Chapter 58

“A plan?” Vincent snarled low, “Does it involve sacrificing us?” 

If that was what 

was what it took, but that would be my very last option. I shook my head. “No, but I do need you to help me.” I kept my eyes on the vampires. We were downwind from them and hidden between the rocks and dead vegetation. They didn’t seem particularly intent on hunting for me or any of the escaped werewolves. I was banking on Athan wanting me alive.

“I admire your spirit, Nola. But I am going to surrender myself to them. They won’t try to kill me. I am more valuable to Athan alive.” I heard Rage fully disagree with me, huffing and growling inside my head. 

Vincent rolled his eyes at me. “That defeats the purpose then. What do you need us for?” 

“I will distract them. You slip into the dungeons and get the others. Can you do that?” It sounded simple when I said it out loud, but there was no way of knowing how many of the bloodsuckers were inside. 

“You’re  insane, Amaris.” Vincent said, “It will never work.” 

“You can’t do this alone. They have weapons.” Selene frowned, “Let me help.” 

Ben pulled her to him. As I thought he had it bad for the female. 

“No, I won’t let you. I would rather help this fool.” 

They had no faith in my fighting skills and who could blame them, they didn’t know me. 

“I can do this. I just have to get close to them. I’ll kill all of them.” 

“You sure talk big.” Vincent said. “Have you ever fought vampires before?”

“Let’s do this.” Adolf cracked his knuckles together, his eyes brightened with the wolf awakening. “I would love to kick some vamp ass.” 

I limped out into the open, feigning injury and immediately had their attention. 

“Stop! Who goes there?” 

I sank down onto my knees, waving them closer with a weak hand. 

“Help me.” I grunted, peering from underneath my hair I saw them come closer, weapons drawn. 

One brave leech bent down to grab my head by the hair to pull my neck back. 

He snickered, “Would you look at that… We’ve been searching for you, Your Majesty.” He held the silver dagger against my neck. The silver burned against my skin, and he found it amusing, grinning like a fool. “Hey, can you believe our luck?” 

The others formed a circle around us, and I hoped my lucky five would take this opportunity to make their move. Because I was about to bite this leech’s hand right off his arm. 

“Are you sure it’s him? He doesn’t look like much.” The speaker pressed his crossbow against my head. The one holding onto my hair let go and kicked me in the stomach. I faked a groan and fell down at his feet. 

Another one took an interest in me. His fangs descended and he licked his lips. “He looks delicious, and I am hungry.”” 

One of the others slapped him on the back of the head. “Are you insane? Our Lord wants him alive!” 

“Just one bite, I won’t kill him.” 

While they were debating whether or not to eat me, I saw Nola and the others run into the dungeon. About  time.

Then I let Rage take over. I turned in front of their eyes and all hell broke loose. Rage ripped into them, disemboweling the closest one, moving like black lightning to the next vamp. They were too close to use their crossbows, but they had their daggers. One of them sliced the silver dagger deeply into Rage’s left shoulder. 

He let out an enraged growl that sent shockwaves through the group and they staggered back. He turned to rip into the offender, but the vamp fell to the dirt, his neck tilted at an unusual angle. 

“My pleasure.” Vincent said drily, already turning to rip the heart out of the next one. 

Adolf joined in the fray, fighting like a possessed wolf, using their weapons against them. I liked his style. Rage, his wound still bleeding from the silver–inflicted wound, didn’t hold back. The vamps fell like flies underneath his giant paws. 

Soon the vamps were nothing but ash scattered by the slight breeze. I returned to my human form. 

“Quick, we don’t have much time before more of them come to investigate.” I urged them. “Where are Ben and the females?” 

“Working on freeing the males. The females are being held in a different part of the castle.” Adolf said as we ran towards the opening. “Don’t tell them who you are though. We don’t have time for explanations.” 

Noted. 

To say I was appalled by the conditions of the males was an understatement. They were emaciated, with sores on their body that hadn’t healed. For werewolves that said a lot, because we never get sick and our ability to heal was akin to none. 

“By the Goddess…” Anger welled up like a raging flood seeing my subjects in that condition. Athan would suffer for this, he was going to face the slowest of deaths I could think of. But I needed my army to defeat him. 

“Yeah, not what you expected, is it.” Vincent scoffed. “Some of them have no will left to live, much less fight a battle against their oppressors.” 

“Speak for yourself, pup! My mate is somewhere in that forsaken place, and I will fight till my last breath

to get to her.” An older male shoved through the crowd. “There is a way into the castle from the 

tunnels.”

“Lead the way.” I wanted to get to Athan, take him back to my kingdom where I planned to get to the truth. 

“I know you.” the older male grabbed my shoulder. “I’ve seen you when you were throned when parents were killed in the war.” His face contorted into a vicious mask.

“What? Is it him? The king that sold us out to the vampires?” A murmur went up from the males that soon turned into a rumbling roar. 

“Hey, lay off! It wasn’t him. He’s come to save us!” Vincent shoved the older male away from me. “If your want to survive this then forget what you think you know. We need to get our females and get out of this realm.” 

“We don’t have much time. We need to act now while we have the element of surprise.” I forced my Alpha King aura on them to get them to quiet down. “Lead the way, old man!”
