After Michael’s Party…

As Darren walked Desi and Bri to their Uber to say goodbye, he also began to thank them for coming.

“Before y’all leave, I just wanna say thank you for coming out tonight. I know it got kinda crazy towards the end but, I definitely appreciate ya’ll for coming and staying behind to help me out.”, Darren said to Desi and Bri. Bri smiled at Darren as she opened the car door to enter.

“No problem, bro. See you at school.”, replied Bri, as she opened the car door to the Uber to enter it. Darren chunked the deuces to Bri and brought his attention back to Desi.

“And thank you, baby. I appreciate you the most.” Darren said as he smiled at Desi and caressed her cheek. Desi smiled back and leaned her head on his hand. “You’re welcome, baby.”

As Desi reached in to embrace Darren, she noticed Lady staring at the both of them, through a nearby window. Desi waved goodbye to Lady and Lady did the same but, Desi also could sense something different about Lady in that exact moment. She tried to listen to Lady’s thoughts but, because she was inside the house and not exactly near her, her thoughts were like a blur. Desi couldn’t hear anything.

When Desi pulled back from the hug with Darren, they shared a kiss. Then, before Darren could ask what was wrong, Desi warned him. “Be careful. I know Della’s dating Michael and she and Lady are spending the weekend with ya’ll or whatever but… Just be careful, baby.”

Darren turned around and looked back at Lady. Lady was holding a trash bag and walking around, picking up random trash to throw away. Darren turned back around to face Desi and could instantly see the worry on her face.

“Aw man, baby. Don’t worry about her. I know that’s your best friend and I wouldn’t come between y’all like that. Desi stared into Darren’s dark brown eyes and sensed relief. She felt that Darren wouldn’t betray or hurt her like most guys their age would. She trusted him. Desi smiled at him, sighed and said, “Ok.” Darren and Desi kissed each other once more and Darren opened up the car door for Desi to enter.

As the car pulled away from where Darren was standing and made its way down the driveway, Desi grabbed her Airpods out of her purse and placed them in her ears. She quickly began to fall asleep while also thinking to herself, I just really hope he behaves himself.
