CHAPTER 12

CHAPTER TWELVE.

BRINLEY.

It's been three days since the King's party. And things were getting back to normal. I don't know what Thomas said to Kyle, but Kyle told me the day after the party I was no longer going to the Mortaga Kingdom.

He never said I could stay here, but I'm hoping Mrs. Bates changes his mind about that; after all, she helped me out with Gabriel. Unfortunately, I haven't got the chance to tell Thomas the good news. He hasn't come back to the pond since. No doubt he is probably beating himself up about what happened between us. I haven't told anyone, not Julia, not Katie. I figured this needed to stay between Thomas and myself.

Julia was assigned cleaning today while I had to work in the greenhouse. Not that I minded though I love it here, the smell of the plants and the beautiful roses always brightens my days.

I had to do laundry duty instead of kitchen duty tonight by the end of the day. I was exhausted. While I slipped on Julia's red bikini, getting ready for the pond as I always do. Julia was getting ready to meet Xander.

I stumbled back when this weird flash of heat came over my body. My stomach twisted in knots as I hit the floor on my knees, doubling over, clutching my stomach.

"Oh, my goddess. Brinley," Julia says, kneeling beside me. I couldn't speak. The pain was horrible. "Brinley, I need to go get doctor Jacob," Julia says, her voice laced with concern.

I groaned and curled in a ball on the floor tears were falling freely down my face as another wave of heat came over me. I cried out in pain. Beads of sweat rolled from my forehead.

"508, I'm doctor Jacob. I'm going to examine you to see what's..." He paused mid-sentence.

"Dr. Jacob, what's wrong with her?" Julia asked him. I could hear them talking, but I could not communicate from the pain.

"She's in heat," Dr. Jacob says.

Heat? Oh no! Katie warned me this would happen. But I refused to listen, but she left out how much pain I would be in.

"Heat?" Julia repeats what the Dr said. "Yes. We need to get her to the cabin. There are a lot of unmated males here." Dr. Jacob says. "Get her some Ice to help break the fever. I'll let Mrs. Bates know and have Kyle move her. Since he is mated to Katie, he will be safe around her." Dr. Jacobs says as he leaves the room.

Julia places a cold rag on my forehead. The coolness of the cloth caused me to shiver, but that only lasted a few seconds until she had to resoak it with ice water. The ice melted against my skin instantly.

"Oh, my goddess. Brinley, you're burning up. Hang in there. It will be over soon.”

The pain was getting too much for me, and I drifted in and out of consciousness.

I woke up in a bathtub full of ice. I began to panic when I saw my fingertips were blue. I tried to get out, but gentle hands pushed me back down.

"Easy. It would be best if you soaked longer. You still have a high fever." My eyes widened at the male voice, and I let my eyes roam up until I was met with Kyle's soft green eyes. "What are you doing here?" I said, trying to cover my body. Kyle rolled his eyes, "Relax. Katie had to run back to the palace to get some things, so I'm watching you until she gets back.” So he says, not even phased by the fact that I'm naked underneath all this ice.

"Where are we?" I asked, changing the subject.

"The cabin we bring all the females that go into heat here. But, trust me, too many unmated males at the palace.”

"So, as long as I soak in the ice, the heat waves stay away?" Kyle shrugs, "That's a question for Katie. I have no idea, honestly.” I nod.

"Apparently, neither do I. I never thought heat would be this painful,” I sighed. Kyle chuckled at that. "How long have I been here?"

"Five days," I frown, "My stepmom always said heat doesn't last but a day so,"

"Wait a second. Five days? How come I don't remember any of it?" Kyle sighs, "You have been in and out of it since it started,” I nod.

"Well, I think it's over now. I feel..." I couldn't finish my sentence as another heatwave choruses through my body and caused my limbs to shake uncontrollably.

Kyle's eyes widened. "Fuck. I have to go, get, Katie," He said, leaving me alone.

"Kyle, please don't lea..." "Ah," I cried, doubling over. My head was spinning, And I felt like I would pass out at any minute. I quickly get myself out of the bathtub and wrap a towel around myself.

My wobbling legs gave out, and I crawled to the small bedroom.

I was clutching my stomach and curling n ball on the floor, and crying out Kyle's name for him to come back.

Warm yet rough hands cradled my body closer. When I felt the tingles, I knew it was Thomas. He held my body close to his, and the sharp pains almost subsided.

Though the heatwaves still rushed through my veins. It was more bearable in Thomases arms. "Thomas, please help me." His body stiffened as his grip on me got tighter. "I can't." He says. "Please," I begged as another heatwave ran through me. This one was strong, causing every muscle to retract.

"You're in pain. You don't know what you're asking of me right now,”

I managed to lift my head to meet his gaze. I frowned. Thomas's eyes were black, with specks of silver swirling within them. I reach my hand up and run my fingers over his cheek, covered with five a clock shadow. His eyes closed from my touch. The tingles spread through my hand. I bite my lip. Seductively.

"Don't do that," He warns. I snake my arms around his neck and straddle him. His body stiffens, but that doesn't stop me; I still keep going.
