Chapter 62

She made it through, but how about her baby?

The nurse just left and won’t be back. Letitia’s voice was so soft and faint it couldn’t make it beyond the room.

She threw back the covers and struggled to get out of bed.

As soon as her feet touched the ground, they went all wobbly, and she nearly hit her knees.

Gritting her teeth, Letitia pushed on, “Nurse, my baby… how’s my baby…?”

Is he dead or alive?

She barely made it to the door when it swung open from the outside.

Looking up, Letitia locked eyes with Elgin’s deep gaze.

After a two-second stare down, she clenched his sleeve, shouting with every bit of her strength, “Elgin! Did you get rid of my baby… You must have done it!”

Her eyes were bloodshot and fiery red, staring straight at him.

Elgin could clearly see the hatred in her eyes. So intense.

She hated him. Yeah, she was supposed to hate him, like… he’d always hated her.

Out of hatred, Elgin had tossed Letitia into the loony bin. Out of hatred, all she wanted was to get the hell away from him.

Seeing Elgin remain silent, Letitia shook his arm desperately. “Answer me! My baby… you had no right! Why would you do that without my consent..”

“Elgin, that was a live, breathing soul. How could you bring yourself to do it?”

“While I was out cold, you just went ahead. You might as well have let me drown in the lake, let me and my baby go together!”

Her voice was hoarse with accusation, her fists pounding against Elgin’s chest.

But her feeble strength was nothing more than a tickle to him.

She even bit her lower lip until it bled.

Elgin finally spoke indifferently, “Letitia, maybe it was a mistake from the start.”

“Mistake? What mistake? I’m asking about my child, don’t change the subject!”

“I shouldn’t have married you,” Elgin replied. “You should’ve stayed in that madhouse, out of the sunlight forever. We should’ve just had that one-off encounter and never crossed paths again.”

Looking back, Elgin thought it was probably the worst move he’d ever played.

He figured Letitia was easy to control, with what he had, she could be the perfect Mrs. Ramirez.

But he calculated everything, except for his own heart

At this moment, facing Letitia, Elgin had to admit- He’d gone soft.

And was it love that softened him? He didn’t know, and he sure as hell didn’t dare to dig deeper!

Biting her teeth, Letitia said, “I don’t want to be with you either! Elgin, the divorce papers are signed. Just let me go, and I’m willing to go back to the asylum!”

“You can’t go back.”

Letitia looked at him, her fists falling powerlessly from his chest as if all her strength had been drained, collapsing to the floor like a rag doll.

Elgin caught her in a swift embrace.

“Let go of me,” Letitia struggled.

But Elgin simply swept her off her feet and carried her back to the hospital bed.

I’ve already jumped, why save me?” Letitia asked. “Can’t I end it all with death?”

You cant die Not unless I say you can.”

Her voice choked up, “So my baby should die? Elgin, you saved me this time, but you can’t save me next time! No one can save a person hell-bent on dying!”

in the wate, Letitia felt completely relaxed – it was an unprecedented sense of release.

e only one she felt sorry for was her baby.

Chapter 62

Her death might have bought peace and smooth sailing for her parents.

Elgin’s lips parted coldly. “Letitia, dare to die, and I’ll make sure your parents join you in the gravel”

Her eyes widened in horror, “You, you…” What a devil!

“Don’t delude yourself into thinking your death solves everything,” Elgin warned again, “keep thinking that way, and I promise, the real tragedy has only just begun!”

Letitia glared at him, powerless to do anything. All she could do was repeat, “I hate you, Elgin, I hate you!”

After several minutes, he twisted open a bottle of water and offered it, “Aren’t you tired of yelling? Have some water and take a break.”

Letitia didn’t take it.

“Drink” It was his usual commanding tone.

Letitia paused, then took it, only to throw it straight at Elgin!

In all of AquaCity, she was the first to dare splash water on Elgin! But the water hit nothing, Elgin dodged it with a side-step.

Letitia, fuming, threw the empty bottle at him, “I don’t want to see you, get out!”

“Too bad, you’re stuck with me for life. With that, Elgin leaned in close, saying, “I’m not letting you go, so you’re stuck with me forever. Even in death, Letitia, I’ll keep your ashes.

“You’re not afraid I’ll haunt you?”

“You couldn’t handle me alive, what storm could you possibly stir as a ghost?”

All of Letitia’s weaknesses were in his iron grip. She couldn’t argue, couldn’t fight back, couldn’t win. Furious, Letitia suddenly bit down hard on Elgin’s shoulder!

Elgin was wearing just a thin shirt. Soon, Letitia’s teeth broke through the fabric.

She bit down hard and wouldn’t let go, wishing she could tear his flesh apart.

Elgin’s hands remained unflinchingly by her side, enduring her biting without uttering a single groan. That made Letitia think she wasn’t biting hard enough, so she bit even harder.

Elgin still didn’t make a sound, but she tasted blood.

Blood seeped through his shoulder, staining his shirt red.

“Had enough? Done venting?” he asked calmly.

Letitia couldn’t speak because she was biting him, so she mumbled, “Not enough!”

“Then keep going

It wasn’t until Letitia’s teeth ached that Elgin still seemed fine.

Finally, Letitia let go, her teeth and mouth bloody.

Elgin even gently wiped the blood away for her, “Feeling better?”

She slapped his hand away.

Elgin’s lips curled slightly. “Rest up, get better, then come back to work at the company.”

She turned her face away, not wanting to lay her eyes on him.

Elgin stood for a while, then left the hospital room.

The bodyguard outside spotted the wound on his shoulder and got all worked up, “Mr. Ramirez, who did this to you?”

“It’s nothing.” he replied, cool as a cucumber.’

“You’re bleeding! I’m gonna get a doc to patch you up!”

Elgin clenched his fist and put it to his mouth, coughing again.

Just a moment ago, in front of Letitia, he had been holding back the itch in his throat, not wanting to cough in her presence. He was worned that he might pass his cold on to her.

Now, he couldn’t stop coughing.

Elgin had to laugh at himself. Why the heck was he so hung up on her?
