James sat inside the restaurant, waiting for Sara to show up. He didn’t even know why he had waited this long, but he had. It had been one year since Sara had killed Aevill, and since he and Sara had started dating. They had both graduated high school with flying colors, despite their being absent for lots of it.

As a whole, saving the world from an evil magician was a job that went widely unnoticed. In the magical community, however, he and Sara were celebrities. Sara was the person that had killed Aevill, and he was the person who had saved her from dying by doing the dying part himself.

As soon as they had graduated high school, James had pursued his dream and became a well known composer for various movies, pop songs, and any kind of music. It was amazing how many magicians were in the music business, and wanted to help him get started. With the help of these magicians, James was able to get his start, and introduce the world to a new kind of music. His style was a unique blend of every type of music, and everyone loved it.

Sara had gone into the show business, baffling audiences with her magic tricks. There had been several magicians that had helped her get her start as well. She was a true queen of the stage, captivating people with her unique style. She could do almost anything, from small spells, to changing into an emerald green dragon. No one knew how she did it, no one who was a normal human, at least.

Sara and James traveled the world, often having jobs near each other, which gave them more time to spend together. On their last date, James had asked if he could borrow the Lightstone, and Sara had given him it without a second thought. James was glad that she had. Otherwise, she might have suspected something. James reached into his pocket and drew out the Stone. “Are you ready?” he asked it. The Stone glowed in response. “Good,” he said. James understood the Stone better than Sara, though she had an easier time using it. A year ago, when they were leaving the tree to go fight Aevill’s hoards, the Stone had told James that it was behind their first, and second kiss. Later, it caused the third as well, even though James would have done it anyway. The Stone had wanted James and Sara to be together since the beginning. James figured that, since the Stone had such big plans for him and Sara, it might as well help him tonight.

He looked across the room, and saw Sara, looking as beautiful as ever. “Hey,” she said. “Sorry I’m late. There was a crowd of people trying to find out how I do those tricks.”

“That must get exhausting,” James said.

“I don’t mind. I’m doing what I love for a living – magic,” Sara said.

“So,” James said. “What do you plan on doing after this trip in New York?”

“Probably move back to Mageton,” Sara said. “I feel like I need a vacation, especially since, it’s getting close to that time, you know, from a year ago.”

“Oh,” James said. “How often do you think about it?”

“Not very, but sometimes...enough. How about you?”

James shook his head. “I think I’ve blocked out almost dying. Oh!” He smacked his forehead as if he were just remembering something. “Here’s the Stone back.” He reached into his pocket and drew out the Stone.

“Were you able to do whatever you needed to with it?” Sara asked as she reached for the Stone.

“We’ll see,” James said.

When the Stone came into contact with Sara, it glowed so brightly that even people at other tables had to look away. James wasn’t sure what they saw, and didn’t really want to know. The glow died down soon enough, and instead of one Stone, there were two rings, one with an emerald, another with an orange stone. The emerald one was in the style of a lady’s wedding ring, with a gold band and diamond cut stone in the center. The orange ring was simpler, with a plain silver band and orange gem. James wasn’t great with stones, but he would have guessed it to be a topaz of some sort. “They’re still the Lightstone, only now split into two,” James said. He did what everyone did in the movies. He got down on one knee. “Sara, will you marry me?” he asked.

James watched the emotions flash across Sara’s face. First shock, then confusion, then delight. “I don’t know what to say,” Sara said.

“Say yes,” James prompted.

Sara smiled, the very picture of happiness. “Okay,” she said. “Yes!”

Something glowed behind her, and James saw Mr. Day. At first, he felt nervous, and mentally went over what he had done, wondering if he had messed up somehow. He was extremely relieved when the ghost simply smiled and nodded approvingly.

Sara looked at James, confused. “What are you looking at?” she asked, turning. She could not have been more surprised when she saw a person there, glowing with a white light, though it looked slightly green to Sara because of her eyes.

This was no ordinary person, though. This was a person she had spent years with growing up. This was a person she had seen die at Drusk’s hand, controlled by Aevill. He was her father.

For years now, Sara had wondered what she would say to her dad if she could have just one more minute with him. Now that time had come, and yet she couldn’t think of anything to say. She simply stared at him, and he her.

After a while, Mr. Day spoke. “I’m so proud of you, Sara. I know you’ll be a great woman. You already are. Your mother and I will always love you, even if we can’t be with you right now.” His glow flickered, then went out. “I need to leave now.” he said.

As the ghost disappeared, Sara heard him say, “Good luck! You and James have a great future together!” After that, the ghost was gone.

Sara turned back to look at James. “Was he the ghost that was following you around when we were searching for the Stone?” she asked.

James nodded. “He didn’t want me to tell you, to add to your burdens.”

Sara nodded. “You did the right thing.” She paused. “Thank you,” she said, “for...everything.”

James leaned over and kissed her, the rings that had been the Lightstone not even glowing. “Your welcome,” he said. He looked up suddenly. “I know you can bring the dragons into this world, but do we have to invite them to the wedding?”
