Chapter 66

The images flooded my mind, repeatedly and no matter how many times I tried to stop them, they kept on playing on repeat. I kept telling myself that it was Athan fucking with my head that she would never give in to him. 

Rage kept me sane, kept me from hurting her, taking control when I felt unreasonable anger boiling- through my veins. Seeing her in Athan’s arms, his hands roving her body, his fangs into her neck sinking into her neck, it was too much. The vision of him mounting her while she lay tied to a bed, writhing and moaning under him kept on flashing through my mind as I  her. 

Now as she lay in my arms and I pretended to be asleep, holding her close to me, letting her scent calm my mind. Or at least trying to. 

One of my concerns was the refugee wolves and what to do with them. Would they want to be incorporated into my pack after everything that happened? Did they still believe I sold them out to the vampires? 

But that was only one of the many problems that occupied my thoughts. Sorin and his involvement with Athan. That was the thorn in my side, and it kept on turning. 

“You’re not sleeping?” 

I opened my eyes to find her brown eyes flecked with gold staring into mine. Smiling lazily at her I pulled her closer to  her softly. 

“Resting and enjoying having you close to me. But right now, I’m starving.” Which wasn’t a lie, I haven’t eaten in days, surviving on adrenaline and anger. 

Her cheeks pinked up. “Then I will make us something right away.” She got up to grab her robe, but I pulled her back. 

“No, you are not my servant. 

Rhona can do it. Im not letting you out of my sight.” I linked her right away and she responded immediately. “Done.” I wanted to take my time looking at her body. The sight of her

I laid my head on her belly listening to the faint flutter of the life inside her womb. Who I prayed to the Goddess was mine. If not, I vowed to end its life before it had a chance to take a breath. 

“Amaris…” Her fingers gentled through my hair. “What will you do now? Will the other Realms declare war on us?” I heard the concern in her voice. 

“Sorin is being dramatic.” I said without lifting my head. “Athan must pay for his crimes. The other Realms have nothing to fear from us if they didn’t have a hand in it.” I had no problem with the other supernatural realms. But if they wanted to make it their problem, I wasn’t about to back down. 

‘Food is served in your salon, Your Majesty.‘ Rhona said through our link.

“Slowly, my love.” Raine giggled, “You’ll bite off your fingers.” She wasn’t eating much, just nibbling on her food. 

“The last meal I had was a damn rodent.” I told her, my stomach roiled in disgust remembering it. 

“I’m sorry.” She said and wiped the corner of my mouth with her fingers, and I took them into my mouth to suck off the meat juices. The way she gasped, and her pupils dilated had me hard in an instant. I wanted to bend her over the table and take her right there. 

But we were interrupted by Ross. His scent reached me before he knocked at the door. 

“Enter.” I was far from pleased by his presence. Still angry at him for letting Raine slip through the portal and some part of me was jealous that he had spent so much time with her, although that was according to my instructions. 

“I’m sorry to disturb you, Your Majesties. But I really need to speak to you.” Ross said, shifting about uncomfortably.

“Well then speak.” I wasn’t about to let Raine leave. I fed her bits of meat from my plate, concerned that 

she ate so little. 

Ross cleared his throat. “It’s the Prince. He’s planning to go to the Supernatural Council. You have to do something, Your Majesty. Announce your pregnancy publicly. Refute the allegations that the queen is carrying the Vampire King’s heir.” 

“Who says that?!” I roared at him, my chair crashed back onto the carpet and Raine scrambled off my lap. “Who dares to say that?” Of course, it could only be my brother. I got in his face, clawing at his shirt, our noses touching. 

“He’s going to the council to dispute your right to the throne, Amaris. One of the arguments is that Raine is not fit to be queen being a witch and that…” 

“A what?!” I slammed Ross into the wall. “This is ridiculous.” 

Raine laid a calming hand on my arm. “Amaris, please. Let’s hear what he has to say.” 

I shoved away from Ross, went and poured myself a stiff drink. 

Raine was pale but stood stiffly next to Ross, hugging her arms to her body. “There’s something your should know, Amaris.,” she said. 

I didn’t want to hear it. If this was what I thought it was, I didn’t want to hear it. But what she said next took me completely by surprise. 

“Joanna told me I come from a bloodline of mages. I think my father might be a warlock.” Her eyes were large and luminous in her pale face. “But this baby, this pup I have growing inside me is yours, Amaris. I know it with my whole heart.” 

I took two steps, and she was in my arms. Where she belonged. My heart had come close to stopping but she had restarted it with those words. 

“I don’t care if you are the Devil’s daughter. You are mine.” I groaned into her hair, taking a deep breath, taking in her essence. “And this is mine.” I laid my hand on her belly. 

Ross cleared his throat. “Well then, can I make this a public announcement then, Your Majesties?”

between us, Raine. They will have to accept it.”
