Chapter 84

RAINE

I remembered running towards the scream with Rhona close on my heels. I wasn’t prepared for what I saw. Dark shapes surrounded Joanna, trapping her between them. She screamed at me to run, and Rhona rushed forward to help her mother only to be swept to the side by an unseen force. I heard her back break against the rocks, and she lay still.

“Let her go!” I yelled at them, drawing the power of nature into myself, feeling it fill me up from my feet to my hands. I was about to unleash it when I was whipped up by a strong wind, spinning me up into the air, higher and higher and faster and faster. Then I knew nothing more.

“I’m sorry, Magus! I assure you she wasn’t hurt.” I heard a female voice say.

“Then why is she covered in blood and guts!” a deep male voice boomed out and I heard footsteps approaching.

I lay still on the stone floor, pretending to be unconscious to try and buy time. I needed to scope out my surroundings and find some way to escape. My biggest fear was that it was Athan that abducted me again, but that concern was soon replaced by another one.

“I need to find out more about her. She could be my daughter.”

His daughter? The Magus? Those words made me freeze where lay, my heart doing somersaults in my chest. The footsteps stopped near me.

“I know you’re awake. Sit up.” His voice was deep and demanding.

I sat up like he said and when our eyes met, I stifled a gasp. He was broad-shouldered with blonde hair slightly greying at the temples, a strong, regal face with high cheekbones and a well-defined chin. We had the same eye color but that didn’t mean we were related.

“Why am I here?” I demanded rising to my full height, my back rigid. He was as tall as Amaris and intimidating looking. But I wasn’t about to let him see that he made me nervous. “Amaris will find me, and he will make you pay for what lid.”

“I’m sure he will.” His lip twitched into something that didn’t even resemble a smile. “Joyce, get her cleaned up stinking up the place.” He turned his broad back to me.  Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ Find ɴøᴠel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Hey, I’m not done talking to you.” He never answered me. I reached out and touched his arm and like lightning h my wrist and twisted it to the point of breaking. I couldn’t stop the whimper that left my lips. I went down on my he didn’t let up. My eyes brimmed with tears of pain, but I still glared up at him.

“Little girl, we’ll talk when I say we talk. And don’t think you can try any of your little magic tricks here. It won’t work.” H released my wrist, and I noticed his grip had left a red mark like it had been burnt into my skin.

Joyce helped me up. “Follow me, please Raine.”

Reluctantly I followed her down a spiral staircase to a bathroom. “Did you kill Joanna and Rhona? Was that you?” I could still hear Rhona’s bones snapping when her body hit that rock and it fuelled my anger.、

“No, of course not. We wouldn’t kill one of our own. And as far as I know she isn’t dead.” Joyce said without bothering to look at me. She tapped her long fingernails on the washbasin.

“Oh! Well, that is comforting!” I snapped at her. “Why have you brought me here? And who the hell is that awful man?”

She shoved a towel at me and turned to run the taps in the shower. “I’ll get you some clean clothes.”

She was about to leave but I grabbed her arm, letting my claws out a bit, grazing her skin. “I want answers. Don’t ignore me!”

“And you will get them. The High Magus will fill you in.” She looked at me pointedly until I released her arm. “Now take a

That remained to be seen.

One of the witches, a petite woman with blue hair and so many facial piercings it made my eyes hurt to look at her came to take me to the dining room where judging by the mouth-watering aroma, dinner was being served.

The High Magus sat at the head of a long table in the center of the room and seven women were seated on either side. They all turned to stare at me. Some were smiling and some were staring at me like I was a curious insect.

The Magus waved me to the end of the table. “Sit down. Eat.” He sounded almost like a gracious host. Which he wasn’t.

Hunger won over the anger I felt, and naturally, I had to think about my baby, so I ate without hesitation. Not bothering to look at anyone or speaking I just gobbled everything on my plate.

“At least there’s nothing wrong with your appetite.” He said and some of the women giggled.

I put my knife and fork down harder than I normally would have. “I am pregnant. In case you

didn’t know.”

“I am aware of that, Raine. And that is the reason you are here. We cannot allow your child to become the heir of the Werewolf Realm.”

My jaw dropped to the floor, and I was stunned speechless for a few minutes. “Excuse me? What?”

He is much too powerful. You see, the power you think you have, comes from him. It’s not you.” He rose from his seat, leaning forward with his hands on the table. “And we cannot allow the other realms to get their hands on this power. So, you must remain here until the baby is born.”

“You can’t do this?! He is Amaris’ child!” I jumped up toppling the chair over. How I wished I could let Tasha out to rip into this man who may or may not be my father.

“Leave us!” He spoke to the seven women around the table and obediently they rose and left the two of us glaring at each other.
