Chapter Forty Two

At the camp two days later, Gabriel, Jasper and James had Emily, Delaney, Rachel, Elizabeth and Audrey in Gabriel’s office. The door was locked and with good reason. Gabriel and Jasper had just told Emily and her family the truth about who Emily was and what role she had in saving the world. James made sure that Gabriel mentioned the part about Audrey’s past being connected to Emily’s past. The three had decided to wait until Friday to talk to the five girls about everything that had happened so they could take Thursday to rest and recover.

There had been a lot in the news as well. Hundreds of men and women in strange robes had been arrested outside of the local town at some sort of ruins. The police weren’t sharing that much about the arrest but there was speculation that some of the men and women were from high-ranking positions from around the world. The reports showed evidence that the people there had planned a ritual to perform. There were also reports that four horsemen had ridden away. None of the people arrested were sharing why they had been there.

Gabriel leaned back in his seat. “Do you have anything to say?” He asked the five.

Emily looked at Audrey. “So we could be distant cousins.” She said. That would be cool if they were. It meant that they would have a reason to hang out after camp was over.

Audrey smiled. “It would be cool if we were.” She told Emily. It would make her family even bigger if the two of them were cousins.

Delaney then cleared her throat. “What about Savannah?” She asked Jasper. “What are we going to do about saving her from the Darkness?” Did Emily and Audrey forget that one of their friends had been turned into a Horseman of the Apocalypse? They needed to try to save Savannah if it was even possible still.

Gabriel sighed. “It’s never been done before.” He told Delaney. “Usually when someone falls under the sway of the Darkness, they never want to leave the Darkness’s side. I doubt that saving Savannah will be that easy.” He had never tried it before. None of the Black Hand had ever wanted to become good. They believed that the Darkness would lead them into a new age.

Emily thought about it. “But Savannah didn’t do anything wrong.” She said. “Why would the Darkness want to hurt Savannah and turn her into a Horseman of the Apocalypse?” Gabriel and Jasper looked at each other but they found that they couldn’t answer Emily’s question. They weren’t sure why Savannah had been used for a Horseman of the Apocalypse. They didn’t even know who the other Horsemen of the Apocalypse were. What made Savannah so special to the Darkness?

“What happens now?” Emily then asked.

Gabriel sighed. “For now, we’ve prevented the Darkness from rising up.” He told her. “But we all know that this fight isn’t over until you’ve defeated him for good.” The five girls looked at each other nervously.

Far off in the forest, the sound of neighing could be heard from four horses. The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were riding away from the recently vacated manor. On the Horseman of War’s horse, the Horseman of War had Anastasia holding onto him as they rode. Anastasia was the last person to leave the manor. They rode past the vehicles and tents that had been left by all of the Black Hands that had been present. The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Anastasia disappeared into the forest.

In his study, Anthony and Josiah were talking. Anthony was sitting at his desk and Josiah was standing on the other side of it. “Did the ritual work?” Anthony was asking.

Josiah smiled. “It didn’t work.” He told Anthony. “Gabriel and James saved the Chosen One from the Magician.”

Anthony smiled as he heard that. “Well done.” He told Josiah before he stood up. “We now have our chance to prove to the Darkness that we’re more reliable.” The man and the demon went to the window together and looked out towards the city. “By the time we’re done, the Magician will be in our shadow.” Anthony said before he started laughing wickedly.
