Before she could finish her sentence, Brittany’s hand flew up and delivered a stinging slap, knocking Joie to the floor with a thud!
“You dare hit me?” Joie’s eyes blazed with fury, aching to turn Brittany into dust.
Brittany sneered, “And what if I did?”
She grabbed a vase from nearby and hurled it at Joie with all her might. It crashed against her head, blood gushing from the wound.
Joie screamed in pain but refused to back down, “Brittany, this is assault!”
Rolling up her sleeves, Brittany straddled over Joie, fists flying, “Assault? I’m just getting started! You hurt my son, and you scarred my face. I’ve been itching to get my hands on you.”
Brittany’s blows were heavy, and within moments, Joie was dizzy from the slaps.
Fearing for her life, Joie pleaded, “Stop, please stop. I get it. I’m sorry-really sorry…”
Brittany spat in contempt and unleashed a few more harsh slaps until Joie could no longer speak, lying on the ground and gasping for breath.
After releasing her rage, Brittany stood up, dusted off her clothes, and looked down at Joie with disdain.
“Do you really think, after harming my son and me, that I’d let you just walk out of Imperial City?”
Joie’s eyes widened in shock, “You were behind this?”
Impossible. How could Brittany let Isaac’s hard work go to waste?
“Enjoy the show.”
Brittany left, and only then did the bodyguards come in.
Seeing Joie battered and bruised, they helped her up, “Ms. Joie, you look pretty rough. We’ve called a doctor, just hang tight.”
“Get lost!” Joie pushed them away furiously. “Where were you when I was being beaten? Bro Isaac hired you to protect me!”
These idiots! Didn’t they know she was the one in charge?
The bodyguard, unfazed by the push, remained calm.
“Sorry, Ms. Joie, but Ms. Dustin is our boss.”
Isaac and Brittany’s marriage was a done deal, they knew who their real boss was.

Joie felt as if her lifeline had been seized, unable to utter a word.
The doctor arrived in haste.
Upon seeing Joie’s wounds, he frowned; clearly, she was badly hurt…
“Doctor, please, I’ve been attacked. I want to press charges. Can you provide a medical report?” Joie pleaded with the doctor while the bodyguards were away.
The doctor treated her silently.
“I have money. I can pay you whatever amount you want.”
Brittany had hit her, and she couldn’t swallow that pride!
The doctor remained silent throughout the treatment.
Once done, he prescribed some ointment with instructions and left.
Joie was indignant. “Don’t go, I can pay you!”
The doctor strode away.
The bodyguard, standing by the door, said coldly, “Ms. Joie, he’s one of ours, and you can’t
persuade him.”.
The door shut with a resounding “click”.
Livid, Joie kicked the wall, the pain nearly sending her to the grave.
The bodyguard heard her cry of pain but ignored it.
After all, he wasn’t on Joie’s payroll. What did her pain have to do with him?
Brittany’s assault on Joie didn’t escape Isaac’s attention. He found out that very night.
When the topic came up, Brittany was sipping her soup, swallowing the savory bone broth before looked up at Isaac. “What, feeling sorry for her?”
“That’s not what I meant.” Isaac, of course, was not sympathetic, “If you wanted to vent, letting the bodyguards handle it would have been enough. Why get your own hands dirty?”
Wouldn’t that give their enemies something to talk about?
Brittany set her soup spoon down. “She almost ruined my face. Do you think I’d let her get away with it?”
Isaac felt a chill as Brittany’s serene gaze met his. “The thing with the police, was that your doing?”
