TWELVE YEARS LATER

"Good job, Li! Now finish him off."

With one quick jab to his throat, I sliced straight through his windpipe with my claws, watching the blood spill out down my hand, as he gasped for air.

I pulled my sharp nails out and shook my hand off flinging the liquid onto the ground. I watched as his eyes rolled into the back of his head and his limp body fell to the ground into a puddle of his own blood.

I turned around and walked back to the woods, shifting quickly into my silvery grey wolf, running into the dark night as my long fur whipped around me in the wind.

I had just completed my 50th kill and Alpha Romero and Damon wanted to celebrate. I wasn't the type to party but they promised it would just be us.

We got back to the pack house just as the sun was rising. I stopped and peered out at the horizon. Why couldn't my life have been simpler? I should be celebrating my 19th birthday next week but instead I'm here celebrating something way more gruesome and horrific.

Shaking my head, I needed to forget my feelings, I didn't have time for that. I was a trained killer and soon I would be doing it for money.

Damon ran past me into the backyard and shifted back, grabbing us some clothes from the bucket we keep outside.

I shifted shortly after, looking down at my body full of blood and dirt. I had become numb to the sight of it but there was always something about the smell that still got to me. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

I put on the t-shirt and sweat pants that he handed me and walked behind him into the house.

"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN YOU LOST HIM?" Alpha Romero roared from his office.

"Oh shit! Drew's in trouble this time. He lost the Rogue he was suppose to kill. That's the fourth one this month." Damon said as he jogged upstairs to help defuse the situation.

I smirked at the thought of Drew not being able to keep the filthy beast subdued long enough to rip his throat out. He never was much of a murderer, he was too soft.

Me? I was ruthless. I guess it's just the way I was taught. Damon trained me well but Drew's experiences were always easier. The truth is, he just wasn't beastly enough.

Grabbing a banana off the table, I ran up the stairs to my room to get cleaned up.

An hour later I was finally clean and had actually managed to scrub the rest of the smell of rotten mutt off of me.

Killing never satisfied me per se, it was just a job. And I was the best. Not to toot my own horn but no one had ever achieved 50 kills at the age of 18. No one! Until me.

Damon called me to tell me the earlier situation was dealt with and Alpha Romero needed to see me in his office.

I threw on a long sleeve tee, some skinny jeans along with my combat boots and headed to his office. I grabbed a scarf and threw it around my neck letting my hair fall in long waves over my shoulders.

Black was always my favorite color so it was safe to say I was born to be this way. But having someone like these two actually believe in me, that was what made it so easy.

I knocked on his door "Alpha Romero?"

"Come in Li."

Suddenly my body started giving off warning signals telling me to stand guard. I never doubted my instincts so I quickly checked my weapons and made sure I stayed as close to the door as I could.

As soon as I entered, the smell of spearmint invaded my nostrils. I nearly gagged on the smell but I didn't want to seem weak so I swallowed down the bile that threatened to rise in my throat.

I peered in cautiously and saw a tall man with tattoos all over his arms and a shiny metal bar sticking through his nose. I snuck in taking advantage that he nor Alpha Romero knew I was in there.

Placing my hand on my side where my knife always sits, I cleared my throat alerting them I was inside.

"Ah Li, I didn't hear you come in. Good girl! Bishop, this is Li, Li this is Alpha Bishop."

I eyed him suspiciously as Alpha Romero continued talking to him. Keeping my back against the wall next to the door, I bent my knee and rested my foot against it as well and nodded my head once, never looking into his eyes.

Lesson 29: Never look your target in their eyes, until you kill them. They can sense danger and will always try to attack or escape. And goddess did I hate runners, little pussies. Oh who was I fooling, I loved the chase.

"Li, Alpha bishop needs someone from a neighboring pack taken care of. I'll let him explain the details but then after, we celebrate."

My ears perked up the opportunity of my first hit for hire. My adrenaline was pumping and I couldn't wait to hear more.

"The target is a bit of a slimy creature. I have never really been fond of him but I also can't rid of him myself. He's been accused of several crimes against some females in my pack but no one will come forward so he keeps getting off free. He's also the Alpha's son and is set to take over in a few years." Bishop spoke with so much disgust in his tone.

I tried to contain my excitement but my smile betrayed me. Who gets excited about killing someone? I do!

"Where can I find this asshat?" I asked him releasing the death grip on my knife that I didn't realize I had been holding.

"He's from the Northridge pack. It's two hours east of here. You'll probably find him in a bar trying to seduce his next unsuspecting victim. Your Alpha has his picture and a full description including his name. I want him gone before the next full moon."

"That's in two weeks!" I sighed and crossed my arms over my chest.

"Yes and the sooner you do it, the better. I'll be expecting your call. Good night." He shook Alpha Romero's hand and walked out.

I watched as he glided across the floor and out the door, I continued staring for a while to make sure he didn't come back, when Damon strolled in.

"Ready to party?" He said with a bottle of Tequila in one hand and scotch in another.

I grabbed the bottle of scotch and twisted the top off, then took a long drag of the brown colored liquid, hissing as it burned my throat going down. I pulled it away from my lips and wiped my mouth with the back of my hand.

Damon chuckled to himself as Alpha Romero slapped his hand to his head and said "I guess someone will have to teach her how to properly drink scotch."

I shrugged me shoulders with a smug smile and said "I think it tastes better this way. Now weren't we about to celebrate something?" I said while telling my finger to my chin.

"Oh yeah. ME!" Then I walked over to the desk and grabbed Damon's hand pulling him outside to the car.
