The Alpha King’s Virgin by Charmeleon Chapter 81

Chapter 81

AMARIS

Vincent followed me to my office where we found Ross at work on my laptop. He looked up briefly to acknowledge my presence.

“I am almost done, Your Majesty. It just needs your approval.” His gaze landed on Vincent. “What’s he doing here?”

“This is Vincent, he is one of the…”

Ross interrupted, which stunned me. “Rescues, I know.”

Vincent snarled at him, “When you say it like that we sound like strays. We’re not.”

“What’s gotten into you, Ross?” Normally I wouldn’t take this kind of disrespect lightly, but Ross was under a considerable amount of pressure, so I let it slide. Just this once.

“I’m sorry, Your Majesty. I’m having a hard time drafting this decree.” He rubbed his temples. “You’re going to face a hell of a lot of resistance. You’ve received countless emails from the Alphas of the pack in our region as well as those from all over the world. The news has spread like wildfire and already there are reports coming in of unrest amongst the packs. Some of them demand you step down.” He removed himself from my seat and ran a hand through his short brown hair. “We are being threatened with war.”

I wasn’t going to be intimidated by threats. “Let them come. But right now, we have an integration ceremony to prepare for.”

“You want to do this today? With everything else that’s happening?” he screwed up his face. “Are you sure about this?”

Vincent answered him. “Look, Beta Ross, I know this seems like an unnecessary undertaking right now, but His Majesty needs all the support he can get. The wolves are fighting amongst themselves…”

“I know that! What the hell do you think I’ve been doing this whole time?” Ross slapped his hand on my desk. “I’ve spent most of my time trying to put out fires. Who are you anyway?”

“The person who helped the king fight his way through the vampire realm. Where were you when we were trapped and being sucked dry?” Vincent jutted his chin forward, feet planted firmly, ready to fly into action.

“Enough!” I stood between the two of them. “You’re behaving like pups!” I glared at them until they dropped their heads. “Vincent, go gather the others and find Lord Grayson. I will be with you shortly.”

“And yes, I am doing this tonight!” I turned to a brooding Ross. “There’s a full moon tonight. Perfect for the ceremony. And I want everyone to attend.” This would also be the opportune time to gauge my subjects’ loyalties.

Ross nodded. “I will arrange it, Your Majesty.”

“Good, now leave me.” I dismissed them and went to sit behind my desk. Raine should have been here with me. It was customary for both parties to attend the ceremony and there would be questions and speculations. But I would deal with it.

Sifting through the emails, marking those who congratulated me on my decision to do away with the antiquated laws. There were not that many, as expected and most of them were my closest allies.

I read through the decree, making minor adjustments where I deemed necessary and sent it through to the council and everyone on my mailing list. Ross was right, there would most likely be an uprising, even war, but I was prepared for it.

What concerned me the most was Raine and this power she needed to control. If only I could find out more about her father, who and what he was. Maybe he was still alive. I still haven’t heard back from the guards I sent after them to keep her safe. It made me uneasy, and I decided to go for a run after the ceremony to find her. Just to make sure she was safe and to calm Rage. He paced the recesses of my mind relentlessly, berating me for letting her go.

Chapter 81

Elder Mattias brought me my crown and my sword. Elder Jonas carried the chalice in which I will pour my blood for the new pack members to drink, linking them to me and the rest of my pack.

“Sire, your decree has caused an uproar already.” Elder Jonas said as we made our way to the stone circle where the ceremony was to take place.

“I didn’t expect less.” I answered.

The setting sun turned the sky to fire in the west and bathed the black stone circle in its crimson light. The remaining of the rescued wolves were waiting for me in the middle of it while the rest of the pack were busy preparing for the feast, lighting fires to roast meat and setting up tables. It was good to see them laughing and joking amongst themselves. There would be plenty of food, drink and music to entertain them to try and lighten the heavy mood that had settled on the castle for the last months. We all needed that.

“The queen, Sire? Why is she not here?” Elder Jonas asked watching while the servants prepared my place where Raine and I would sit to watch the celebrations. Her chair was strikingly empty and reminded me how I missed her sweet face. Although she hasn’t been gone for more than a few hours, to me it felt like days.

“She had an urgent matter to attend to.” I dismissed him curtly and took my place at the table.

A pale moon made its appearance as the sun finally went to its resting place and a quiet settled on the waiting crowd. I walked to the middle of the stone circle where Vincent and the others knelt. A handful of she-wolves had stayed, some of them were fortunate enough to have met their mates and were happy to be part of the pack.

“We have cause for celebration as these young wolves are here to pledge their oath to me as their King and Alpha and to you, my fellow pack members.” There was some cheering and clapping and I waited for it to subside before I went on. “As we wait for the moon to bless this integration, I have an announcement to make.”

I scanned their faces watching to see who of them would react negatively to what I was about to say. “I have sent a decree out to all the packs and the whole of the supernatural world that I, Amaris Black, have changed the laws that prohibit us from mating with other races.”

“So, it’s true then? The Queen is a witch?” someone spoke up from within the safety of the crowd.

Another voice rang out, “Mark my words, there is going to be a disaster! Our traditions are sacred!”

A murmur of disapproval went up from the crowd and tempers flared as arguments erupted.

“Maybe you shouldn’t have done that, Your Majesty.” Vincent said as he and the other male wolves formed a protective line in front of me.

“Silence!” I roared in full force at them. “Those of you who have objections will have your chance to bring it to the throne. But for now, you will be quiet!”

I waited until they bowed their heads in submission. “Now let us continue. Elder Jonas….” I motioned to him to bring the

chalice.

The moon was now at its summit, hanging round and pale in the cloudless sky when, out of nowhere a shadow moved in front of it, blacking it out and we were thrown into complete darkness.

“It’s a bad omen! The king has brought evil to us!” It took one voice to ignite the chaos that followed.
