The Darkness
Chapter XIV

Serafina stormed through one of the Darks many parties and up to Hali’s throne.

“Serafina, I don’t remember inviting you to this party,” Hali giggled sipping on whatever cocktail was in her cup.

“I invited myself, I’m not here to play your fucking games you pompous bitch.” She growled and dug her fingernails into her hands to stop from punching her in the face.

“I suggest you hold your tongue, young lady, you are speaking to the Dark Queen,” Lamia spat at Serafina.

“Am I?” She then yelled, “I, Queen Serafina of Hel eldest daughter of Lamia and Maekus, challenge Queen Hali of the Dark for her crown!”

Gasps filled the room and everything went silent until Maekus decided to laugh and say, “You can’t challenge her for the throne in the Dark. We aren’t barbaric.”

“As blood of the Dark Family I can challenge my sibling just as they can challenge me, per Dark Fae law.” Once more murmurs filled the room and she smirked as she saw the royal adviser look it up.

“She is correct, she is blood and law states that the crown must stay within the Dark Family. I’m afraid you cannot decline this challenge Dark Queen Hali.” She explained to her.

Serafina threw one of her extra daggers on the ground at Hali’s feet. When she didn’t move Serafina made her.

“Pick it up and fight me like a real Dark Fae.”

She glared at Serafina and stood up slowly, gripping the dagger tightly. Serafina gave her a sick smile and unsheathed the dagger that Lorenzo gave her.

Hali charged at Serafina and she stepped to the left so that Hali would hit the air. Serafina laughed at Hali’s pitiful attempt at an attack and that only further angered Hali. Hali swung once more and Serafina ducked, kicking Hali’s knee in, breaking her leg. Serafina couldn’t help smile as Hali fell to the floor on her knees. Hali used the angle to stab Serafina in her leg as if that would cause major damage to her.

Serafina looked at the dagger and yanked it out, throwing it to the side. She then grabbed Hali’s face and held it in place as she smashed her knee into Hali’s stomach. When she let go Hali fell back onto the floor and Serafina straddled her waist, flipping her over.

“Please Sera,” Tears streamed down her face as she begged Serafina not to kill her.

“This is for killing me, bitch.” Serafina took her knife and sliced Hali’s neck open. Blood shot out from her neck and sprayed Serafina in the face.

She watched as Hali slowly died with a smile on her face. This would be one death she wouldn’t blame herself for. She then wiped her blade on her sister’s shirt before standing up and facing the crowd that was now under her command.

She heard Lamia shriek and turned around to see her run to Hali’s side.

“What have you done you monster!” Maekus shouted holding his crying wife.

“Now you know what it’s like to lose a child,” She snarled at the people she once called her parents. She turned to the guard that stood next to the portal, “Lock them up. Their execution will take place in a week’ time.”

“What? You can’t kill us!” Maekus screeched as two guards restrained them.

“Oh, but I can. I’m the Dark Queen now.” She laughed at them, “Get them out of my sight.”

She pulled the royal adviser to her and ordered him, “Clear everyone out of here. I have some urgent business to attend to.”

She then stepped through the portal and walked into the Light Castle.

“Do I want to know,” Lorenzo asked, leaning against the railing looking down upon her.

“I dealt with Hali,” She told him simply.

“Dealt with as in...” He trailed off and she nodded.

“The Dark Queen Hali is no longer and I now sit on the throne.” She explained, “And Lamia and Maekus are set up for execution.”

“Congratulations, dear sister.”

“Don’t congratulate me for something like this. I trust the Light are now under control.” She walked up the stairs and met him in the middle. He nodded and she opened her palm and a paper surrounded with fire. Lorenzo stepped back in shock, wondering how she was able to do that when they hadn’t yet trained her to it.

She held the paper out and explained what it was, “It’s a treaty. If you sign this the Dark, Light and Hel will officially be allies and, if you wish, you can merge the Light and Dark together.”

He looked at the treaty and back at her, “You’re giving me the Dark? Why?” S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Because I never wanted to sit on that throne. I killed Hali because she is the reason my brother is lying in a hospital not knowing if he will live or die.” Tears at the thought of losing someone she cared about well up in her eyes.

Serafina believed that if Kai died it would be on her hands because if she had just put Hali in her place when she had the chance Kai would have never been in the situation he was in that moment.

“Think it over. I’m going to make sure Kai is okay,” She told him and left him at that. When she entered her castle, she was met with chaos. It seemed as though the Dark declared war and directly attack her castle, believing that she was there. Hali sent them to kill her and failed, injuring Kai instead.

Light and Dark bodies were strewn across the entrance of the castle. She stepped over one, internally dreading the burning of the bodies. She instantly walked over to the medical ward where she knew that Kai was residing.

When she entered all the rooms were filled with her injured soldiers and servants as well as some sedated light and dark soldiers.

“Where is the prince?” She asked one of the nurses that passed by her when she couldn’t find Kai in the crowd.

“He demanded to be seen in his room so that we could use the Royal Suite for the rest of the injured.” She explained to Serafina.

Serafina should have known that Kai would do something like that. She thanked the nurse and made her way to her brother’s room.

When she entered, she saw Kai on his bed hooked up to many machines that she knew without them he would have died earlier. She grabbed a chair and pulled it up to the bed.

She ended up falling asleep in the chair and woke up when the doctor came in to check up on him.

“What happened to him?”

“He was stabbed with an anaxian covered sword during the battle.” The doctor explained to her as she added more sedatives to his IV. Anaxian was poison to his kind- fire fae- and it would cause immense pain to the receiver.

“I’ve kept him sedated so he won’t feel any pain but there isn’t a cure for anaxian.”

“I see,” Serafina whispered to herself.

Her brother was going to die and she wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.
