The Dragon and the Princess
Chapter 3: The Dragon and The Daemon

“Because the only people for me are the mad ones.”

After some time, the dragon spied a creature on another mountain and flew down to investigate. It was a daemon. The dragon did not like daemons and so he spoke the magic words to banish him (the magic words that you must use when talking to a creature of the dark or they come inside of you) and this is what they said to each other:

“Evil death bringer get ye out,

For your kind are not welcomed ere round about!”

“O puny dragon be thou still,

I’ll be the one who’ll tell and will,

Determine thine future fate,

For not death I bring but a tale of late,

A yarn of tall and long compose,

But longer still its twists and woes.”

“Pray tell, if this be any trickery,

I will slay you here and now,” said our hero, heroically.

“Golden dragon I trick you not,

But note not me be dead for you I’ll smote!”

“Nevertheless do begin daemon,

Be quick; for you did say the tale was long.”

“Indeed it is my bodily friend,

But listen well until the end.

When cast I was into this here form,

I realized well that this was not the norm,

I realized that I had been once before,

A living thing like you, with a soul and more,

I saw a past all clouded and unclear,

I thought about and felt that this was near.

Later a tale it did unfold,

I had been a wanderer of all the world,

Journeys far long and short,

My life of strife and woe was wrought,

I went about throughout all lands,

I worked and toiled and used my hands,

I spoke and taught and showed my head,

And very rarely I in own bed.

I wronged and stole and seldom was,

A good and gentle man because,

I hated all and all reversed.

Throughout all life all I rehearsed,

Was the wrong and trouble that I thought been shown,

But forever I had never known,

That love and care was all that mattered.

To me my heart and soul was battered,

And torn and rent and cast aside.

All I wanted was to recover my pride,

So upon the power search I begun.

I never used any of my skills to lighten,

The loads of others only my own,

For none existed I was alone,

Or at least I thought though I was wrong,

And now you see me in this here form.”

“But tell me creature, something new,

tell me of what did you do,

Why and what caused this to you.”

“Now see I went around to cure my heart,

I went and told people craft,

I should never ever have ever done.

I lied and cheated and the web I spun,

Was large and deadly and hurted more,

The people who’s lives whom I deplored.

Power was my ultimate game,

And with it came the deadly aim,

To be more than the one above,

The one who showed all and every love,

The one I thought had put me here,

The God who I blamed for my life not dear.

You see all evil comes from one internal need,

To be special and the only one indeed.

And this leads on to games of power,

But this does not go high only lower,

But not this is seen for sight is gone,

And all you become is a daemon.

We all are truly verily affected,

But some take heed and some reject it,

Others still will feel its glow,

And more they seek forever mo.

Some will commit murder and others’ death,

Some will simply let their life affecteth

Nevertheless I was one of the worst offenders,

And God He saw and made asunder,

My soul from my bodily state,

And now exist as I do of late.”

“But what did our glorious lord,

Do and say upon your world,

And life affected and afflicted so,

For all eternity and time to go?”

“He came upon me and struck me down,

He said that he had seen my throne,

From way up on high,

And now it well and truly was nigh,

For him to show me my inner lie.

He told me truly and arrow straight,

That I would infinitely not be of late,

For I would now not die,

And a daemon he would now make I.

But all power and causation he would remove,

Save my ability to speak and move,

And also to protect myself,

So that I could tell all everyone else,

My story and to educate,

But he said that I must obligate,

Or he would pass onto me the worst of fates,

To not exist whatever all.

To never have been and be no more.

But be clear that I do not mean death,

For this is never the endeth,

For lives and journeys exist beyond,

The still and sultry cold quiet pond,

That we all call the other side.

No, removal from the universal wide expanse,

was my punishment,

Should I abide not his judgement.”

“But what is the purpose of this,

Why are you telling me, what did I miss?”

“Mortal dragon now hear me now,

Danger and pain and the end throughout,

Approacheth fast and nearer still,

And all because we have this ill,

This misunderstanding that affected my life,

This cause of most of our world’s strife.

You as a king among men,

Must go about and tell again,

Like all the other kings of the universe,

This long and taleful verse.

So go about and understand,

That all of us and every man,

Want to be powerful and overgrown,

But we must at once and true,

Realize that this is a no through,

And pointless end,

It is a task with a high stipend,

Of pain and hurt and truer more,

Is the aim of loving over.

All and every and each one,

Learn to be humble and you will have won,

Your future lives of join with God above,

For only then can we then love,

Only then can we become,

One and all with the Godhead, one and all where we came from,

For no one who wishes to be,

His very own infinicity,

Can join with the deity up on high,

To reach that end which should be nigh,

To reach that end which is the way.

Remember heed you not and not just you he will slay,

But all that ever was you removed from the universe,

So go about now and converse,

This tale I told which tricked you not,

No other truth will your life stop,

And find ‘Those Who Submit,’ and worship with them,

Go now and make it quick.” quoth the Daemon, and then he disappeared.

The dragon sat and pondered this strange conversation. He sat there, for how long, he did not know, but eventually he got up, determined to find ‘Those Who Submit.’ He flew off into the now night and continued to think. He thought about some things the Daemon had said. Much of what he had told him he knew already, although he realised now that he had forgotten this stuff from his adventures with the wizard. He had been acting as a power seeker, and he wondered whether this was right or whether, it was wrong. The dark creature called him mortal. Why? A flicker of remembrance rose up in the dragon and then went out almost as fast. He continued to soar. As he flew past the full moon, under the many stars of the night sky, beneath the belt of the galaxy, the dragon thought deeply. He did this often, in fact, much of his life was spent in thought. The wizard had said he thought too much about things, but the dragon liked this about himself.

He liked that he thought deeply, and whilst he could work his mind into a whirlwind of nothingness sometimes, he also could see very deeply because of it; he could see almost everything sometimes, so much that he felt a feeling of ecstasy at the wonder of it all. A sense of complete amazement and joy at how perfect and beautiful everything was. These moments were rare and they may have been fleeting, but they were powerful and touched him deep inside; deeper than the bottom of the greatest ocean. He felt like a drop of nectar in a sea of honey when he thought like this. He understood that one was all. It gave him much capacity to do amazing things, and make friends and know things and it gave him a great power for love. Indeed, the golden dragon was just a being of love, really. Some thought this was silly and mocked him for it, but the dragon knew that love was the most important thing. He felt it far, far, inside him. In fact, he felt it so much, it hurt sometimes. He wondered now, though, whether he was a bit confused about this love. He wondered whether he was leaving himself behind for the love of others.
