Verse 12 – Jacks Legacy

When the next day’s sun arose the academy had a quieter feel to it, it was safe to say after the heretics of yesterday’s events today was a normal day. It was halfway through the day and Mr Kobi had gathered all the professors for a meeting, “ ahem well I called you all today because I know what you must all be thinking…..yes I knew about the boy and Jack” spoke the headmaster, “PROPOSTERUS !” shouted one of the professors “how could you have withheld such information from us, do you know what this means” said professor Artemis, “ quiet down Professor Artemis remember who your raising your voice to” said the headmistress “ I purposely kept the Boys identity a secret for a number of reasons, the most important factor was the academies safety and I’m sure you all know what kinds of trouble we’d get in if people found out Jack Sterling taught an orphan boy Lightning brand. Jyro, Johnny and Tristine had just finished lessons and were strolling down the Trinity bridge on their way to pay Mongoley a visit, “what a drag today was I had nothing but Earthology and royal history, ergh how long till it all ends” Groaned Johnny “you think you had it bad I got stuck with Professor Valentine for half the day he kept purposely asking me questions I couldn’t answer, I think he’s got a problem with me” Jyro suggested, meanwhile whilst the two boys were conversing with one another Tristine was too busy burying her attention into the local newspaper she was reading , “what you got there Trish” asked Johnny , “Demon Hunters weekly” she replied “ you actually read that thing, all they ever report about demon attacks and all the minor cities quarrelling it’s all abit malarkey to me really”, Tristine didn’t even pay attention to Johnnys remarks and continued to read on “OH wow you two look at this, ‘sudden reports have come in that one of the 12 holy swords wielders was attacked and was dispossessed of their weapon”, “ No wayyy, give me that let me read” Johnny insisted ,” yeah right what happened to your earlier feelings before aye?” Tristine said abruptly. Valko flayed his arms and flapped around helplessly, “you all think this is funny just watch when I get out of here” he wailed,” “Jesus Trish why’d yo go and do that for” said Johnny” come on let’s get out of here” said Jyro whilst pulling the girls arm away and fleeing the scene, moments later the headmistress strolled by over the bridge and looked over to see Valko Sitting in the pond “HELP…MISTRESS IM DROWNING” yelled Valko the headmistress simply shook her head and sighed to the sight of seeing him “ oh shush your mouth you big baby and crawl out of there it’s not even that deep” she said.

The 3 kids finally made it to Trinity lane alleyway gasping for breath after the getaway they just did,” phew that was a close one, he’s not gunna be too happy when he gets out of there” stated Johnny, “yeah but it was hilarious though haha” Jyro exclaimed, the two boys continued to mock Valkos fall when Jyro looked over to Tristine noticed her face down and sad. He then remembered what led her to push Valko over the bridge “Tristine what did Valko mean by what he said about your father” he asked “ermm I don’t really like talking about it, but after the hells gate disaster my family’s business went through problems so we ended up losing everything, my dad carried out one of the biggest heists in the country, he was notorious for stealing from the rich and giving to the poor they called him the blue shadow, well eventually he turned himself in and was sentenced to 40 years in confinement and i haven’t seen him since I was a kid” she explained. The two boys felt sorry for Tristine not knowing she’s had to carry his last name around with her, “but enough about that there’s Mongoleys” she said, the kids spotted Mongoley and Liam carrying boxes out of the shop, “Mongoley ya need help with those” Johnny asked “ay ay if ya kids don’t mind I need to get all this junk shifted by tomorrow morning. The kids began lending a hand with the boxes when Jyro noticed both of Liam’s hands were heavily plastered with blood visibly seeping through the wrappings on one of his hands , “Liam let me help you with that, I see your still cutting yourself then” suggested Jyro ,” oh this haha its nothing serious Mr Jyro just been working twice as hard uno , so kind of space out now and again and well you know this happens haha” Liam quickly gathered the boxes before Mongoley scolded him. The 3 kids accompanied by Liam were carrying boxes through the town to the BB station across town, whilst Johnny and Tristine were busy arguing at the back about who can lift the most boxes Jyro thought it a good time to get to know Liam,” so how long have you been working for Mongoley then Liam” asked Jyro “well not too long only for about a year or so, I lived with my nan on the plains before coming to Canta then I met Mongoley he’s the only family I have around now” ,” oh so your parents aren’t around then?” asked Jyro” Noooope they died 12 years ago during the last Hells Gate Tragedy” Liam replied “I’m sorry to hear that, I didn’t realise the demon plague affected so many people I guess we should be grateful they can’t enter the city? Eventually the group finally made it to the station they dropped the boxes off then proceeded back to Mongoleys shop, the bell chimed signalling someone entered the shop” were backkk! Johnny hollered but they were greeted to the emptiness of the shop when Mongoley suddenly emerged from the back with a customer,” ay this is a fine blade lad but its steel needs regular maintenance it’s seen a lot of battle if ya catch my drift laddie” walking alongside Mongoley was no other than Leo Blackstorm. The kids looked to see him and stood still and smiled at him he then moved forward and walked towards the group,” h…hello Leo fine weather were having right” Johnny nervously muttered as Leo simply walked straight past him and stood in front of Jyro, the tall broad shouldered boy towered over Jyro as he bent his neck upwards to look at him,” ermm hello there” said Jyro, “…lightning.. That means will do battle soon to see who’s the strongest” he said, Leos words hit Jyro unexpectedly whilst he stood there speechless hoping he’d blurt out that he’s joking, just before Jyro could even utter a sound Tristine stood in-between them “ alright listen here you… you giant boy my friend isn’t scared of you so I suggest you back off” she declared ,whilst Leo stared down at the feisty girl and cracked a somewhat awkward smile, “hmph your cute” he said then walked away. Tristine stood there and blushed before Johnny walked over and begun to tease her “ha-ha looks like someone has an admirer doesn’t she” “oh shut it Johnny “replied Tristine, meanwhile Jyro was still pondering what Leo meant by what he said ” oh yeah Mongoley you wouldn’t to know where some could purchase a crossbow would you”,” mmmm not sure I can tell ya there an ancient weapon don’t think I’ve seen one in years, Why you asking for one anyhow”, “well no reason it’s for something to do with school” Said Tristine.

The moon sat in the sky and shone down on the Academy City the venders were closed and the town was quieter than usual, Jyro sat in his room with Sebastian staring aimlessly out the window watching the night sky form above them, Knock Knock! “Come in” the door opened to Tristine and Johnny in their Pyjamas standing in the doorway each carrying a book Jyro looked on at them both in confusion “ermm sorry to be the bearer of bad news guys but I’m not really in the mood for studying right now” said Jyro, “oh no this isn’t what you think it is Jyro where here to show you something” Tristine said, the two of them then placed their books down and began flickering through the pages. “Jyro you remember that black book you got from me from the library the one with the torn pages right” she asked, “yeah you know the one mate the book Tristine was obsessed over” added Johnny “ergh yeah I think he gets the point…ahem well I finished reading it and realised Merlin Albert writes 3 chapters which are in relation to the chapters in another book then does the same thing in the final book,” Jyro didn’t understand what she was getting at but nodded in response anyway “ well then I remembered I owned two other additions of his book and re-read them both to find out he done it as well in them too, but this is where it gets weird because the first 3 chapters in the big black book continue in the next book then after the 3 chapters end in that book they continue in the last one look” explained Tristine, who then started to show Jyro what she was talking about .Jyro scratched his head jaded by what he was hearing and tried to make sense of what Tristine was saying ,”chapter 1-3s story continues in the second book from chapters 6-9 and then continue in the last book from 9-12” said Tristine, “ Don’t worry Jyro I was gobsmacked as well when I heard her theory but then she showed me this all look”, Jyro looked down at the second book which spoke about an artefact called ‘ The Key to the Hells Gate’ which described it as the catalyst to the destruction of mankind. The 6 chapters between the two books spoke the power of the key and what it would bring, but just as it mentioned the whereabouts of the key the chapter ends,” and we think the whereabouts of the key lie in the missing chapters part of the black book” said Tristine, Jyro suddenly became worried and realised why his two friends rushed to show him their discovery “ somebody is trying to re-create the hells gate tragedy “ Muttered Jyro as all 3 kids then looked at one another and sat in silence at the discovery they’ve just all made.

The next morning Jyro couldn’t stop thinking about Merlin Albert’s missing chapters as he sat in the lunch hall alone pondering, “hi ... excuse me are you Jyro Thomas” a voice spoke, Jyro looked up to see 3 girls standing in front of him , “yes I’m Jyro Thomas” he replied “ oh erm well my friends and I just wanted to come and say good luck at the event , will be rooting for you” the girl quickly finished her greeting then scurried away , “ oi oi Jyro seems like you’ve gotten pretty famous now “ Said Johnny whilst arriving from the unknown, “ where did you suddenly come from “ Jyro asked, “just walked in now but you was too busy with Mindy Santos to even realise” he sniggered , Jyro then brought out the book he was reading and showed it to Johnny , “read this bit Johnny” …..They shun so brightly in the heavens above like stars in each other’s orbit, till the sky couldn’t hold them any longer and sent them crashing down to the earth, in each fallen stars hatred and sin they sought to bind and torture the sky’s precious creation ‘Humans’ into their new desolate kingdom known as hell, Beezle, Levi and Luci where the first 3 to fall. Johnny sighed after reading the paragraph, “Listen mate I’m just as worried as you are about this but there’s nothing we can do, and I’m sure no one will actually be able to open the door it’s all probably just a hoax” but Johnny’s words were not enough to settle Jyros worry who had a very bad feeling about it all.

Whilst Johnny continued to share his thoughts on the whole situation Tristine arrived with her own agenda, “alright boys I’ve been doing some research and discovered Merlin might have written another book before he died but it wasn’t actually finished therefore didn’t get printed “,”and how you suppose will get our hands on the manuscript ay Trish” the blue haired girl simply smiled with amusement “that’s simple Dear Johnathan will be forcefully borrowing it” Tristine announced. Johnny’s head fell into his hands at the thought of another adventure with Tristine, “but how do you know who has it” Jyro asked, “since it’s a rare piece of text it’ll probably be at the QRB in the middle of town” replied Tristine” and what’s the QRB?” Jyro asked, “ it stands for the Queens Royal Bureau and it’s sort of like a museum but stored with various kinds of rare and special items weapons and pieces from history not just anybody can walk inside” said Johnny. “Exactly right Johnathan but once again you tend to forget we attend the prestigious academy in the name of the queen herself” said Tristine cheekily with a grin.
