Chapter 44-Henson

Rose rubbed Biggs’s stomach with a cotton ball. She hummed as she prepared the first dose of Thermadex. When she lifted the syringe and needle, Biggs paled. The needle was easily longer than one of my fingers. He crossed his arms under his head and closed his eyes.

“Blocking my view isn’t going to help.” Biggs kept his eyes closed.

I positioned myself next to Biggs and leaned over his upper body. His eyes opened slowly. They were full of so much fear. Looking back at Rose she nodded, I leaned down and kissed Biggs. He hissed as the needle sunk into his skin.

“I’m sorry, I know it hurts.” Rose’s words were soft and even I found comfort in them.

She moved quickly and applied pressure to the puncture mark. I could tell she healed Biggs when he relaxed beneath her touch.

“I’m going to go sleep in my room with Thatcher. Remember, no sex. We need your body to relax and sex will keep the hormones flowing.” She leaned over and kissed him.

She sat up again and looked at me. “Hen, he needs to sleep. I know you want to talk to him but please try and keep him calm.”

I reached out and pulled her over Biggs’s body. Capturing her lips I pressed my thanks into her. She moaned softly but broke the kiss.

“I promise I will keep him calm and help him ease to sleep.” I let her go.

Rose collected the supplies and put them on the nightstand. “I’ll see you two in the morning.”

Before she could leave. Biggs reached out grabbing her hand. “I love you.”

I couldn’t hide the surprise on my face. The fact he said it out loud shocked me, I didn’t believe he said it first. He wasn’t a say-it-first type of man.

More to my surprise, Rose’s face softened and she blushed. “I love you too.”

She looked at me, face soft and glowing. “I love you too Henny.”

My core tightened at the nickname. I closed my eyes, relishing in her words. “You cannot call me Henny, and expect me to behave.”

Her smile grew. “Once I’ve healed Biggs from his surgery, you can punish me all you want.”

We both groaned. Biggs covered his eyes.

“Get out woman, before I put you on your knees.” I stood and Rose hurried from the bedroom, giggling profusely.

I shook my head. “She’s trouble.”

“Yes, but it’s the perfect kind of trouble.” Biggs was quiet.

He was pale, and sweating. I could feel his discomfort, I’d been ignoring it for weeks now because I had hoped he’d tell me. He hadn’t, of course.

“You ok?” I sat back next to him but didn’t touch him.

Biggs moved his arms and reached for me. I clasped his hand rubbing the top with the other.

“No.” My stomach sunk at the look of despair on his face.

“Talk to me. I don’t know how to help if you won’t talk to me.” I squeezed his hand.

He licked his lips. “I was afraid to tell you because I didn’t want you to see me like this. Broken, weak, and terrified of what is happening to me. I have been so normal up to this point. Sure, angry but this are so many thoughts in my head that I want to scream. I used to be reserved, even in my rage.

“Then a bauble of exquisite craftsmanship tumbles into our horde. And it caused my carefully maintained facade to break. It wasn’t intentional but it happened. That succubus triggered something in me that I didn’t know I had. I have never had issues with this organ until she showed up. Why? Because my dragon biology thought she showed up to steal my mate. My human biology wanted to fuck her.”

Biggs pulled his hand from me and ran both down his face. His hand traveled down his body and stopped near his crotch. “I want this out Hen. It’s making me insane. It makes it hard to think. When I look at you I want to be able to think about things other than fucking you. I want to be able to hold you without needing you to fuck my brains out. I’m missing everything we were before this heat.”

I pulled his hand away from his stomach and pressed his fingers to my lips. “Then it comes out. I don’t want you in pain anymore. You are everything to me. You are not weak, or broken. You’ve endured so much in your life. Dragons don’t have it easy, you had it rougher than most. That made you strong. It helped you become unbreakable. This has all been a fucking curve ball.”

Readjusting, I slid next to him on the bed and turned him so we could spoon. I pulled him tightly against me and kissed the back of his neck. “I love you. I’m not going anywhere. It’s not changing how I feel about you. It just proves how much you mean to me. I would take you broken and weak but I have you strong and unbreakable.”

Biggs squeezed my arms and turned closer to my body. “We may be able to have a baby.”

I stopped breathing. A baby with him? That had never been an option. We’d talked about kids. I’d figured I would ask my sister to donate her eggs and we’d find a mermaid to be a surrogate. Best surrogates in the world. The instant Rose realized Biggs was her mate, that plan went out the window. Still, the only thing I knew for certain, Biggs and I would never have children together, they would always be someone else’s. Now, there was a chance.

“Really?” I didn’t move.

“Rose had a feeling you would ask that. I told her you wouldn’t but she was adamant. Even brought it up to Dr. Meid.”

He took a breath in before he continued. I could hear the tiredness in his voice. “Dr. Meid said if the ovaries are in fact viable like she believes, then yes it is possible. Rose then proceeded to set up the rest. She said that we should harvest some of the...genetic material and freeze it. Then when we were all ready to start having children, she’d carry our child for us.”

I choked on my sob. “Of course she did. She is everything we didn’t know we needed.”

“She is, she didn’t even hesitate. I’m not sure she thought it through, but she did it for us. Rose has barely been our mate for two months and promising something so precious. A chance for a family we never had.” His words were slurred and a soft snore leaked from his lips.

I kissed the back of his neck. “I’ll be here when you wake up. I promise.”
