Naturally, the sly and calculative Xanthakos had considered pretending to agree with James' request first but not following through afterward. However, he knew very well that the clever and cautious James would surely get him to enter into a soul contract to prevent instances like that. If Xanthakos agreed to James' terms, the situation would be completely reversed.

Instead of James helping him, it would be Xanthakos helping James to rise to the Supreme Path's position by risking everything he had.

James furrowed his brows as he observed the torn expression on Xanthakos' face.

"What's the matter? Are you aiming for the Supreme Path's position as well?"

Xanthakos snapped out of his reverie and shook his head. "Only Chosen Ones are qualified for the Supreme Path's position. I'm clearly not qualified. It's just that..." James said, "Go on."

"It's not up to me to decide who's the next Supreme Path." Xanthakos looked at him. "A complicated set of procedures is involved. First and foremost, you need the approval of the Nine Caeloros Gods of Nothingness. Otherwise..."

"You don't have to worry about that." James cut him off. "You just have to sign a soul contract stating that you'll support me in becoming the Supreme Path."

"No... No!" Xanthakos unknowingly raised his voice. "I can't possibly tamper with the impartiality of the Supreme Path's selection process. You certainly have my full support, James. However, I might lose the position of the Path Emperor if I signed that soul contract with you."

James chuckled as he took in the troubled look on Xanthakos' face.

"I'm telling you the truth, James." Xanthakos continued, "You can ask Frona if you don't believe me.

"She's the leader among the Nine Caeloros Gods of Nothingness, yet even she can't decide who gets to be the Supreme Path!"

James shrugged. "I guess I was being too ambitious."

"Make another request, James." Xanthakos was almost begging at that point.

"We need to take care of the Alcide beings left behind by the Waitara Path and seize control of the Forty-Ninth Heaven first. Only then can we think about the issue of the Supreme Path."

James took a deep breath and glanced over his shoulder in the Nothingness Formation's direction. "What do you guys think?"

"Xanthakos cannot be trusted," Harper said.

After that, the fake Lesia, Yianni, and Morgott voiced their opposition as well.

Xanthakos' expression hardened. He just could not let the words of some weaklings sabotage his plan when he was this close to succeeding.

He began, "I can't guarantee that you'll be able to secure the Supreme Path's position.

"However, what I can promise is that

"I will also help find the remaining two Xyloria Pearls you need for the Five Spirits Integration."

Xanthakos puffed up his chest. "I'm willing to enter into a soul contract with those conditions. What do you think?"

James had a pensive look on his face. In the Nothingness Formation, Harper and Hankin exchanged a glance. "He's willing to go so far to get James' help?”

"It's a false promise." Hankin

snorted. "Xanthakos needs the Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Harper cupped her cheek with one hand. "Perhaps this could be a reason for us to join the battle?"
