Alex wouldn’t let go.

Despite all of Eddie’s efforts. The hitting, the kicking, the screaming. He would not let go. The teenager’s arms were wrapped under the boy’s arms, holding him tightly around the chest.

The badger lead them out of the tunnel and his feet scraped against the snow as he continued to fight.

“Let me go!” he shouted. “I betrayed you! I brought her to you! You should just let me go!”

Alex kept a grip on his arm, but let go of his chest. He forced him to turn around and face him. “You’re just a stupid kid,” he told the boy firmly. “And just because you’re stupid doesn’t mean that you deserve to die.”

“If I die, then you get your vengeance for my betrayal.”

Alex scoffed and stood up. “And Aria sacrifices herself for nothing? I don’t think so.”

Eddie fought less now. He knew that it would only be a matter of time before they all got caught. Especially now that Aria had been caught. He still had to be dragged, but he’d quit it with the kicking and screaming.

“This way,” the badger called. Eddie was slowing them down. His persistence to go back was likely what was really doing it.

Alex let out a breath. “Eddie, you’re gonna be really mad about this and I’m sorry.” S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FɪndNovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Before Eddie had time to react, he was pulled into the air and thrown over Alex’s shoulder like a sack of potatoes. He let out only a low growl and an angered expression manifested on his face.

“It’s okay, Eddie,” Octavia assured him as she walked behind her brother. “It’ll be okay.”

The angered expression didn’t fade. But Octavia was determined to make it better. The little mouse sat on her shoulder.

“It’s no use,” Peep told her. “The best that can be done for now is to escape the hyenas.”

She wouldn’t take no for an answer. “I’ll make Alex be easier on you, okay? I know that he’s stronger than he thinks. If he’s hurting you, you have to tell him because he doesn’t know.”

Eddie’s expression didn’t soften. He didn’t like that Alex was treating him like a baby. Like he didn’t know exactly what he was doing. But he did.

He knew exactly what he was doing. He was getting back to Seraphina. She was so close, all it would take was for him to escape and then she’d have them all.

He’d be her heir. And she would be with him. Under her guidance, he would be a good ruler. And possibly, a great warrior.

He had hopes. And plans. For his future with Seraphina. And he was sure that she had plans too.

He wondered if she was as excited about the prospect of his return as he was. She had said that they were bound to one another, that had to mean something.

“Are you alright, Eddie?” Octavia asked, noticing the frustrated expression on the boy’s face.

“I’ve been put over an oaf’s shoulders like a sack of flour. What do you think?” he snapped. Octavia sighed, this time she gave up and walked ahead of Alex. She knew it wasn’t him. There had to be something wrong.

But as he looked south, from where they came from. All that was in his heart was the aching absence of his queen.

Seraphina.
