Frances’ bedroom was massive, with just the bedroom alone nearly 100 square feet, including a gigantic rotating bookshelf. Daisy, looking at the books on the shelf, asked, “Have you read all these books?” 

“Yep, read them all.” Frances had been lying in bed for a long time, barely going out and occasionally heading to the garden for some fresh air. Most of his time was spent reading. 

He got off the bed, picked up his cane and walked slowly towards Daisy, “If you like, you can take one.” 

Daisy suddenly heard a voice from behind her. She turned around to see Frances standing behind her, which startled her. The book in her hand fell to the floor. Frances bent down to pick it up, and his fingers touched Daisy’s. Her fingers were soft, and she seemed to have a faint smell of fruity sweetness, maybe like orange candy. 

Very sweet and pleasant. 

Frances was also surprised by this sudden sensation. 

“I got it. I’ll pick it up.” Daisy’s cheeks were a bit pink, The man’s fingers were a bit cold. His fingertips were cold, even under the blankets. He must be really sick. With this thought, she felt a slight pain in her heart. 

“I’ll just borrow one. I read really fast, and I can return it to you tomorrow.” Daisy said quickly.

As Daisy left the bedroom, she seemed to be in a good mood. Even John seemed nicer. As she went downstairs, John’s gaze followed her, becoming more and more complicated. John knocked on the bedroom door, and after getting permission, he entered, seeing Frances standing in front of the bookshelf with his cane. 

“Mr. Frances, what book do you want? I can get it for you.” John asked. 

“Did Miss Daisy leave?” Frances asked. 

“She just went downstairs. She should be in the living room with Mina now.” John answered. 

Frances said, “Don’t be so nervous. I think she is quite nice.” 

‘Miss Daisy does seem nice, but people are unpredictable. Have you forgotten what Mina did before?” John said. 

Frances seemed to be in some pain and closed his eyes, “Of course, I haven’t forgotten.” 

When Daisy went downstairs, she saw Mina sitting in the living room, seemingly waiting for her. She walked over and said, “Mrs. Pearson.” 

Mina immediately noticed the book in Daisy’s hand, “It seems you had a good chat with Frances.” 

“We chatted for a while. He likes to read, so I borrowed a book.” Daisy said. 

“How is his health? What was he doing in his room?” Mina asked. 

Daisy felt a knot in her stomach. As she suspected, Mina was using her to keep an eye on Frances. She said, “He was reading in his room when I went in. As for his health, I can’t really say, but he looked very weak. His lips were pale.” 

Daisy had heard about the complex grudges of the Boswell family. The power struggles between wealthy families were always scary. It was rumored that Frances’ car accident was manipulated by Mina, but there was no evidence. 

Daisy could guess what Mina was worried about. 

Frances was a prominent figure in the business world. Naturally, Mina would worry about Frances gradually recovering and then planning to take over Boswell Enterprises. In her heart, Mina might even hope that Frances’ illness would worsen.
