The Alpha King’s Virgin by Charmeleon (Raine & Amari)
The Alpha King’s Virgin by Charmeleon Chapter 73

Chapter 73

RAINE

This was spiraling out of control. Amaris could barely keep his wolf in check as he glared at the emissaries. Especially the dragon shifter. He was focused on the tall, dark man, following his movements with the intensity of a wolf stalking his prey.

The silver–haired elf girl in turn watched Amaris with an enigmatic smile playing around her mouth corners. I didn’t know much about the fae folk, only what I’ve heard people saying that they are fickle and prone to tricks. What I did know was I hated the way she looked at Amaris. Like he could be her next meal.

The elders spoke in muted tones to each other and frequently I caught them staring at me. Probably wondering when I was going to do something magical. Dear Goddess, I wished I had control over what the hell was happening to me. I still had to go to Joanna with all of my questions. She was the only one I could trust with this power.

While we were waiting for Sorin to be brought up from the dungeons, the servants came laden with trays of a variety of food and drink to serve us. The sight and smell of the food made me sick to my stomach. I choked down the bile rising to my throat as waved the servant away, taking only the fruity drink.

“Are you alright? You barely ate this morning.” He squeezed my hand lightly. “Don’t let them get to you. I won’t let anything keep us apart, my love.”

I swallowed down the fear and doubt with the drink and smiled thinly back at him. “I’ll be fine. I just wish we could get this day over with.”

“You and me both, my queen.” He lifted my hand to  my fingertips, our eyes meeting and in that brief moment everything else faded away.

“I love you, Amaris.” Desperate words whispered, meant only for him.

He leaned closer and cupped my face in his palm. He had the most serious expression when he stared into my eyes. “And I love you, Raine. Always.” It was the first time he said those words to me. It should have filled me with

happiness, but instead it felt like goodbye, and it broke my heart.  Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Yes, he told me nothing would keep us apart, but I was scared that he might do something desperate that would destroy us all. If only I could read his thoughts

The tense atmosphere only needed the slightest spark to ignite into an inferno. Bringing Sorin into the throne room could very well be that spark.

The double oak doors opened and Sorin, accompanied by two guards. stomped into the throne room. Despite being unshaven and clothes rumpled from being slept in he carried himself with as much dignity as he could. gather, holding his head high and his shoulders squared. He was the prince,

after all.

The two brothers glared daggers at each other across the wide room, neither wanting to be the first to break the contact.

“You have your wish, Sorin. The emissaries are here to hear your grievances. So, let’s hear it.” Amaris said bitingly, “I have a few of my own,” he added.

I laid my hand on Amaris‘ arm for support. It seemed he didn’t even notice; his focus was on his brother.

Sorin stroked over his blonde stubbled chin with one hand. “I do apologize for my unkempt appearance.” He attempted to charm the two women with his dimpled smile, but they watched him with blank faces.

“Get on with it.” Amaris snarled.

“So impatient. As always.” Sorin smirked. “Well, Brother. I will get to the point. I sent an email to the council to have you removed from the throne because you have become a danger to the kingdom and the rest of the supernatural world. Because of her!” he pointed at me, and his face contorted into an ugly snarl. “She has my brother bewitched.”

I had to stop myself not to roll my eyes at him.

Amaris‘ jaw ticked as he clamped his teeth together and his hands turned into claws on the golden armrests. But he kept silent. You could hear a pin drop in the throne room.

Pendragon was the first to speak to break the heavy silence. “Those are serious allegations. Do you have any proof? Let me remind you that this is not a trial, Your Highness. It is for the three of us to decide if we should take this to the council.”

I watched as Sorin puffed himself up to provide his proof, but Amaris stopped him by holding up his hand.

“Enough of this bullshit! If you want the throne so badly, Sorin. Let us settle this like the werewolves we are. Challenge me for the position and we’ll battle it out. Like we should have done years ago.” Amaris pushed himself off his seat. He looked directly at Pendragon. “There is no need to concern yourself with our internal affairs, Pendragon. And you can take that to the council.”

Sorin’s pale face went even paler and then two red spots appeared on his cheeks. “Oh that’s right! Now you want to fight when you’re pushed into a corner.”

Amaris hollered out in a fit of laughter. “Pushed into a corner? You mistake me for a rat?” He chuckled, regaining his composure.

The elders sat on the edge of their seats ready to intervene if Amaris should decide to attack.

“C’mon, Sorin. You’re the only rat here. Colluding with Athan to taint my reputation by sacking those smaller wolf packs in my name and selling them to the vampire.” Amaris didn’t look at Sorin directly. He addressed the elders. as well as the emissaries.

“You don’t have proof of that. Lies! All of it!” Sorin screamed at Amaris, his face turned scarlet.

“Are you sure?” Amaris stepped down off the podium and walked leisurely towards his brother. He seemed dangerously calm.

I forgot to breathe.

Sorin took a step back.

“The only reason you are still alive is because I promised our father before our parents went into battle that I would be my brother’s keeper. That I would

protect you because you weren’t strong enough. Well, I am done, Sorin. Done.” Amaris sounded tired.

“Protect me? All you’ve done since we were pups was to humiliate me, making me feel like I was nothing!” Sorin snarled at him. “And it never stopped, Amaris. You never take my opinions seriously. You’re just like Father!”

Amaris nodded. “Yes, I am like him. But I am not him. In one week I will fight you to the death.”
