Chapter 7

The betrayed Luna-

“How is she?” Thorne asks, looking back at the woman lying on the bed unconsciously. His alpha was unsettled at the prospect of losing his mate after all of this while. Here he was now with the pack doctor who had checked up on her.

The man palmed his l*ps into a thin line, looking back at her frail state. “I’m going to be very candid, your grace. She’s not doing well. She has a high fever that should have been suppressed already but I’m afraid her wolf is too weak to fight back. I can tell she’s recently had a miscarriage and wasn’t taken care of properly. She has some internal bleeding but overall she would be okay.” He related to the man.

Thorne glanced back at her, his eyes filled with questions he couldn’t say. The doctor cleared his throat awkwardly, it was clear he wanted to say something more but couldn’t “speak.” Thorne commands and the man nods anxiously. “I’m sorry to say, Your Grace but she has been heavily tortured and..” he trailed off pathetically, feeling sympathetic towards the woman who laid on the bed. He could tell she’d had it rough with the heavy bruises on her b*dy and the clear malnutrition.

“I didn’t do this if that’s what you’re thinking.” Thorne spat out, feeling the need to defend himself. His alpha couldn’t even take the insinuation that he hurt his mate. The doctor’s eyes widened at how clear and direct his words were. “Ah, Forgive me, your grace, I would never assume anything of that sort.” He fumbled out. Throne rolled his eyes, dismissing the doctor casually, his eyes back to the frail figure on the bed, ignoring the curious gaze of the doctor even as he walked out of the room.

Thorne walked towards the bed, his hands slid into his pocket, he gazed at the woman, his eyes heavy and acceding beefy bruise she had sustained. ‘The traitor‘ her previous pack alpha had declared her. He watched the slow rise and fall of her chest. She was nothing but skin and bones, clearly starved and teething malnutrition. Her skin had gone whiter like that of a ghost, her l*ps, a mixture of purple and blue. Even in her unconscious state, she looked disturbed.

Thorne wondered if she had truly betrayed her pack. Would the moon goddess give him a traitor as a mate after all the centuries he’s waited for his mate? After Al the longing land the constant disappointment he’s gone through and eventually has to move on.

He looks at her one last time and walks out of the room. He paused at the door on seeing Nathan standing outside the door, clearly waiting for him. The beta stills as soon as he sees him, his eyes flickering into the room before Thorne shuts it. A flare of protectiveness rose

inside of him.

Nathan furrows his eyebrows “You were in there for a while even after the doctor left. Everything good?” The beta asks and Thorne nods.

“You choose her for yourself,” Nathan says again, making Thorne look at him suspiciously.

“Yes.”

“You don’t do that. You don’t concern yourself in matters pertaining to the slaves.” Nathan reminds him. Throne sighed internally. He didn’t need anyone to recite it to him. He knew what he did back then and now…  Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FɪndNovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“So?” Thorne asked as he began to walk, not wanting to have whatever this conversation was outside.

Nathan sighs exasperatedly, walking beside him as though trying to prove a point which he was trying to do by the way. “So, you don’t do that. You don’t worry about a slave, you don’t ask the doctor to check on her, you ask the healer to do his job! You don’t take her to a private room in your quarters. You certainly don’t act worried.” Nathan spells it out fully just as they arrive at his study, the two stand in front of the door, Nathan’s eyes on Thorne.

Thorne sighed wistfully. The moon goddess just had to give him a mate right now when he didn’t need one. When he has long forgotten about having a mate. When he has gotten rid of the thought.

“What’s

your point, Nathan.”

Nathan looks at him, dead in the eye “My point is why? Why are you doing all of these? What is she to you?” He asks. Thorne stared at him, unblinking, his alpha chanting ‘mate‘ over and over again. He felt like a pup whose crush had just accepted his confession. Sick to his stomach, he swallows, placing his hand over the doorknob.

“I want a report on all of them that were deployed today, In a month, I want to pick the useful ones. Also, have Alpha Jermaine come see me. We have scores to settle.” He pulled the door open

and walked in, ignoring the question Nathan asked. He had no clear answer except for the fact that she was his mate.

Natalie stirred awake, blinking back the blurriness in her eyes, she swallowed, feeling thirsty like she’d been walking in the desert for months. She looks around the room and panic settles in her veins when she sees the ceiling. She might have stayed in the slave quarters

Natalie sits up, ignoring the pain that shoots up her abdomen and the wave of drowsiness that hits her.

“Oh, shit.” She murmured, holding her head in her hands like that would help with the ache in her head. She slowly lifts her head and looks around the room. The walls were painted in pristine, clear white. The walls were adorned with different portraits, giving it a simplistic look. In one corner was a chair and table set with a lamp over the table. The place was certainly not the silver rain pack and definitely not the scrawny slave quarters she had been

  1. in.

The door opens abruptly and Natalie freezes, all the alarms in her head going off. Should she pretend to still be unconscious or should she? The train of thought dies down when she sees the person who had come in.

Thorne stood by the door, clearly not expecting her to be conscious especially not after what the doctor had told him. Natalie jumps off the bed in panic on seeing the one person she wants to avoid. Her knees give out and she almost falls to the ground for the second time.

She didn’t hit the ground this time as someone had his hands around her shoulders to help hold her up. Natalie’s cheeks burn bright red at the contact, she gulps hard, slowly looking up to the man. She gasped lowly at the close proximity, his face inches away from hers, his eyes searching hers for something she couldn’t pinpoint.

He suddenly drops his hand from her shoulders like it burned. Natalie swallows hard, his firewood scent engulfing every part of her senses.

“I–I’m so sorry, your grace. I didn’t think you would- please forgive me, I- I promise it wasn’t intentional. I didn’t” Thorne cocks an eyebrow up. What exactly was she apologizing for?

“How do you feel now? Better?” He asked, stopping in her ‘rant.‘

Natalie stops, blinking twice as though she couldn’t believe it. “I’m fine, your grace. Thank you for asking. I’m really sorry for.” He cuts her off again.

“Stop apologizing.”

Natalie is left gaping again. “O–of course. Forgive me. I would be out of here immediately. I’m so-” This time she stops herself. She’s apologized twice in the same sentence when he clearly asked her not to.”

Thorne tilts his head sideways “Why will you be out of here?” He asked, his eyes boring into hers without a semblance of shame. Natalie felt hot at the attention from him. It was weird yet she craved it.

“I- The room assigned to us is not here.” She trailed off slowly, feeling incompetent for not being able to speak sensibly.

“Did you not hear me before you went unconscious? You stay with me. You’re mine. Therefore you’d stay close to me.”
