundings made her relaxed. She curled up in bed and gradually became sleepy. 

She wondered how Ballard was at home and whether he missed her. 

Perhaps it was because of the special bond between mother and child that Summer went downstairs to get 

water in slippers. 

When she passed through the corridor, the red light of the surveillance camera at the end of the wall flashed. As Summer was getting closer and closer, it flashed more frequently. 

Summer noticed it, slowed down, and the camera slightly rotated in the direction she moved. 

Suddenly, Summer patted her forehead. 

The surveillance camera moved up and down as if a person was nodding. 

“Ballard?” 

Summer fixed her eyes on the camera. The action of tapping her forehead and nodding back through the camera was a secret signal between her and Ballard. 

When Ballard was little, Ballard always hacked into the electric appliances around her to play tricks on her. 

After getting the response from the camera again, Summer hurriedly checked the surroundings. The corridor was empty, and there was no other sound. 

“Ballard, I’m safe. Don’t worry. Take good care of your sister. Listen to Auntie Fay. Don’t go out. Protect yourself. I love you.”

Summer was afraid that Alick would monitor her, so she didn’t dare to risk the safety of Ballard. After saying that in a hurry, she threw a kiss at the camera, turned around, and left. 

The surveillance camera turned right. After she disappeared at the stairway, the camera slowly turned back to 

where it was. 

After the board meeting, Alick asked Bill about the situation in the villa. 

Bill reported, “Andres said that Andres looked around on the first floor, sat for a while, and then went to the kitchen to make dinner. After lunch with Sanford, she went back to her bedroom.” 

“That’s all? Didn’t Sanford cause trouble?” Alick rubbed his fingertips, lost in thought.
