An invasion

“I hate to do this.” I mumbled angrily and jumped over a tree stump.

“I hate this too, but if we don’t do it that lunatic will kick us out from the team and academy.” Sparky said kicking a stone.

I groaned and rubbed my face. “I know. But I still hate it.”

A week passed since last time when that lunatic yelled and accused us for disobeying his orders and since then, he calls us in his office every day, to make sure that we are ready for any possible situation and to our bad luck, he had an amazing idea. We should patrol every night and day, around the academy to prevent a surprise attack. The cherry from the bottom of the cake is that the novices have more patrolling hours than the more experienced ones. This fucking means that me, Sparky, Lincoln and Sky, have more patrolling hours than the rest of them. Even Sirius has less hours than us! Today and tomorrow is my shift. Today with Sparky and tomorrow with Black. What a pleasure.

“What time is it? I want to go home and sleep.” Sparky wined and seat on a fall tree trunk.

I seat next to her and looked at my phone. “It’s just 2 and a half. We have to stay here until 6 when Flame and Lincoln will take their shift.”

She groaned and throw her hands in the air. “Why we have to do this?? It’s so boring and no one comes here! Not even an animal. There’s no sight of anything, dark or bird or animal or really anything!”

I put my hands in my hair. “I fucking know that Sparky. Thank you for remembering me.”

“That’s why I’m here.” she said and fucking winked at me.

“I’ll go and patrol around the dorms and you patrol around the section B of the school. We are already bored, so let’s do something useful at last.” I got up from my seat and brushed away the dust from my butt.

She groaned again but stood up too. “Fine. But if I will find you sleeping on the dorm’s stairs I’ll kick your ass.”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Just shut up and go. If you see or hear something telepath me.” I said and turned around to leave.

“Yes, sir!”

I showed her my middle finger and continued my midnight walk. Well, 2 and a half walk but you get it. After walking in circle around the dorms for I think half an hour, I got bored and I started to run on a larger area. I ran past trees and all kind of bushes but I stopped when I started to hear voices. The sound was coming from my right. I slowly walked in that direction and I bent down, hiding behind a bush.

This feels like déjà vu and I don’t like it.

I parted the bush a little with my hands so I could see. There were a girl with long black hair and a boy with black hair too. I couldn’t see the boy’s face because he had his back facing me. The girl had high cheekbones, a little crocked nose and brown eyes.

“Come on brother! Don’t tell me that they corrupted you.” the girl said arrogant.

“Shut the fuck up Mel. They didn’t. I have my own mission and no one can stop me from accomplishing it.”

Hey! This voice sounds familiar.

The girl which name I think is Mel, scoffed. “Really? Not even that little elementar girl you are always talking about?”

The boy clenched his fists by his side. “Of course not. She isn’t someone important. I can get rid of her whenever I want.”

I heard this voice somewhere else, but where?

Mel started to laugh. “Yeah, sure. Let me tell you something dear brother. You can’t kill her because you care about her. It’s written on all your face. Anyway, if your rational mind comes back, my offer is still up.”

“No. I don’t care about a stupid elementar girl and I will never accept your offer. I told you that I have my own mission and I won’t stop until it’s done.”

Come on stupid brain! Do something useful and tell me who is the owner of this voice.

She shrugged. “Fine bro. You did it with your hand, so don’t come back at me crying.”

“Keep calm. I won’t. You are the last person in the world that I would like to tell what bugs me or what makes me cry.”

I think it’s someone from the academy.

“Auch. That really hurt bro. I’m kidding. I don’t care if you don’t like me. I tried to be a good sister and I tried to open your eyes but it looks like you are blind.” she said so dramatically that I wanted to applause her.

“You? A good sister? That was a hilarious joke. Your humor really improved since the last time we meet.”

Damn. This voice is too familiar. And that sarcasm.

“Whatever bro. You can’t say that I didn’t tried to warn you. Now, I have to go and plan an invasion. So, if you excuse me.” the girl bowed and disappeared.

“Stupid bitch.” the boy said and turned around to walk away.

When I saw his face, I was about to faint because I know this person too damn well and I can’t believe it.This isn’t possible. Maybe I’m too tired and I’m hallucinating. Yeah, that’s it. I’m hallucinating because of the lack of sleep.

I was trying to convince myself but it wasn’t working. But why would Black talk with a dark girl that said she is his sister. How is that possible? He isn’t dark and she is.

Or maybe he isn’t an elementar how we thought.

I wanted so bad to deny that thought, but I know that it must be true. I was biting my lips like crazy and I was still staring at the place where Black was not even 5 minutes ago.

What were they talking about? What is his mission? What Mel meant with her offered? What girl was she talking about? That could be the only weakness Black has? She said something about planning an invasion. What invasion? Where?

My eyes widen and I facepalmed myself when I realized what she meant with it. She is a part of the dark army and they are going to invade us! I started to run at high speed searching for Sparky.

‘Sparky!! I found something! Well, I heard something! The darks are planning an invasion against us! We have to announce the boys and the principal!’

I stopped abruptly. Wait. The way Mel said I tried to warn you and when Black said no, she said that she has to plan the invasion. This means that he had a choice between something or having them invading us. This means he fucking knows about the invasion and when it can be.

‘Oh my God! We really have to tell them! Let’s go then! I’ll meet with you at the entrance of the dorms.’

‘Okay.’

I started to run in the direction of the dorms. I couldn’t help the little pang that I was feeling in my heart.

Could he really betray us? Would he do that? Was he really a spy that was trying to kill us? Why would he do that?

I stopped in front of the dorms and seat on the stairs. I put my head in my hands and I can feel a migraine coming. There are too many questions and variables and I don’t like it. I like to know what’s going on, when is going on and why is going on. I used to know all of this but after that damn moment in the forest, I don’t have any clue about what’s going on in my life or this world.

“Hey. Are you okay, Shads?”

I looked up at a worried Sparky. “Yeah. Just a little shocked and very tired. Let’s go and tell them.”

We jogged inside the apartment and Sparky yelled “CODE RED! CODE RED! I REPEAT IT’S A CODE RED AND I’M NOT JOKING!“.

Everyone was down in less than 1 minute. They were looking like crap and half asleep, but they were down.

“What’s going on?” Flame mumbled with his head on Hazel’s shoulder.

Sparky looked at me, motioning for me to tell them.

I nodded my head at her.

“When me and Sparky were patrolling in the woods, I heard two darks talking and they said that they have to prepare an invasion and it’s obvious against who, that invasion will be.” I said looking at each of them except Black. I could feel his gaze on me, but I couldn’t look at him right now.

“We have to tell the principal.” Flame said, now full awake.

River nodded his head. “Yes, and we have to do it at the first hour of the morning. Shadow you will go and tell the principal what you told us, at 6 when we will change the shift.”

I groaned and seat on the floor. “Why me? I’m already tired as fuck and I don’t want to talk with that lunatic.”

“I don’t care and we don’t have time for this kind of discussions Shadow. You will go and report everything. And that’s final.” River said with a tone that left no room for arguments.

I laid down on the floor. “So I have to go back and patrol until 6?”

“It’s already 5 so you have only an hour. And yes, you have to. Now go.”

We walked around for the rest of the hour and when the clocked showed 6 sharp I ran to the principal’s office while Sparky left back home to switch the shift with the idiots.

I stopped and knocked at his door. The door was opened by Raven himself.

“Hello, Shadow. With what can I help you at the first hour of the morning?” that crazy grin was glued on his face and I wanted to punch him so bad.

“I have some information about......our situation.” I said with a you-know-what-I’m-talking-about look.

“Come in.” he said with a serious face and opened the door more for me to enter.

I seat on my usual seat, in front of him while he seats on his leather seat.

“I’m all ears.”

“While I was patrolling around the dorms, I heard two darks talking about how they need to plan an invasion and I’m more then sure that, that invasion will be against us.” I said omitting the part when Black was one of the darks. I don’t even know why I’m protecting him.

Raven nods his head and leans more in his seat. “I understand. You did very well letting them talk and spying them, instead of killing them. Well done Shadow. For this moment, we will add one more person at the patrol and I’ll announce all the teams to be ready at any hour of the day. Until new orders, keep training and be vigilant.”

I nodded my head in understanding. “If this is all, I would like to go and sleep because I’m tired as fuck and tonight I have to patrol again.”

“Very well. Who I am to get between a girl and her beauty sleep. You can go and sleep.”

The urge to punch his was bigger than ever but I just dig my nails in the palms and walked out of the office.

Who the fuck he thinks he is to tell me that? I know that I’m not looking like a freaking model, but I’m not looking like a potato neither! He just said in my face that I fucking need a beauty sleep so he suggested that I look like crap. That little piece of shit. I swear, one day I’m going to punch him right in his damn face and I’m going to erase that maniacal grin from his face.

With my little ramble, I didn’t realized that I was staring at the apartment’s door. I walked cursing under my breath right in my room without any other stops. Sparky was already sound asleep on her bed. She didn’t bother to change her clothes and her hair was still in a high ponytail.

I chuckled at her awkward sleeping position and I climbed in my bed. I didn’t bother to change my clothes or wrap the blanket around me. I just seat on my tummy and when my head touched the pillow, it was like someone had a remote for me and put me in sleeping mode because I have never in my entire life fell asleep so fast.
