Chapter 9: The Boss is Acting Strange Today
Isabella, somewhat reluctantly, made her way to the dining table, where Aunt Audrey graciously pulled out a chair for her to sit. Earl, lying at her feet, occasionally wagged his tail, brushing against her legs and tickling her.
The table was laden with dishes that were a feast for the senses. Having not eaten for two days, Isabella’s hunger had reached its peak.
“Eat,” Alexander said coldly, without any intention of eating himself, instead picking up a newspaper to read.
Isabella had no suspicion of Alexander poisoning the food; if he wanted her dead, he wouldn’t need to resort to
such roundabout methods. Despite her animosity towards Alexander, she

knew good food was blameless.
Without further ado, Isabella began to eat, starting with a piece of braised pork that she savored delightfully. It was undeniable that Aunt Audrey’s culinary skills could rival those of
chefs in five–star hotels.
Alexander’s stern gaze drifted towards Isabella, his lips curving into an involuntary smile. This woman didn’t care for dining etiquette at all, her casual manner was starkly different from what he was used to.
He was accustomed to the polished manners of women at high–society gatherings, where every gesture was impeccable but often felt forced and pretentious.
For once, he found pleasure in watching someone enjoy their food, which even stirred his own appetite.
Isabella, catching Alexander’s gaze, felt

a bit awkward and, on impulse, placed a piece of meat into the gold–rimmed bowl in front of him.
Even if she was unwilling, she thought it wise to curry favor to avoid being confined again.
Alexander’s brow twitched subtly, and, surprisingly, he ate the piece of meat Isabella offered.
Having eaten Aunt Audrey’s cooking for years and finding it ordinary, this was the first time he found it
exceptionally delicious.
The others watched in shock.
Alexander ate from someone else’s

germophobia, he just ate after Isabella, whose chopsticks were clearly
contaminated…
Aunt Audrey smiled knowingly; this was almost like an indirect kiss.

Neither Alexander nor Isabella thought much about it. After the ineal, with his
usual cold demeanor restored,
Alexander stood up.
“Sebastian, go buy some clothes.”
Sebastian was momentarily puzzled, looking down at his own neatly
tailored suit, wondering why his boss
was acting oddly today.
“Boss, I don’t need clothes…”
Alexander’s look was stern and dark.
“Not for you, for her.”
Isabella was startled, as Alexander’s finger pointed directly at her.
Sebastian nodded in understanding and withdrew. Alexander approached Isabella, his long fingers gently tapping
the back of her chair.
“Come upstairs with me.”

wondering if he had suddenly conceived some nefarious plan now that he was satiated. Truly, a complete
freak!
Her mind involuntarily replayed all the self–defense techniques she had learned. If Alexander dared to make a move on her, she was determined to ensure he’d regret it for the rest of his
life.
The two entered the study, one after
the other. The room’s bookcases were
crammed with various books and
documents, and several paintings by renowned artists from around the world adorned the walls.
Although the decor was understated, it reflected the refined taste of its owner.
Alexander walked over to the desk, pulled out a checkbook, grabbed a pen, and wrote a series of numbers on the top page before handing it to Isabella.
