Chapter Twenty-Eight – Queen

I lose myself in Alex’s arms, time stops, as I savour the feeling of being held by him. I had thought that I would never see him again, that I would be taken to the Black Moon Pack and forcibly mated to that monster Lucius. But he had arrived just in time to prevent that from happening. I never wanted to be apart from him again.

I don’t know how long we stayed like that, holding each other, oblivious to everyone and everything around us. But eventually Alex reluctantly withdrew from my arms.

I look around and for the first time I take in the scene of carnage and chaos before me. The bodies of dead and seriously injured wolves littered the ground. Most of the dead are the traitors who followed Carl but, I notice a few of the bodies belong to warriors I had got to know when I was cleaning the gym. I felt distraught by the loss of these good people, and how terrible it had been for them to be killed by their own pack mates.

I observe the rest of our pack watching Alex and me. I can see surprise on some of their faces at the way he is holding me. There will be no more hiding that we are mates now. They know what we are to each other. For better or worse the whole pack will soon know that I am their Luna, a lowly Omega servant.

I hear Alex speaking to Euan and another wolf I don’t recognise.

“Have we managed to dispose of all the traitors? Has anyone escaped?” He asks.

“Only two escaped, your brother and one of the guards. I will send out a patrol to track them down” Euan tells him.

“Good” Alex says. “How many wolves have we lost?”

“Seven from our pack” Euan tells him.

The stranger responds saying “The royal pack have lost three wolves. All in all a successful day.”

He must be Joseph the Alpha of the royal pack. He turns to me.

“And this must be Katherina, my future queen” he says bowing to me.

I blush, I don’t know how to respond to this. I don’t feel like a queen, or royal, I still feel like the Omega wolf that I was brought up to be.

“Hello” I manage to say. It feels so inadequate, but I don’t know what else to say.

He smiles at me warmly and tells me “I have been looking for you, for a very long time. I never gave up hope that you survived. And now here you are in front of me. I swear to obey and protect you as my rightful queen. The Royal pack is yours, my Alpha Queen.”

I am in amazed at his response. “Aren’t you the Alpha of the Royal Pack?” I ask “I couldn’t take over from you.”

“No the Royal Pack does not have an alpha in the way that other pack’s do. Our rulers are the king or queen. As the commander of the pack, I am responsible for its day to day running but you are its ruler, its alpha, and I am here to obey you. I have never adopted the role of alpha, I always believed that someday we would find you and restore you to your rightful place as our queen.”

“You are the Alpha Queen of all werewolves, and the Luna of the Lunar Eclipse Pack” Alex proclaims proudly so that all the warriors can here. “I will call a pack meeting, to explain to everyone what has happened to our pack today and announce that you are their Luna.”

I know we have to discuss what has happened and plan our next steps, but my first priority is to check that Emma is OK. This whole situation will have traumatised her.

“I have to find Emma,” I tell Alex, “I need to make sure that she is OK. She must be in a terrible state, worrying about what has happened to me. First, she lost our parents in the rogue attack and now she has had to watch me be abducted by violent warriors. I have to see her and show her I am OK, that I am still here to look after her.”

“When we realised you had been abducted, we brought her to the pack house and gave her to Mrs Wilson who is looking after her. I thought she was the best person for her to be with. She knows Emma and she is a kind person; she will have tried to comfort her until you return” Alex tells me.

“I am so touched by his thoughtfulness. In the middle of this terrible battle, when the pack was in danger, he still tried to help Emma.

We make our way to the packhouse as quickly as we can. I am not sure where they will be, but I start my search in the kitchen guessing that that will be where Mrs Wilson has taken Emma. When I enter the room, I see Emma sitting on the counter, with Mrs Wilson holding her in her arms, comforting her, she looks blankly ahead as if unaware of her surroundings. There is a big bowl of chocolate ice cream in front of her which is beginning to melt, she hasn’t touched it. My heart breaks just watching her.

“Emma” I say softly.

She turns round and sees me. She leaps off the counter and runs towards me. I hold her tightly in my arms willing her to feel safe.

“It is all over Emmy” I tell her. “We are all safe, and Alex got rid of all the bad guys. There is no reason to feel scared anymore they are all gone, no one will hurt you.”

She looks deeply into my eyes, and gives me a small smile, I know that she wants to believe me but she can’t bring herself to, not yet.

“I have to go and help Alex with the pack. In the meantime, you need to stay with Mrs Wilson” I tell her. “You have to be a brave big girl again and help Mrs Wilson. She was mummy and daddy’s friend and loves you very much.”

I try to gently untangle myself from her arms, but she clings to me desperately. “Don’t leave me” she whispers.

“I am so sorry, but I have to go. I won’t go very far, and I will be back soon. Mrs Wilson will take good care of you in the meantime” I tell her.
